By increasing the number of plants that can be grown in a given area of greenhouse, the cost per plant can be reduced.

☘️Several factors must be considered in the design of the A-frame system.??

The nutrient solution enters the high end of the slightly sloping top pipe, exited at the low end of that pipe into the high end of the next one, and so on, to the reservoir from where it was pumped.

The A-frames must be oriented north-south so that shade from one side will not be cast on the other.

The base of the frame must be wide enough to eliminate any mutual shading of one tier over the next lower one.

The tiers of growing channels must be separated from each other with adequate distance to allow for the mature height of the crop grown.

That is, the plants of a lower-tier must not grow into those of the tier above.

Finally, since this is an NFT system, all principles of oxygenation, nutrition, and optimum solution temperature apply.☘️??

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL PROPAGATION FROM SEED

. During the seedling stage, plants are extra sensitive to heat. Even crops that prefer warmer temperatures shouldn’t be overexposed to heat in this stage. In fact, seedlings are pretty sensitive all around, so you shouldn’t be adding too many nutrients, fertilizers, or pesticides.

. For germination, you can use a seedling heat mat to help maintain a good temperature in your propagation chamber.

. Consistently keeping your media wet enough to be soggy can lead to what is known as damping off. It can be caused by a variety of moulds and fungi, and in the propagation stage, causes plants to lose stem structure and layover flat.

. We do suggest adding nutrients, but not until after you see the first set of true leaves. Use the same nutrient mix as you would in grow-out but dilute it much further. You should have an EC of .8–1.2 as an absolute maximum. Remember that all of the nutrients a plant needs in its first stage of life are provided by the cotyledons. Once true leaves show up, the plant will depend more on external sources (in Hydroponics, synthetic fertilizers)

The Debate on "ORGANICS" and "HYDROPONICS"

There is a huge popular debate about the value of "organic" fertilizers and methods, many people would like to apply "organics" to hydroponics.

Currently accepted organic fertilizer components are dependent upon organisms in the soil to convert the "organic" materials into a usable form for plants.
