Feline scabies, or sarcoptic mange, is a skin condition caused by the parasitic mite Sarcoptes scabiei. These microscopic mites burrow into the skin of cats, causing irritation, inflammation, and intense itching.The primary symptom of feline scabies is severe itching, which leads to scratching, licking, and biting of the affected areas. As the condition progresses, cats may develop hair loss, crusty skin lesions, redness, and thickened skin. The ears, face, neck, and underside of the body are commonly affected areas.
Feline scabies is highly contagious and can spread through direct contact with an infected cat or contaminated bedding, grooming tools, or environment. Outdoor cats, stray cats, and those living in crowded conditions are at higher risk of contracting the disease.
Diagnosis is typically made based on clinical signs, history of exposure, and microscopic examination of skin scrapings to identify mites or their eggs. In some cases, a skin biopsy may be performed for confirmation.
Treatment usually involves topical medications such as selamectin, fipronil. It's essential to follow the veterinarian's instructions carefully and complete the full course of treatment to ensure eradication of the mites.
Additionally, it's crucial to treat all cats in the household, even if they don't show symptoms, and thoroughly clean and disinfect the environment to prevent reinfestation. Regular parasite prevention measures, such as using flea and tick preventatives, can also help reduce the risk of feline scabies.

A female cat weighing 3.7 kg was brought to us with an enlarged/distended stomach, initially suspected of pregnancy but unable to give birth. Upon examination in our OPD at , it was diagnosed as an infection of the uterus (Pyometra), which was alarming. We decided to proceed with emergency surgery. The uterus was found filled with pus (Pyometra), weighing approximately 500 grams. The feline is now safely recovering. 🐱

First Operation of the day AURAL HAEMATOMA, It usually occurs as a result of trauma to the ears. Excessive head shakes, bitings can lead to it. Esp for long eared dogs it is a common problem. Detection in early stages is important to avoid rupture, Vet Check Up are essential and should be done regularly every 3-4 months.
