eeves of the Prophet’s (s) robes. The Prophet (s) wanted to wear the robe to go to prayers. Rather than disturb Muezza, Muhammad (s) cut off the sleeve to leave Muezza in peace. Prophet (s) then stroked the cat three times, which, it is said, granted Muezza seven lives and the ability to land on his feet at all times (as you might know, cats have a self-righting mechanism,a righting reflex, which is a complex series of movements when a cat falls and which protects the cat from breaking her back). Prophet (s) was so attached to his cat that when he gave sermons he let Muezza rest on his lap and he also drank from water previously drunk by his cat. He also did his ablutions from the same water that was drunk by a cat. He seemed to treat his cat in the same way as cat lovers do today but even cat lovers might think twice about drinking the same water that had been drunk by a cat for fear of transmission of disease from the cat’s saliva (but see below). Islam teaches Muslims to treat cats well and that the cat is a creature to be cherished and loved. Mistreating a cat is regarded as a severe sin in Islam. Cats according to the Qur`an and Sunnah
An example as to how Muslims are punished for mistreating cats can be found in the `ahadith (oral traditions telling the story of the Prophet Mohammed (s) and which have been recorded in writing). When a woman kept a cat locked up and failed to feed the cat until the cat died, the woman was tortured and "put to hell.”
It is believed that you will suffer no harm if you drink from the cat’s water provided no impurities are seen in the cat’s mouth. In another story from the `ahadith, it is stated that a when a cat ate a pudding put down during prayers, the person who was in charge of the pudding ate from the same place as the cat and Prophet (s) said this was alright as the cat is not unclean and is "one of those who go around amongst us". Islam teaches Muslims that, in relation to a cat:
the cat should not be sold for money or other traded goods
cats saliva is harmless unless the cat has "visible impurities" in the mouth
that Muslims are free to live with cats but they must treat cats well, providing the cat with enough water and food and giving "roaming time" (a degree of freedom of movement)
Bukhari’s authentic hadith is one of the six major Sunni hadith collections (Wikipedia). Muslims see this hadith as the most trusted collection; many would say the most authoritative book after the Qur`an. This hadith regarding cats is set out in Volume 3, Book 40, Number 552. The story of the women mentioned above is recited. It seems that the woman was scratched by the cat and to punish the cat she imprisoned it and failed to feed it. Her actions were frowned upon and she was duly punished. Islam’s teachings in relation to cats indicates a gentle approach to our fellow creatures, including humans!

Sip on coffee and make some furry friends at this family-friendly spot at Al Muneera
Abu Dhabi has a new spot that combines UAE residents’ love for cats and coffee. Meow Cafe, which had its soft opening in November, is the first venue of its kind to open in the capital. The well-lit space, located at Al Muneera, is home to 13 furry residents.
The venue is inspired by the cat cafes found in Japan – the interiors even feature a cherry blossom tree – where visitors can enjoy hot and cold beverages and baked treats, from crepe cakes to zaatar croissants.
Meanwhile animal lovers can head to a separate section to play with the cats, many of which sport Japanese-inspired names such as Yuri and Kora. There are different breeds, from Siamese and Persians to British shorthairs.

The entry fee to the cat section is Dh45 for adults and Dh35 for children under 10 for an hour.
There, customers can interact with the fluffy residents that roam freely.
The space features plenty of accessories for the animals, from cat trees to scratching posts, and a glass wall that allows the animals to people-watch.
There’s also a separate area to which the cats can retreat if they don’t feel like socialising with customers.
Meow Cafe started as a passion project, says Mouza Al Mannaei, the operations manager, with all of the cats rescued.
“Some are adopted, some are dumped pets, and some were bought because they were found in bad shape in Al Mina,” Ms Al Mannaei says.
“They stayed with the owner’s family for three years before they were moved to this location.”
The idea for the cafe came when the owner visited Japan and saw the venues there. Her daughter was a huge fan of the animals but they couldn’t go in because young children weren’t allowed.
It sparked the idea for a cat cafe in the UAE that was family-friendly, and didn’t place restrictions on age.
Of course, there are “cat rules” that have to be followed to ensure the children and cats are having a good time.
Children are told not to jump, run or yell at the animals, to be gentle with them at all times, and not to use a flash camera. Children also have to be accompanied by an adult, with a maximum two for each grown-up.
“The staff are also on hand," Ms Al Mannaei says. "They will share the rules with those visiting the cats. If someone breaks the rules more than three times, they will be asked to leave, for the safety of children and the cats."
The rules support the cafe's overall goal – to make it more educational, especially for children.
“We wanted to teach young children the best way to properly interact with cats,” Ms Al Mannaei says.
“That way they can learn the proper way to deal with them, and make sure they don’t accidentally abuse them.
"Cats and other pets are a huge responsibility as well. This way, children got a chance learn about the responsibility that goes into caring for them before getting a pet.”
Unlike some other cat cafes around the world, the cats aren’t up for adoption or sale.
“We love the animals here, and are not looking to give them away,” Ms Al Mannaei says. “They’re part of the family.”
The concept of cat cafes isn't new to the UAE. Dubai's first cat cafe, Ailuromania, opened in 2015.
Dubai residents can also meet some furry friends at Vibrissae, a cafe named after the whiskers of a cat, that opened in Al Safa in 2021.

