How does PAL support individuals/groups that feed stray animals?
Our distribution of animal food is for areas where it is difficult to obtain food due to quarantine, such as Hebron or Bethlehem, or due to financial conditions. Animal food is provided if no alternative is available.
Food is distributed to the caregivers of injured\sick or stray animals that need help. And so we can not give food to any person who owns a cat or a dog.

Otherwise, you can get food from meat stores, if you cannot buy your own food.
Also, be careful not to feed the animals any meat with spices or salt. Make sure to boil the meat a little.

You can be part of the change and the self-initiative.

How do I help an infected animal on the street?
The street has become unsafe for the presence of animals in it, so we see from time to time infected animals such as cats and dogs and some are unable to provide a helping hand to them, in this case look at the topic that you have been placed in this position to have mercy on this object and provide good for it, and you are required to do the following:
1- Do not cause an accident, you cannot help an animal if you are injured in this process. If you are shopping and finding a cat or dog run over in the middle of the street, turn on your sign, park your car completely out of the way, set the parking brake, and turn the lights on. If you have emergency flares, be prepared to use them.
2- Search for a small carton box from any store.
3- Look for a blanket or bathrobe to try to catch the animal with it.
4- Find someone to help you help the animal.
5- Restrain the animal if possible. Create a barrier or use a stand, leash, cloth, or rope length to keep the animal in the area so that it does not rush in front of the speeding vehicles. Check the vehicles to slow them down if you are unable to confine the animal, or divert traffic around it if it appears to be infected and is still on the road.
6- Be careful, be careful when approaching the animal. If you manage to get close enough to capture them, you will have a good chance of scratching or biting. So the animal’s fear in such circumstances may put it on the defensive. Do not approach if the dog is roaring.
7- When moving towards the animal, speak calmly to reassure them. Make sure they can see you all the time as you get closer, and perhaps motivate them to come to you by serving strong-smelling food like canned tuna.
8 - When you approach it, try to assess the animal’s condition in terms of its bad injury, and the extent of your ability to deal with the situation, some animals are absent from consciousness, some are large and difficult to carry, some of them may be afraid and fierce.
9-If you are sure you can get help and control over the animal, try to pull it to your car with food, and close the door. In most cases, it is not a good idea to try to drive somewhere with an unrestrained stranger in your car; It may become hectic or aggressive. Cats may do the same, as well as rest under the car seat, and it may be dangerous to try to extract them. Therefore, it is preferable to have a companion to transport him.
10- Transfer the animal to the nearest veterinarian in your area (click the link for a list of veterinarians in Palestine). Most veterinarians will come to the accident site and help treat and catch the animal at the accident site.
11-In the event that you are afraid or you are unable to deal with the issue, you can seek help from passers-by, and it is also the least thing you can do is pull it to the side of the street and water it and put food in front of it, and recommend a close gatekeeper or shop owner to follow it and look after him until You bring someone to help him.
12- Here at the Palestinian Society for Animal Welfare, we have neither a specialized rescue team nor a shelter, but we are ready to provide assistance as much as we can and direct you to the closest veterinarian and ensure that he is physically treated. Also, if you can contribute financially to treating animals, do not hesitate. All institutions that deal with animals depend on donations and your contribution to treatment may help us very much.
13- The last thing is to never run over an animal by mistake or find it suffering and does not help it. To act at the moment saves the life of the animal and gives him a great opportunity for treatment, do not leave it to others, as it may move from its place or be at risk of infection again. Acted on time.

Veterinary advice .. ways to care for orphan cats
For them - Asmaa Abushal
If your cat was exposed to risks during childbirth and died, or one of the kittens refrained from breastfeeding, or found small kittens in the street without a family for them, and you wanted to save them from hunger and the danger of the street, all these cases require you to save the kittens quickly, and know the methods of dealing With infants during this stage.

Foundations of care

Veterinarian Elham Ahmed says to Al-Hann: The early days of the life of young cats need special care from the breeder, because he is required to replace the mother's absence for any reason. Hence the responsibility of the cat owner is a mother, a rescuer and a doctor at the same time in this critical age, and from The most important basics that you should take care of:

Dr. Ilham Ahmed
1- Peperona can be purchased from animal stores or replaced with a dropper, syringe without tooth, a bottle of lens solution, or any similar method.

