Ace was presented to us with a history of blunt trauma to the eye, when he was playing in his backyard.
He was squinting due to extreme pain and discomfort.
Ophthalmic examination revealed a mucopurulent ocular discharge, corneal ulcer, hyphema, collapsed anterior chamber and severe uveitis.

We immediately started him on topical and oral medication. Temporary tacking sutures were placed, to prevent the secondary entropion from damaging the cornea further.

His eye was progressively better over a period of 2 weeks.

If your pet shows any signs of squinting, redness, unusual discharge, pawing at the eye or bleeding,
Contact us at your earliest.
*Prompt diagnosis and treatment are essential to give the eye the best chance of healing.

Ira , a 12 year old female ShihTzu was presented to us with a growth on her right upper eyelid. The growth seemed quite big. With friction against the cornea, a corneal ulcer had developed too. After a thorough pre-operative exam, we decided to surgically excise the tumour. Surgery and recovery were both uneventful. Checking the type of tumour post excision is very important. This one turned out to be a cancerous one.

Meibomian masses are the most common eyelid tumord of middle-aged and older dogs. The average age of a dog to get them is around 8 years.

We do not know why dogs get eyelid tumors, nor can we prevent them. You can only check their eyes regularly to look for signs of any problem.
Early diagnosis and treatment is key in such cases.

P.S. Cats can get them too, but not as often as dogs.

Cherry eye

is a common term for prolapse or “popping out” of the third eyelid gland.

It appears as a red swollen mass on the lower eyelid near the nose or muzzle (resembling a cherry). It may be large and cover a significant portion of the cornea, or it may be small and appear only periodically.

The breeds most commonly affected include cocker spaniels, bulldogs, Boston terriers, beagles, Lhasa Apsos, Shih Tzus, and other brachycephalic breeds. Burmese and Persian cats are also reported to have "cherry eye."

Treatment involves surgical replacement of the third eyelid gland. It is important to treat the condition as soon as possible in order to minimize permanent damage to the eye or gland. This is critical because the third eyelid gland produces up to 50% of the watery (aqueous) portion of the tear film. Without adequate tear production, your dog is much more likely to develop "dry eye," which can seriously impair vision.

Surgical removal of the gland is not recommended as it has an important role in maintaining the health of the surface of the eye.

If left untreated: longer the gland is pr*****ed, greater is the risk of associated problems.

Any sign of "cherry eye” should be brought to your veterinarian's attention immediately.

If you have any questions about this disorder, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 9175041239

A young, blind & abandoned Siberian Husky was rescued by and presented to us with fever, inappetance and a purulent vaginal discharge. After performing further diagnostics (blood work, radiography and ultrasonography), it was diagnosed as an Open Pyometra.
The owners opted Surgical correction, and Hasi was back to being herself in no time.

Pyometra is a secondary infection that occurs as a result of hormonal changes in the female's reproductive tract. It usually occurs two to eight weeks after the heat cycle.

Pyometra is a serious medical condition that requires prompt treatment.

The clinical signs are variable and include lethargy, anorexia, polyuria, polydipsia, and vomiting. Signs can progress rapidly to shock and death.

The preferred treatment is to surgically remove the infected uterus and ovaries by performing an ovariohysterectomy (spay). Dogs diagnosed in the early stage of the disease are very good surgical candidates.

The best and only prevention for pyometra is to have your dog spayed. Spaying removes the hormonal stimulation that causes both heat cycles and the uterine changes that allow pyometra to happen.

Meet the Vets at Tailsmen.

Dr. Varun & Dr.Shambhavi graduated together from Bombay Veterinary College. Both were introduced to clinical practice in their third year of vet school and knew right away that it was something they wanted to pursue. The dream of running a clinic together sprouted way back then.
The vision was always to have a Multi-Specialty clinic with several facilities under the same roof.

Having completed their post graduation in veterinary surgery and radiology,
Dr. Varun practiced with a well known Multi-Specialty Hospital in Mumbai,
whereas Dr Shambhavi worked with a Pune-based NGO.

Dr. Varun and Dr. Shambhavi have both completed various courses in India and travelled to the USA to gain experience in the field.

It was finally on 19th Sept 2021, that their dream “Tailsmen Veterinary Specialty” came into existence.

Dr. Varun is a very meticulous and hard worker. He holds a PG diploma in Small animal Ultrasonography has keen interests in Orthopedics and Soft Tissue Surgeries.

Dr Shambhavi is compassionate and perseverant. She shows interest in Soft tissue surgery. She’s a veterinary ophthalmologist who is trained in performing various eye surgeries including cataract surgeries in dogs and cats.

Both these vets aim at providing Quality Care for animals.

Also,
that's "Rocky" with them.
A blind dog adopted by the clinic who will definitely lift everyone's mood .
So don't forget to stop and say Hi 👋🏻
