Story of Pinki aka Dhanno, a 14-year-old beloved Indian female dog.

Died on 1st January 2023 due to old age and a growing external tumor on her chest.

I know Pinki since 2014 when I went to rent a flat in her society. Gradually, she became a playmate to my 2 Labradors and started frequenting my flat.

She started living inside my flat and whenever she needed to go out she would indicate it to me and I would let her out. Then she returns and mildly knocks my door to let her in.

Many neighbors started having lots of issues with her as well as me for sheltering her. One of the complaint is also her killing pigeons and scattering the remains here and there. Obviously, I do not have control over such things.

Once she gave birth to 8 puppies underneath the generator and when it rained I brought all her pups in along with her. So, now the neighbors started complaining that I run some sort of puppy business. They also reported the same to my landlord...

Before me, these same people ditched her in a sack in some far off places but all the times she came back to her place!

Now, I took her full responsibility and got her sterilized and vaccinated apart from taking care of her food and shelter.

When I shifted to the adjacent society, these neighbors pressurized me to take her along with me. I ended up fighting for her rights to live in that society as that is the only place she holds dear ever since she was a 30-35 day old pup. Although I tried taking her into my new adjacent flat she would never leave her original place and would not even live with me and my dogs. I started feeding her morning and evening and also took care of all her medical and emotional needs from time to time.

Time progressed and Pinki grew old though she never lost on her resilience. She only grew calmer day by day.

Last September I felt a little lump on her chest, which gradually grew in size and then one day it burst with blood not stopping. I took her to the vet who carried out some test and prescribed her medications. Vet did not recommend surgery because of her progressing age. After caring for her for 2 months the tumor only kept growing and growing. Although she was eating at first for the last 10 days she completely left eating any food or water. I accepted that her time to depart is nearing.

Yesterday, when I went to see her in the morning she was sitting in an unusual place - the mandir of the society, in a posture as if she is asking something from the God. And then she waited for everyone to enjoy the new year day. At around 9 p.m. while I was feeding the neighborhood dogs, the guard of her society came running that Pinki is unable to stand up and is struggling. I rushed to her and pat her after which she vomited and became unconscious. But resilient as she is, she did not give up and she responded to my calling her name each time for at least 8 times. Its as if she did not want to go. And then she became still.....

I requested her society RWA to not distance her from the society as that was the place she thought to be her own. And she was cremated inside the premise in a corner of the park with all love that she so rightly deserved.

Indeed, a dog teaches us to be human. I ardently believe that was her purpose of life.

Sterilization drive - 31 October to 13 November - 6 buddies.

31/12/2022

16 November 2022 - While I was taking out my dog for a morning walk, I saw this dog lying by the side of the road.

Definitely it is not a neighborhood dog as I have been feeding and taking care of all of them and I know each one very well. Someone must have abandoned this miserable dog and the rope around his neck confirms that it was someone's pet. He could not fend for himself from the other dogs in the area. However, the other dogs did not harm him in any way, just sniffed and maintained a distance!

I do not know how this poor being reached up to this situation but his skin was fully exposed and the bone was prominently visible, most probably an accidental case.

Although seeing his condition I didn't believe he could survive, I tried all possible means to rescue him, however he did not allow anyone to touch him. His condition was out of my reach as there was no time left for first aid and preliminary treatment and he needed critical emergency care. I called all the nearby NGOs who as usual did not help, some NGOs genuinely did not have space while some other did not even wanted to try. It was not up till the evening that I could manage to send him to the vet with the help of a professional catcher.

His blood was sent for test and he was started on IV. However, time was running out and finally he gave up the next morning.

Almost 1.5 months have passed but the plight in which this buddy was keeps coming back to my mind. Hope his soul found peace in the ever-loving embrace of the Almighty.

Story of Gini - the abandoned rescued German Shepherd female dog in September 2021 with a huge tumor.

Nearly 1+ year ago, I rescued Gini and got her huge tumor removed. But then this nasty tumor reappeared a year later now.

To make the matter worse, she has also been suffering from a mixed skin infection as she had been living on the streets.

Now she is with me during her postoperative recovery.

This time the surgery was a dual one - 1 was for her tumor removal and another one was for her sterilization.

She is also on medication for her skin infection and is on the road to recovery.

Nevertheless, it requires a lot of care with medicating, bathing, powdering, and lots of involvement.

It is very tough physically and mentally for a full time working mom of a toddler to afford such treatment.

But you can ease the burden to an extent by contributing financially. I urge you all to donate towards Gini's treatment cost whatever you can, I ended up all my saving for it. Any contribution will be of so much assistance to serve other animals on the roads.

Distemper is a deadly disease in dogs. It is contagious and can affect a whole population of dogs.

This buddy is in the last stage of distemper and someone brought him to the shelter this morning.

Maya - a male street dog not known to me earlier.

I spotted this dog with a hind leg limping and pursued him for months for a regular treatment. But some days he would appear and other days he would just not! So I named him Maya.

Gradually, I befriended his whole team of 5 dogs who live in a garbage dump by daily feeding so that I can start Maya's treatment.

And here they are - all beautifully accepting me and Maya cooperating 100% for his treatment.

Dogs are great, they are ever accepting and so very kind.

My children do not speak. I have to understand when they are sick, hungry, and thirsty. And yes my children never grow up, they always need to be understand in their own ways. I am a mom to all the canines I meet. The greatest pleasure in this world is to be the mom of these innocent souls. Happy mother's day to all moms like me.

When will such brutality and cruelty stop? When?

