It's amazing when you go a little off the normal path when going for a walk. I saw this cross just off the path while walking at with my dog. The cross was placed by a local farmer in thanksgiving for the preservation of his dairy herd from a terrible plague in 1867.

Out walking the piers at Dun Laoghaire when I saw the heading out on a training exercise. What an amazing group of volunteers they are, to do what they do and risk so much. A few years ago my wife and I got swept up in a family day where they showed people around the lifeboat. It was fascinating! But it was a very small boat on a very big sea.
All I can say to those heroes is Safe Saling.

Out for a walk with my wife and dog today at Wicklow we came across the Lesser Spotted Life Ring. It is a shy creature and likes to hide in the overgrowth. We were very fortunate and we tiptoed past so as not to disturb it.