என்று பலர் திட்டுவதை நாம் கேட்டிருப்போம். குழம்பு சட்டியில் இருக்கும் மீனை தின்று விட்டாலும் அமைதியாக எதுவுமே நடக்காதது போல் பூனை இருக்கும் அந்த அப்பாவியான லுக் பூனைக்கு மட்டுமே பொருந்தும். இந்த குறும்பு பூனைக்குத்தான் இன்று (ஆகஸ்ட் 8) ஒரு நாளை ஒதுக்கிக் கொண்டாடுகிறது உலகம்.
பூனைகள் பண்டைய எகிப்தியர்கள் வழிபாட்டு விலங்காக ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு, அதை வழிபட்டு வந்தனர். பூனைகள் மனிதனால் 10,000 ஆண்டுகள் பழக்கப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளன என தொல்பொருள் ஆராய்ச்சியாளர்கள் கூறுகின்றனர். ஆரம்பத்தில் எலிகளை உண்பதற்காகவே பூனைகள் வளர்க்கப்பட்டன. பிறகு பூனைகள் மனிதனுடன் பழகும் விதத்தினால் ஈர்க்கப்பட்டு பூனைகளை வளர்க்க தொடங்கினர்.
பூனை பாலூட்டி இனத்தைச் சேர்ந்த ஊனுண்ணி. வீடுகளில் வளர்க்கப்படுவதால் சைவ உணவை உண்ணும். மிதக்கும் விலா எலும்புகளால் பூனையின் முன்னங்கால்கள் இணைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. அதனால் தன் தலை நுழையும் எந்த சிறிய இடத்திலும் பூனைகள் நுழைந்துவிடும். பூனைகளுக்கு சிறந்த இரவுப் பார்வை, கேட்கும் திறன் உண்டு. எனவே, இரவில் சிறு சத்தம் கேட்டாலும் இரையை வேட்டையாடி உண்டுவிடும். சத்தமின்றி வேட்டையாடி முடிக்கும் திறமை பூனைக்கு உண்டு.
பூனைகளின் உடலமைப்பு:
பூனைகள் பெரும்பாலும் 4-5 கிலோ எடை கொண்டவை. பூனைகளின் சராசரி உயரம் 23-25 செ.மீ மற்றும் உடல் நீளம் 46 செ.மீ, பூனையின் வால் சராசரியாக 30 செ.மீ நீளமுடையதாக இருக்கும். பூனைகளின் காதுகளில் 32 தசைநார்கள் உண்டு. அவற்றின் உடல் வெப்பநிலை 38-39° (101-102.2°F) தாடையிலுள்ள 35 பற்களும் இரையைக் கொல்லும் வகையிலும், மாமிசத்தை கிழிக்கும் வகையிலும் அமைந்துள்ளன. பூனைகள் குறைந்த அளவிலான ஒளியை (டபீட்டம் லூசிடம்) கண்ணின் விழித்திரைக்குப் பின்னால் குவிப்பதால் குறைந்த அல்லது மங்கலான ஒளியிலும் துல்லியமான பார்வை திறன் கொண்டுள்ளது.
பூனைகள் ஆல்பம்
பூனைகளைப் பற்றி நாம் அறிந்துகொள்ள வேண்டியவை:
1. பூனை சுத்தமான விலங்கு. தன் நேரத்தின் பெரும்பகுதியை சுத்தம் செய்வதிலேயே கழித்துவிடும்.
2. பூனைகள் 13-14 மணி நேரம் தூங்குவதிலேயே கழித்துவிடுகின்றன.
3. மனிதனுக்கு பார்க்கத் தேவைப்படும் ஒளியில் ஆறில் ஒரு பங்கு ஒளியிலிலேயே பார்க்கக்கூடிய திறன் படைத்தவை.
4. பூனைகள் தமது காதை 180° வரை அசைக்கக்கூடியதுடன் அவை தனது இரண்டு காதுகளையும் தனித்தனியாக அசைக்கக்கூடிய ஆற்றலினையும் கொண்டது.
5. பூனைகளின் மோப்ப சக்தி மனிதர்களை விடவும் 14 மடங்குகள் அதிகம்.
6. பூனைகளால் இனிப்புச் சுவையை உணர முடியாது. இதற்கு காரணம் பூனைகளுக்கு சுவை அரும்புகள் கிடையாது.
7. பூனைகள் 100க்கும் மேற்பட்ட வித்தியாசமான சத்தங்களை எழுப்பக்ககூடியது.
8. மனிதர்களின் கைரேகையினை போன்றே பூனைகளின் மூக்கு ரேகைகள் தனித்துவமானவை.

14. பூனைகளின் ஆயுட்காலம் சராசரியாக 12-15 ஆண்டுகள்.

அரபியில் ஹிர்ரா என்றால் ஆண் பூனை என்று பெயர் ஹுரைரா என்றால் குட்டி ஆண் பூனை என்று அர்த்தம்
பூனையை மட்டும் வீட்டில் வளர்க்க அனுமதுயளித்துள்ளார்கள் ஆனால் ஒரே ஒரு நிபந்தனை அவ்வாறு வளர்க்கும் பூனையை சுதந்திரமாக விட்டு விட வேண்டும் இதை கட்டிவைத்தோ அல்லது அறையிலோ அல்லலது கூண்டிலோ வைத்து வளர்க்க அனுமதியில்லை அதை வீட்டுக்குள் சுதந்திரமாக எப்பொழுது வேண்டுமானாலும் வந்து போக அனுமதிக்க வேண்டும்
