Learning must not stop, can't stop, won't stop🙌 Completed the Advanced Canine Behavioural Program with Canines Can Care Shirin Dhabhar - Dog Training and Behaviour

🙂Learning with Shirin is always insightful, eye-opening, and helps in skill-building. So here are 5 key learnings I took away from the program:

1. Building an in-depth understanding of noise sensitivity among dogs and how to tackle it.

2. Using analytical and mathematical skills to measure the progress of a behaviour program.

3. Learning complex psychology, reading subtle and difficult behaviours of canines

4. Building skills on how to look beyond the symptoms and treat the root cause of a problem

5. Dealing with aggression not just among dogs but also humans and working on real-time serious cases.

A good routine sets your dog up for success. Consistency in daily schedules trains your dog on what time to eat, sleep, play and go potty. Set a routine as soon as your dog comes home. Work the dogs schedule around your own to ensure you fill up their day with a balance of activity and rest time. Let us help you set a good routine for your dog.. A chew toy can’t be an interactive toy for your dog and vice versa. Every toy has a purpose that makes playing and interacting with it fun for your dog!
⭐CHEW TOYS – Are not easily destructible, so you can safely leave them around to chew as and when

⭐PLAY TOYS – Are what You play with your dog. Dogs love these toys because it involves YOU! So, once you’re done with a play session, stash it back in the box.

⭐INTERACTIVE TOYS – Are perfect to mentally stimulate your dog. Your dog works its mind and builds its confidence while playing with these toys. If left around, consider it destroyed!
Don’t just buy any toys, make it drive some value with your dog.

Our pets are our companions and we’d love to have them go with us everywhere. But doggie etiquettes are a must. No one likes a rude animal (Yes, they’re an animal to the rest of the world) or rude interruptions. First ensure that your dog is properly socialized, enjoys the company of other people, and doesn't mind crowds. If your dog is sensitive to a crowd or loud noise, try visiting the café during low traffic hours.

Things to Do:
✅ Walk your dog, before heading out. Ensure they poo/ p*e before entering a restaurant. It keeps them calmer.

✅Carry these things:

🦴 High value treats, chew sticks – because this is a high distraction environment

🧸Your dog’s favourite toy – again high value. A chew toy to keep them busy.

💧Water bottle/ bowl

🧻 Newspaper to clean up in case your dog has an accident

💠 Place mat for your dog to settle and indicate their space

✅ Most importantly, RELAX and have fun with your dog.

You’ll find your dog getting a lot of attention at a restaurant with friendly petting from strangers or treats too. Politely refuse and advocate for your dog’s space.

Your puppy hasn’t learned to apply commands in all situations, with different people, different times of the day, outside the house, in the elevator, etc.

This is called PROOFING - Making a command fail proof. Most common complaints I get as a professional dog trainer are:
- My dog only listens to a command in one place
- Listens to you, or any one person, but not all of us at home

It’s because the command hasn’t been proofed. Pet Parents this is where you can help your puppy nail the commands everywhere.
Start small in a situation with the least distractions. Get everyone in the house involved with talking to the puppy. Give your pup a chance to learn and succeed in various situations. Need a guided plan on making your puppy comfortable with commands in every situation?

Let’s talk… DM to book a consult or WhatsApp on 9930448882.

Hats Off to those that put so much effort into building great bonds with their pets. There's a lot of work that goes behind a "Wow, What a great dog!" "So well behaved, doesn't bark at all"

Thank you wisedog for putting this so well!

Recall.. Recall.. Recall.. one of the most important commands you could ever teach your pet. Something that I am currently working on with here. You can control your dog, but you cannot control the environment. Life-threatening situations, wild cat chases, other reactive dogs are just few of the many situations where a good RECALL helps. It gives your dog more freedom to be itself and enjoy a better, safer experience.

Puppy is home!!🤩 Now what should you do?

☝Start with toilet training… Take your pup straight to the place you want it to p*e/ poo. P*e mats are effective, but so are used clothes, rags, newspapers - be eco-friendly.
(Check with the shelter, foster home, breeder what surface did the pup previously p*e on)

✌ Don't let your pup meet anyone for at least 1 week! I know you want to share this joy with the world, but it’s overwhelming for a pup to enter this environment. So, advocate for your puppy, and restrict the meetings.

