I live in a village called Easky Sligo in the west of Ireland with my partner Samuel, baby Ben and two rescues Mikey the greyhound and Leo the whippet. Although I also work in arts education this year since Ben arrived I have been just focused on making ce

ramics. Every few weeks the dining room in our small cottage gets transformed into a ceramic studio and there is a flurry of making and firing. The west of Ireland is a very inspiring place to be creative, the landscape, the Atlantic, animals, the changing seasons, a song, a book, a photograph or a conversation can spark a line of inquiry that may become new work. At the moment I am having fun making a range of greyhound tableware inspired by my dog Mikey. I love my dogs and this work is very close to my heart. I don't use a potters wheel, each item is hand built individually and no two items are exactly the same. Although I continue to work in arts education I now balance this with my time making in the STUDIO WAY OUT WEST.

Random Acts of Ceramics from the Wild West of Ireland

STUDIO WAY OUT WEST is a small west Sligo based ceramic studio set up by myself, Leslie in 2017. I fell in love with ceramics when i worked with the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland. I was very lucky to have met some fantastic designers and makers all of whom had a real passion for what they did. Fast forward a few years and following a move to Spain i had the chance to take up ceramics. When I came back to Ireland I spent a year working as an a assistant to ceramicist Linda Gault in her studio in Sligo. It was this move way out west that gave me opportunity to finally develop my own work.

Each item is hand built individually. At the moment I am really having fun making a range of greyhound inspired tableware, wall art and porcelain jewellery. Every day is a discovery and I don't exactly know where it will take me. If products are not in stock they can be made to order and will take 2 weeks to make, finish, fire and deliver. Enquiries and commissions are welcome!

Although I continue to work in arts education I now balance this with my time making in the STUDIO WAY OUT WEST.
