Check out today’s Irish Examiner (link in bio) for a superb article by Sarah Horgan highlighting Ireland’s first dialysis service for pets and the importance of pet blood donation 🩸

Canine and feline blood donors are vitally important to help save critically-ill pets, especially those in need of dialysis 💉
A big thank you to Faye, pictured with her unit of blood, for her life-saving donation 🙏

Thinking about donation? We accept blood donations in both Meath and Cork hospitals 🏥
Contact us at [email protected] to learn more about our blood donor programme 🙌

What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than mending a puppy’s broken heart ❤️‍🩹

Ollie was diagnosed with patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) shortly after being rescued.
PDA is a condition that occurs when a large blood vessel in the heart fails to close at birth, allowing blood to overload the heart.
Left untreated, PDA results in almost certain death within a year due to heart failure 💔😔

Ollie showered his surgeon Brónach with kisses today after he learned that his open chest surgery was a massive success and that he can now expect to live a happy, normal life 🥰🙌

Poor Pippa got a lot more than she bargained for when she chewed a seemingly innocuous household product 😲

When swallowed, Gorilla Glue rapidly expands by 3-4 times, filling the stomach and hardening into a giant foam-like glue ball or ‘cyano-bezoar’ 🪨

Fortunately for Pippa, while Gorilla Glue is strong enough for the toughest jobs on planet Earth, it is otherwise nontoxic🙏

After emergency surgery to remove the giant glue ball Pippa made a rapid recovery and thoroughly enjoyed her first postop meal 🙏

Check out this week’s Farmers Journal for our top tips to keep your pets safe during the festivities 🎄

- Make sure your pet doesn’t ingest grapes, dried fruits, chocolate, sweets or alcohol 🍇
- Dog and cat proof your tree as best you can, and unplug Christmas lights when not in use
- Beware of poisonous plants such as poinsettia, mistletoe, holly and ivy
- Avoid feeding bones or foods high in fat like turkey skin or drippings as it could result in a hospital stay

If your pet does get into something they shouldn’t have, contact a vet right away for advice as early intervention is often key to successful treatment

While we hope you don’t need us, our emergency service is available 24/7 all throughout the Christmas period 🚨

What better way to start Pet Cancer Awareness Month than to celebrate Taz’s remarkable recovery 👏

Taz has a new lease of life since his recent major cancer surgery at Veterinary Specialists Cork 🙌

Taz had a tumour of his adrenal gland that had invaded and blocked the largest vein in his body, releasing hormones and making him feel unwell

Removing a tumour of this size and in this location is high-risk, requiring the utmost care and concentration from our whole team 🏥

We are delighted to report that Taz’s surgery was successful - his mum reports that at 13 years young he has a new zest for life and she is thrilled to have her old Taz back ✨🐾

Thank you to Taz’s family for trusting us with his care - here’s to many adventures to come!