👌 Establish up a routine. Figure out your schedule, understand your puppy’s schedule and marry the two. Setting up a routine is crucial, because discipline and training starts day 1.

Confused how to set up a routine or puppy train? Need help? DM Dogknowswhy to book a consult.

P.S: Meeting the vet is probably the first step you’ve already done, before your pup is home 😊

"Encounter with Mr.Buzo
I met buzo for the 1st time in Aurangabad when I and my dad decided to do a raod trip and bring him home to Mumbai. My dad regularly visited Aurangabad for work and on one sich trip he met Buzo. He was a bigger than usual pup for his age and there was something adorable about him that my dad just fell in love with.

After coming home, he went on and on about how cute is that Labrador and we absolutely should bring him home. So we decided to drive down and bring him to Mumbai. It was 10pm in the night and Buzo who was 3months old now, lived with his father in the kennel. Both the boys, lived like tarzans in a bachelor pad of their own, totally uncivilized and hyper energetic. The moment he saw us, he started running around and jumping and my 1st thought was 'how am i going to be in the backseat with this huge dog for 8-10hours?!'

Next morning we went to pick him up and I learnt, this giant pup is scared of climbing stairs and that was my first 'aww moment🧡'.

The moment he managed to get in the car, he p**ped so the aww... was followed by disgust as I've never raised dogs or babies so my experience with handling p**p was limited unlike now.

So, yeah that was that! The road trip started and I realised what a cuddly lil baby this giant really is and we have been buddies for like 14years.

BUZO's 1.5 decade made me an emotionally intelligent and humane human being. From the moment I met him, till the moment he left us, he was always there for me and everyone in the house involved in every small conversations, quarrels and activities. We are still trying to fill the void he left us with one day at a time but if given a choice, I would go to Aurangabad all over again and bring him home."

Meet Miri aka Kalimiri aka Kraken! Mallika Mulherkar thank you for sharing your love story with Dogknowswhy 💓💓

“I met Miri, or Kalimiri, drowning in the gutter amidst torrential rains at my bungalow in Goa. I heard a squeak at intervals but couldn't see much at 1.30 in the night. An hour later, I couldn't take it and ventured.

I thought I was looking for a rat drowning and instead found a small puppy that looked like a rat. Her mom and brother live outside my house and I didn't put two and two together because both of them are really gorgeous looking and then there was this rat.

Since being an independent pet owner, I've been a crazy cat lady and have 3 of them so I was hesitant about keeping a dog at home. Miri's mom rejected her as a puppy although she loved being around her. So basically, Miri grew up with two different species of moms!

I tried to get her adopted but no one wanted this "not good looking Kulfi coloured" dog. I am an animal lover but having more animals than humans in your house is a bit much. Somehow, she snuck into my heart and made a steady home there.

Because she had two species bringing her up, she is an anxious dog. She's scared of everything. And yet, when I'm around her she wants to fight everything. Hence the name Miri because she is fiery and feisty. Her growing up phases gave her more names. Land shark, the destroyer, Dobby- she loves personal clothing – Underwear especially!! And my favourite, Kraken. Because every time I open my door I say “Release the Kraken” and she runs.

She is a mix of a mongrel and hound, so all she wants to do is RUN!! She's changed my life more than I could have imagined. My cats let me sleep and laze, but Miri has a schedule and if I don’t stick to it, the destroyer happens.

She makes me brave; she protects me and also my home. She doesn't get along with the cats so my home is divided with the dog space and cat space. She's not much of a cuddler, I go to my cats for love. But she loves a hug and slobbery kisses. I'm still getting used to that one! My life's taken a complete turn because of the Kraken. I can't imagine life without her now.”

.eo0 the American Bully is a loving puppy! Challenge wasn't how to train him? The Challenge was how to get over this cuteness and affection 😍 but we got to training eventually. Here's working with Oreo and his petparent on the STOP command - an absolute life saving command in situations you need it.

: Mankind and canine have built an undeniable bond over centuries. This flooffball simply wants petting, attention and affection. No treats, no food in sight, simple belly rubs and scritches does the trick. Lo and behold you're bonding! I really wish more people, parents, children developed compassion to see how easy it is to coexist.

PS⚠️: Please do not randomly touch dogs or strays when you meet them. Ask a professional canine trainer on how to approach dogs. This took a few hours of developing trust with the pups, before they let me play.
