Hear me out!
Dogs and humans are complex creatures, and their bond even more so. Our relationship with our dogs has its ups and downs. But social media, just like everything else, has a tendency of making us feel like we are lacking.
We are constantly bombarded with the image of how our dogs are like a miraculous solution to all our sadness. They are our “therapy on four legs”. They are supposed to be the source of all our happiness.
So we feel guilty when we get angry at our dogs. When we want them out of our sight , even if it’s just for a minute, we feel like we failed as pet parents/owners.
But to be honest, dogs sometimes just suck.
And it’s absolutely okay to feel frustrated with them. It’s okay to have days where you don’t think of your dog as a bundle of joy but an absolute nuisance instead. It’s okay to want space from your dogs at times.
I know you love your dog, but it’s okay to not like them sometimes.

Working dogs to me is an ode to that relationship, where every dog-human team gives homage to our ancestors for blessing us with this relationship.

I lost this boy on the 16th of March in 2021. That was a devastating night followed by a devastating day because the news of my naani passing away came along with the morning sun.
Bambam’s been on my mind a lot this week. He was my first Malinois, a gift. He was supposed to be my “f**k around and find out” dog. And oh boy, did he teach me things. I’d be happy to go on about that endless list. But, this post isn’t about Bambam.
This post is about grief and how it universally binds us, especially the grief of losing an animal companion: a best friend, a working partner, a beloved pet. We cry at the death of animals in movies; we sympathize with strangers on the internet when they talk about their pet’s passing.
Grief binds us in its pain and sorrow. Grief binds us all in the joy of having known and experienced love so deep that you couldn’t possibly put it into enough words.
Grief is the scars we carry on our heart, to be felt even long after they have healed. It’s a tribute to the memories we made and the impact our pets have had on our lives.
Grief is the price we pay for love.

Hugo’s last day with us before he heads back home tomorrow ❤️

8 month old Hugo , is here with us for a specialised 15 day Board and Train.
Over the next two weeks, we will be working with Hugo to curb his excessive jumping on humans. Prong collar introduction to stop pulling on the leash and stopping his play biting.
We are going to also work on his engagement during obedience and proofing basic commands.

Environmental Exposure Part 2 : For today's morning meal, the pups had to overcome a minor obstacle I.e climbing into the box for their food. I also induced a minor stress inducing element I.e the box moving. Low level stress inducing stimulus are introduced to the pups while they are feeding so that their first experience with the stimulus already has a positive association. We will keep levelling up the stimulus as the pups grow slightly older. I could say " I'm so proud of this girl" every single day and it wouldn't come anywhere close to how immensely proud she makes me. This was some of the work we did on the #BiteNight hosted by @titaniumk9s and Ivy's first time working in an environment like this. Chasing the decoy through dark corridors ( of camera), climbing up the narrow staircase which was blocked by the cardboard boxes and engaging with the decoy with absolute confidence ( even after a moment of initial hesitation at the bottom of the steps ). This girl is an absolute badass when it comes to handling environmentals and her commitment to the bite is inspiring. Eagerly waiting to see how she develops as she matures further.
