Check out the April edition of Veterinary Journal Ireland where Dr. Roman Soto reviews the treatment of tarsal shearing injuries 🙌

Tarsal shearing injuries can unfortunately occur after a road traffic accident, when the ankle becomes trapped between the tyre and the road
While these injuries usually have extensive tissue loss and can appear catastrophic at first glance, thankfully good limb function can be achieved in many cases in the long-term 🙏

Pippen has been the smiliest boy since recovering from major chest and abdominal surgery with Specialist Surgeon Dr. Devereux and Dr. Mc Clean 😍

Pippen underwent a marathon 3-hour surgery to repair a diaphragmatic hernia and remove a twisted lung identified on CT scan 🫁

Pippen has the most incredible personality and we are so happy he has made a full recovery 🙌

It was a full house for an outstanding lecture by feline medicine specialist from ISFM, Dr. Sam Taylor, this evening 🙌

One of the amazing parts of a being a Veterinary Specialist is the opportunity to teach and spread knowledge on a global stage 🌎

Christmas came early for our cardiologist Jennie as she unboxed her brand spanking new Holter monitors 🙌

What is Holter monitoring?
Holter monitoring is a noninvasive method of assessing heart rhythm and rate over 24 hours or longer. Patients are fitted with a vest to wear at home containing a device that records a continuous ECG while they go about their normal activities

Why might our cardiology team recommend a Holter monitor?
- When a heart rhythm abnormality or arrhythmia is suspected
- In patients with signs of weakness or collapse
- To monitor the effect of medications on heart rate and rhythm
- To monitor an implanted pacemaker

Getting a cardiology opinion or consultation couldn’t be easier - simply email [email protected] or call our reception on 046 9557551

Joker has beaten not one but two cancers👏👏

Joker first travelled from Cork in July to see Dr. Lobetti with our Internal Medicine team for extreme weight loss and diarrhoea, and was diagnosed on CT scan with a large obstructive intestinal tumor and an invasive adrenal mass

With a diagnosis of not one but two separate malignant cancers, Joker’s family faced a difficult decision. Joker underwent abdominal surgery with our Specialist surgeons to remove a large section of cancerous bowel, along with his adrenal gland tumour. He made a rapid recovery from surgery and has been following up with chemotherapy for the past few months 💊

We were delighted to see him up from Cork on Tuesday and back to his best 🙌
He has re-gained 11 kg(!) and is back to running with his Dad. The best news is that Joker is in remission, with his scans showing no signs of cancer returning🙏

Thank you to Joker’s family for entrusting our teams with his care during a very worrying time 🙏

A slipped disc resulting in acute paralysis is a common emergency in people and pets

At Veterinary Specialists Ireland, we believe that pets should have the same access to emergent specialty healthcare as we do 🏥

Did you you know that we are the first and only pet hospital in Ireland where pets can get an emergency high field MRI scan and spinal surgery any time they need it?

Our teams work tirelessly to ensure Ireland’s pets stay mobile 🙌

08/11/2023

Spotted!
Our nurse Nadine knew just what to do to get Bobby to eat his first meal by himself in over a week 🙌🥰

Bobby recently needed intensive supportive care as he recuperated from emergency gallbladder surgery, including making sure he received the nutrition he needed to heal via feeding tube while he wasn’t well enough to eat himself
Our team didn’t just feed his body but made sure to feed his soul with love and encouragement, and there was a big cheer when it was announced he was finally well enough to go home 🥳
Having a beloved family member in intensive care is a very stressful experience - rest assured we make sure to take care of their every physical and emotional need 🙏

Let’s talk minimally invasive surgery 😷
Did you know that just like in people, many procedures can be performed keyhole in pets?
At Veterinary Specialists Ireland we can perform single incision laparoscopic surgery, which means abdominal surgery can be performed with a camera using one small port for specific procedures

Smaller incisions, less pain and quicker return to activity- what’s not to like 🙌