This buddy has been reported to me today morning as badly beaten by locals 3 days back.
Since that day he has been lying in some abandoned home with no one to take care and bleeding profusely from his neck.

Upon inspection, I found his neck to have multiple dog bites. He had some pedigree gravy and drank a lot of water that I offered.

One of his hind leg is not responding and the lower spine has a big gap between the vertebrae. So, it is clear that people must have beaten up this dog at this particular part.

I am not familiar to this dog but this buddy seemed to be friendly even after he met with such cruelty at the hands of humans like me!

Your sins will always be take into account by the Almighty. This is inevitable. And it is a myth that taking a dip in the Holy Ganga wil wash your sins away. Only those sins are pardoned which you committed unknowingly. Beating a dog to death will never ever be pardoned, not in this life, not in the afterlife.

As the heat soars, it's tough for our streeties. They go to the dirty canals for respite and fall ill.

Black has been smelling rotten and coughing since 3 to 4 days now.

Here he is today after his rescue and bath.

Isn't an Indie a superb dog!

The heat is already soaring and it has been again a tough time for our street buddies. People out there please do your bit to arrange for drinking water this summer for the animals on the roads. It does not cost anything!

We have successfully placed 10 such earthen bowls on the pavements or any favorable place by the roadside and we are going to carry on this service throughout the summers wherever needed.

Winter months had been tough on us rescuing and saving lives of many street buddies. One success story is that of Jackpot.

One February night, Jackpot, a 3-month-old pup was left tied to a tree along with his sister by his owner. The reason was that the landlord of Jackpot's owner was not letting the dogs in.

In the following few days, Jackpot fall ill, was refusing to eat, vomiting, and had bloody p**p. Someone notified us and the same very night we rescued him.

Soon we realized that the dreaded had happened and he got infected with the deadly Parvo virus. A very few pups only recover from this fatal infection and we are happy that we saved him with regular care, morning-evening drips of supportive treatment, not allowing to drink water, every hourly feeding of ice-cream sips, dahi sips, moong dal water, rice starch. Within ten days he started eating his regular food.

Now, a nearby family takes care of him and we make sure we regularly check up on his health status and do the needful wherever required.

We wish that Jackpot lives a healthy and happy life ever after.

My Angel literally came in disguise.....
It was white and soft with an intoxicated smell and aura
Unlike angels it was visible and it looked directly into my eyes
All of a sudden the light of its eyes dispelled the darkness around...
And while my fairy tale angel disappeared it commanded me a purpose - lifelong, to serve its species till the end.
It was Glutton - the supreme adviser of Pashupatinath Dog Rescue Center.

Happy Birthday Glu boy wherever you are, if only the love we shared could bring you back...

(This is in fond remembrance of our Glutton boy who came as a gift on 15 Feb 2012 and passed away on 25 April 2021)

The vet has given him first-aid and lab tests and drip are scheduled for today. He needs human affection along with good care at this moment, so we are fostering him as of now.

Today is the last day of the year.
And we are trying to look back at the year passing by in our rescue center.

Feeding: For the whole of last year we were able to continue with daily night feeding of 30 buddies in our locality.

Treatment: We successfully treated Kattu, Raja, Jack, Bhur, and Gini. They are hale and hearty now.

Step to improve quality of life: This year we sterilized 9 buddies in and around.

Blessed: We were blessed to be loved by Bushy, Black, Jack, and Kala who are now in the ever-loving embrace of the Lord.

Right now we are only a 3-member team on and off with no donations or sponsors. In 2022, we are looking for associations and donations which can help us to touch lives of more buddies in need.

Please Paytm/Gpay at 9654862062. For full-time work, please drop a WhatsApp at this no.

Update on Kala - our neighborhood dog whose home was a temple.

He is no more as of 1 p.m. today.
Vet visited him on the spot and he was hypothermic at 91 degree.
He had a very low chance of survival but we did give a try with the emergency medications.

This is a myth that stray dogs can survive the harsh climate on roads. The fact is that they need a roof of some sort on their head like we do.

The human society failed Kala. Yes we, the most advanced and most powerful species failed to let Kala survive his full life term. The ironical of all facts that will always linger in my mind is that so called people of Arya Samaj let this dog die out in the cold winter nights by snatching his home and not providing him an alternate option to survive.

Rest in peace child. May Lord Bhairav keep you in his embrace forever.

28/12/2021

Dare to call you hypocrites.
You, who turned the temple to various religious events in the name of Arya Samaj for benefits of mankind?
You are a hypocrite who didn't bother to care for the dog who was residing in the temple.
The irony is that this dog was brought to this temple because humans needed a black dog to feed on Saturdays!
Now his home, the temple is kept closed and the perpetrators don't care to even think that where this dog will go in cold chilly winter nights.
Result-see this pic.
This buddy got drenched in rain the previous night outside the temple.
And yesternight he did not eat his favorite food that we feed each night.
Today morning when I checked on him he was shaking and is running a high fever.
We have given him temporary shelter in our rescue center and will treat him until he is again up and running.
May these morons rot in hell who has made this dog shelter less.
May the roof on their head crunch one day to absolute nothing.

There are around 6.2 crores dogs on the streets across India.

If you cannot dedicate a corner inside your home you can at least give a corner in the balcony or veranda. They will eat any leftover in your kitchen.

One thing I can vouch for the street dogs is that "Love them and they will never ever never fail you."

No matter wherever I travel I am always fortunate to discover their selfless affections. And I am thankful to the Creator for giving me that something extra to be able to sense them, feel them, and love them.
