The Probably Paradise Trust and Shelter is at Takve Village near Karjat in Maharashtra. It is situated halfway between Mumbai and Pune and is reachable with a local as well as express train. Roxanne Davur, Master Trainer in Animal Welfare,Govt Of India 2001, has been into working and rescuing animals for many years. Finally in 2000 she founded the Terra Anima Trust in Ooty which was restarted in M

aharashtra with new Trustees. Recently because of different aims and goals ,Roxanne and the Terra Anima Trust parted ways and The Probably Paradise Trust was formed with like minded people. The aim and goal is to give a safe haven to aged, injured and handicapped animals. To impart Education as well as encourage compassion and respect towards all living beings and their environment. To also ensure that any animal has a dignified and respectful death. To continue past the life span of its present founder until hopefully comes the day when no Shelters are required. How to get here- dress for mud, dust and pawprints...
The Shelter is not a Zoo, a commercial kennel nor am I one with alot of pets. This establishment is primarily to give shelter to aged, handicapped, accident case, chronically damaged animals- it is their home- many are looking for an individual forever home with a family after recovery. From Mumbai – By car:

When leaving from Mumbai, take the old Mumbai-Pune highway or the expressway until Sheddung then the NH4
From Panvel travel 27 km towards Pune. Reach Chowk phata. Take a left from Chowk phata; this is common road for Karjat, Matheran. Travel 12 km after chowk phata, you come to Karjat phata. A Love Story

03/11/2023

Every day, we discover something new about Rama... something new and horrid that brings to light, how excruciatingly painful the first 25 years of his life had been!

As this young pachyderm stands at the Elephant Hospital Campus, gaunt and emaciated, our veterinarians made a shocking discovery. Painful rope burns scar this gentle giant's body throughout! The most grievous among these burns lies at the base of his tail, that has now become infected, and oozes pus.

For elephants, this tail is an important body part, helping them maintain balance and communicate. However, for Rama, it is nothing short of constant agony... a testament to his traumatic past.

Our veterinarians have been worked tirelessly to heal Rama's injuries. To tackle the rope burn at the end of his tail, we have applied neem and turmeric water, and followed it up with antiseptic dressing. Through these measures, we hope to prevent any further infection of the area, as the skin heals slowly.

While there is still a long way to go, our medical team is doing its best to provide comfort to Rama. You can help too! To make a difference for this dear jumbo, please click on this link to donate! https://give.wildlifesos.org/page/136720/donate/1?ea.tracking.id=EleRamaSoc

SHACK CHRONICLES REVISITED
Chronicle # 19 - Day 4 of 7
Sat 9th June 2012
Written by Cathy Brown

Finally the day when Cristina was due to leave. Feeling both excited at going, as well as worried for her missing dogs, poor Cristina went looking for them at the nearby markets. However her search was unsuccessful.

During the morning, I went into town with some more eggs for the pups at the vet clinic, sitting back-pillon on a taxi motorcycle. The ride was both hair-raising and fun, zipping in and out of traffic. Thank goodness I did not fall off. Hardly any cars here in Puerto Maldonado, but gazillions of motorbikes everywhere!!! Cristina left for the airport that afternoon. I wished her all the very best for her trip.

SHACK CHRONICLES REVISITED
Chronicle # 19 - Day 2 of 7
Thu 7th June 2012
Written by Cathy Brown

After a good night of sleep I was served a lovely breakfast at the hostel, cooked by Leroy. However, the weather was still cold and damp. I did some exploration along the riverside of the Rio Madre de Dios where the hostel is situated. Interestingly, in a village by the river I could see many street/stray dogs hanging around and scrounging for food.

Later on that morning I officially moved into the Shack. Cristina and I then went to Dr. Boris’ clinic to see how the puppies were doing from a neglected case. We were very shocked to see Petalo’s brother, Jesus, still in a cage when he should have been rehomed the day before. Dr.Boris explained that the new owner had brought Jesus back that morning as the pup, when left alone, had cried all night. So we decided to take Jesus back with us to the Shack. He sure was happy to be reunited with his sister.

Unfortunately, both of the pups have come down with ringworm, so we went and bought treatment from a pharmacy which we commenced straight away.
