Adoption Alert Pune: Two cute pups are looking for their forever home! Sisters Milly and Lilly were found all by themselves on a busy road. A kind human took them in when they were just a month young and has been fostering them since. Remarkably, they have received no leads. But the pups deserve so much better. They fun, happy dogs who enjoy human company and are good with other dogs.
They are eating well, sleeping like babies and playing like puppies! They would make any home complete.
This is a great time to adopt a pup with summer vacation going on. There are plenty of benefits for children to grow up with dogs as they learn empathy, kindness and respect from a very young age. So bring Milly and Lilly home! To adopt in Pune and nearby, please contact Swati on 8411844559

I feel the kids are going to be okay. Our schools are doing an incredible job at helping the next generation be aware of realities and taking steps to raise a generation that is kind, emphatic and respectful of all beings.

Today, a special lecture was organised by Kalmadi High School on animal welfare for 6th and 8th grade students. They have a Marathi lesson about animals and the school’s focus is on sustainability. So this topic fit perfectly. I thought I was speaking to a class but was led to the school’s auditorium with 500 students in attendance.

It went like a dream! We didn’t have enough time to answer everyone’s questions but they have already emailed me to ask their doubts! Children are naturally curious and kind and huge kudos to teachers and principal of KHS in organising today’s session so they continue to do so.

Thank you Shreya for helping out and taking these photos 😊

One report of a dog attack in one part of the country is enough for societies to condemn the existence of all dogs. Such a response is not just dangerous to dogs but also dangerous to us!

As a country, we have lived with dogs for thousands of years! They hold a special place in our culture and our religion.

Several scientific studies have also shown the benefits of having a dog around.

So why are they getting so much hate?
Why are they being targeted by mass media?
Why are they being forced to pay the price for just living?

And the bigger question is - are dogs just a distraction from not solving the actual problems we are facing?

Deaths caused due to road accidents is 8 times that caused by dogs. Yet we see little improvement in public safety, infrastructure, civic sense.

Deaths by su***de is also more than 8 times. We condemn the system whenever we hear about one in the news. But what are we doing to promote mental fitness? As a community, society, and state we can do so much more to help individuals.

Deaths by asthma are nearly 10 times! But where are the solutions to reducing pollution levels? We cut trees to make space for more cars. We are literally building cities for cars, and not for living beings.

I am not touching the snakes because they are in a similar space as dogs. It is not their fault the deaths are happening.

We have to do better to coexist - and that starts with conversations. Instead of just blaming dogs for all the problems, we need to see the real problems around and within us to help have a better tomorrow.

Dogs on the streets has been quite a controversial discussion over the past years. In this webinar, we’ll go through the life of street dogs from their eyes, from the eyes of people who care for them and from the eyes of those who are afraid.
Dogs impact humans in so many ways. How can we make sure we coexist? How can we see beauty in others? How can we help those who may or may not be of any utility to us? Lots to chat in this special webinar for (not just for US audience. This webinar is for all who love dogs and want to know more about the lives of free living dogs in india!)

Besides the few “incidents” put out in the news, most of the country is full of people and dogs who live together in harmony.
We need to highlight such scenarios more and more to help people see dogs for who they are and not be fooled by biased media reporting.

Adoption appeal Delhi NCR: This is Brownie. He's 2 years old, male, neutered and fully vaccinated. He hasn't had the best of lives so far but he is making the most of it. He was abandoned as a pup with his sibling who unfortunately died. Since then, he's been living in different boardings. With no adopter in sight, poor brownie is currently living in a shelter, a life he doesn’t deserve. Brownie wants people to call him their own, a family who will love him to no end.
Brownie is open for adoption in Delhi NCR. The adopters will receive all support to make sure he adjusts in your house. To adopt brownie, email [email protected] or DM

Adoption Alert Pune: A young 1-1.5 year old labrador was found by herself on a busy road in Pune. Found by a volunteer, she has been in foster care for the past two weeks. Despite a lot of attempts to find her family, no one has come forward :(

The poor dog, now named Eva, absolutely loves people. She seems to be getting along with other female dogs well.

She is overall in great health, has been vaccinated and dewormed as well. She is fit and agile. Eva hasn't been spayed yet, mainly because we don't know when she will be coming on heat. We will require the adopters to sign a contract to get her neutered without mating her.

To enquire about Eva's adoption, please WhatsApp on 9049056193

Today is supposedly national dog day (not sure for which country but never miss a chance to celebrate dogs), so using it as an opportunity to share some wonderful news!

Later this year, I’ll be in Asheville, North Carolina speaking at LEGS in Motion Conference in December!

There are many other cool speakers and will be an extremely educational moment for me hearing all of them speak about dogs.

Our street dogs have changed my life and I feel my talk will be a tribute to them. A plea to understand them better, to care better and see how we can take some of their teachings to improve the quality of our lives.

Because of dogs I’ve received great love and sometimes hatred with dire consequences. But the free living dogs have definitely made my life worth living.

Tickets and more details - www.legsinmotionconference.com

It’s a bit complicated to buy virtual zoom tickets from India so if you can’t, I’ll be happy to help 🙂

Thank you to Kim and the conference organisers for giving me this space to introduce and deep dive into our community dogs ❤️

04/08/2023

One of the most stressful situations for a dog is at the vets. No matter how much you "train" your dog to the vet, it is an environment full of stress chemicals from other stressed, injured and sick animals. And there is nothing we can do to avoid it.

So we can do the next best thing. Minimise the time spent there. Many busy vets require us to wait for anything between 10-30 minutes for our turn. Being in a small room with other stressed animals is a recipe for disaster.

Stress is something which affects our dog's health (and our health too!) so it helps to reduce stress as much as possible.

The best way is to wait outside the clinic in the car, or nearby, or on a sniffing walk and only enter once it is your turn.

This is helpful for all dogs but super important if you have a dog who is already anxious or has had a negative experience at the clinic.

Making such simple changes can have such a profound positive impact on the welfare of your dog. For any assistance DM :)