2 - In the first two weeks, attention should be paid to breastfeeding small cats every two hours, about 6 cm. With increasing age, the period can be gradually spaced according to the cat's need.

3 - During lactation, care must be taken not to put the cat diagonally on the back. Rather, the best situation is to place the cat on her face with a slightly raised body and head, or to feed the cat in a standing position on the hind legs so that she does not experience the "chunk" and put her life at risk.

4 - After feeding, bring a cotton drenched in warm water and thoroughly wipe the cat's excretion areas until you take out, as the cats at this stage cannot do this task alone and the mother after feeding licks this area with her tongue until she exits and then flushes, until she Cats do the extraction without assistance at the age of a month or a month and a half.

5 - Be sure to warm the cats well, and place a fur doll with them to make up for the mother's texture.

6 - In the event that an unpleasant smell appears to the cats as a result of the absence of the mother's hygiene element, it is not allowed to resort to bathing until after at least two months, but dry shampoo for these matters can be purchased from stores selling animals' belongings, or using wet wipes for children and drying The cat's body is well-lit without any exposure to the air.

She explained d. Elham Ahmed Another way to care for young cats is to place orphaned kittens with another cat who has cats of the same age but during their absence, and remote monitoring, it is possible to embrace the young and be a surrogate mother for them and thus take charge of feeding, cleaning and everything without the intervention of the breeder.

Cat problems

There is no doubt that artificial feeding and the absence of the mother affect the health of the kittens, and may expose them to some health risks, how can the breeder deal with them?

Dr. Ilham Ahmed answered this question, saying: Breast milk gives young cats immunity that protects them from many diseases, so orphan cats need additional food when they reach two weeks in compensation for minerals and vitamins, so you can enter "cerelac" wheat or rice side by side with the milk meal, and if you accept The cat. It is possible that we can start a week later, to provide other meals, such as ge**er veggies or skimmed yogurt. With a month old, you can serve skim nesto and boiled and well-crushed vegetables.

And I listed d. Ilham Ahmed One of the problems that the breeder can face with orphan cats is in the following lines:

* Usually sucking places to urinate

This habit arises in orphan cats and dogs as a result of feeling hungry in the absence of the mother, so the animal begins to search for an alternative to his mother's chest and finds nothing but resorting to this habit with his brothers or himself, and drinking urine.

Drinking enough milk does not prevent the cat from stopping this habit, and thus the breeder can paint this area with an unpleasant taste, in which case, it is preferable to use diluted vinegar by one tablespoon of vinegar on a quarter of a cup of water.

Vaccinations

There are two types of vaccinations for kittens:

1 - Quartet from the age of two months: It is a first dose and another booster dose after "21 days to a month", and a second dose one year after the first dose.

2- Rabies vaccination: from the age of 4: 6 months, taken once every 3 years.

* Insects

There are two types of insects, internal represented by abdominal worms and external like fleas, and before the age of two months it is not recommended to take any medications if the kittens infect either of them, but each type has alternative methods of treatment.

Fleas: If the cat is infected with fleas, it must be disposed of manually without using any alternative method that may kill the cat.

- Worms: Small cats are often exposed to worms, especially if they are from street cats, which leads to cats not benefiting from food. It is not correct for two months to take a worm disk, but this problem can be eliminated by boiling leaves from "wormwood", "chamomile flower leaves" , "Chamomile" are all different names for the same grass, boiled with water, and the cat is taken from him twice a day by 1 cm for 4 days to clean the stomach and expel worms

Diarrhea

Diarrhea in young ages is dangerous and sometimes fatal, so the cat needs to separate that the rest of the cats and warm them well, while taking a dose of "Antinal" or "Kapect", a medicine for children drinking, taken from them 1/2 cm twice a day until the diarrhea stops.

Each of us can help wounded and sick street animals.
If you find an animal in need of medical veterinary care, do not hesitate to contact the nearest veterinarian in your area, and do not worry about the cost of treatment, veterinarians will often not receive any money for street animal treatment. We're also ready to help as much as we can.

Most street animals are pets, safe and do not attack, especially when they are injured or sick, and you can use a blanket to carry them and medical gloves if you don't want to touch them directly
