Being pet parents could be challenging sometimes especially when it comes to legal aspects in the part of town, state, and country you are living in. so a pet parent needs to be aware of the laws for pets. I had to experience a situation about a year ago when a guest of my neighbor walked past my home at 10 pm and my dogs barked. The man in question while running away from them fell and hurt himself. The next day I had the police visiting my home stating that this man had filed an FIR against my parents. The complaint was that they had let the dogs out knowingly to chase him away. The inspector in charge of this case said that it was the first time for her and she had no idea how to go about a matter like this. I showed her a couple of case histories in the past along with the vaccination details of my dogs and also got a municipal reference letter from the municipal chairman and made her understand that had my dogs bitten the person, then I definitely would’ve been liable and had to take responsibility. But none of my dogs ran behind him or even laid a finger on him. While running away due to fear, he fell and broke his limb and that wasn’t because of my dogs. There was nothing they found against my parents and the police had to close the case. Some important lessons learned, ensure that your pets are vaccinated and keep a proper record of the treatments. There should be a signboard outside your home – “Beware of Dogs” with their walking timings. This should be followed even in apartments where they allow keeping pets. So visitors will know that there’s a dog in the house.
