Good Morning,
The Lansdown House will be taking a break from messages and helping with rescues for a little bit. Paige has to undergo a few operations and have a some rest & recovery.
After countless trips to vets over the years it’s Paige’s turn for some treatment and TLC and for her dogs to take care of her 😉💗🐕🐾

Paige will be back as soon as possible to help in anyways she can. In the meantime if you can foster / adopt / help please join TNR ITALY if in Italy or SOS Italian Setters if you’re in the UK x

*** So sad 😭 Last chance*** Obra is unfortunately going back to living on a rope outside up in the mountains 😞 We haven’t anyone come forward to her and her current foster will not keep her. They are loading her up as we speak. Can anyone step in and help??

One for the oldies now 🤍 We need a quiet foster for her, she’s 8 years old and enjoys her own company.

First night in safe foster care ❤️ Has taken to the family so well! Their daughter has been an absolute diamond and so kind to him and Little Nacho has a new foster dog Mum amoungst the family who he’s following around 💗💗 Beautiful, so grateful to Mistie & Family xx

This guy!! OMG doesn’t this face just fill you with absolute joy!! Made my morning seeing this!! His face is brilliant 😃😃🤣

Little Nacho is on the way to foster care after spending 24 hours in the vets to get rid of any critters 🐜 Little Nacho has one THE best foster homes and we won’t settle for less when it comes to a an adoption family.

Did I mention the Vet said Little Nacho is only 8 weeks old… Can he be any cuter!!!

Pupdate *** This little Nacho (we have no name yet) has been found again 👏 He is now at the vets receiving treatment and assessment. Little Nacho will travel to foster care tomorrow 😮‍💨Phew !!!! Thank goodness!!! He is one lucky pup!!!! Thank you to Giuliana and Mistie, Heros !!

**Pupdate: Puppy is still on the street but our rescuer is going to go back and pick him up. Pray the little one is still there. We have a new wonderful fosterer lined up ready to house him and get him vet checked/assessed on support site. You’re help is greatly appreciated!!

The foster has dropped out last minute !!! Can anyone foster this pup at suppor site?? The rescuer picked him up off the road when the foster said she’d help but has now pulled out for an unknown reason 😕 Dog now sitting in car with no place to go!

THis little cutie has just been saved from the streets and on the way to foster care on Support site 💗 He is super cute! Puppies are not clean slates !
You often hear people say 'get a puppy they are a clean slate'

As a behaviourist and breeder I can confidently tell you this is not true. Both nature and nurture has a huge impact.
A puppy will inherit genes from its parents and these genes will impact the puppies genetic potential to behave in a particular way.
Such as :
Using aggression as a strategy to deal with difficult situations
Sociability towards people and dogs
Fearful responses
Sound sensitivity
Strong instinctive behaviour to hunt, chase, grab, hold and guard.
Trainability which includes the ability to learn self control as humans desire it.

When people breed dogs they sometimes select for specific traits and sometimes not. If someone is breeding for a particular look, colour or just money then these traits can become altered becoming stronger or weaker or unbalanced. This can make a dog dangerous for example breeding a dog with gameness and reducing human sociability.

Then the puppy is born and the first 8 weeks learning with the breeder will have an huge impact on the development of all these genetic traits.

My five puppies have all come from the same parents and been reared in the same environment. They have very individual personalities. The training and socialisation they receive in their new homes will only influence the genes and first learning, it won't change their personalities.

So if you are looking for a puppy
Firstly learn about breed traits and instincts and make sure you pick a puppy that will suit your lifestyle. For example there no point getting a breed that is 'aloof with strangers' if you have 3 young children and lots of friends visiting.

Secondly meet the parents or (genes), see what they are like. Make sure you are meeting the actual parents, some people buy in puppy farmed litters and then 'hire' an adult of the same breed to pretend the puppies were bred there!!

Thirdly make sure the puppy has had plenty of early neurological stimulation and learning before it leaves the litter. Ask these questions.
1) What have the puppies seen?
2) Who and what have they met?
2) What have they learnt?
3) How have they learned to play?
4) What do they do if they get frustrated?
5) What do they do if they get bored?

A professional trainer can help support and guide you on the process of looking for a puppy. Don't wait till afterwards for help.

Prevention IS better than Cure. This goes for training and socialisation too, get a professional to help and guide you.

Puppies are building neural pathways with every experience, every day, make sure they're building ones you like.

First Learning is the strongest, make sure you get it right first time.

I’ve been hearing these, in my opinion ridiculous comments far to often…

I’ve just bought a Malinos cross Akita puppy…

I’ve just bought a working line… We live in an appartment and work full time

I can leave it in a crate whilst I’m at work…

I don’t know anything about the breed before I bought one…

No the breeder didn’t ask me many questions

No I didn’t have a home check…

I didn’t see my puppies parents at the breeder

The Lansdown House have set an hugely ambitious goal in the attempt to fund raise for Hero paws - Life AFTER service !! Below is some information and a link for any donations to help the course! 🐾😃🐕 !!!!

Hero Paws is a registered charity that supports all services that employ working dogs, from Military and Police to civilian sectors such as HMPS, Security, Conservation and Search roles.

Hero Paws offer an unbiased process that aids all dogs to retire whether that be from failed training, unable to meet their current training standards or they have come to the end of their service.
They offer to help bridge the gap from service to general population, to search for and rehome to the perfect home.
Hero Paws offer continued support and guidance to make sure these dogs live out the retirement they deserve.

Hero Paws ultimate goal is to set up a sanctuary/complex where ex working service dogs can be cared for and trained so they can eventually find their perfect forever home.
They endeavour to match the right dog with the right home, no matter how long it takes

Many people are unaware that retired service dogs do not receive financial support in their retirement from the force they served with, meaning the responsibility for their care and vet bills fall solely to their ex-handler or new owner.
Sometimes unable or at great expense to get pet insurance due to their working life, many are left with ongoing vet bills which can amount to thousands.

Hero Paws provides much needed financial support to these unsung dog heroes and their owners to enable them to have a long and happy retirement.

Dogs don’t HAVE to meet other dogs…
You are NOT a bad owner if your dog finds dog parks overwhelming
It is OKAY for you to choose which dogs your dog interacts with
No dog is perfect and you’ll find unless you train your dog 6 hours per day everyday, it never will, and guess what, that’s okay.
Don’t dog shame anyone… It’s the dogs that suffer.

And finally, trust your instincts. Advocate for your dog 🐕

I think that’s all of them… 🐾 Something you may not know… The Lansdown House was created as a space I could log, write and process some of the cruelty I was seeing on a daily basis, a diary if you like. I never thought it would gain so much support. Your support gave me the confidence to be involved with as many animals as possible, it pushed me to try and inspire as many people as possible to get involved and to really raise awareness to the fact you can, even on the smallest scale make a huge difference. Thank you to all of you 🙏

Do you want to be involved?

The Lansdown House isn’t just about wild crazy rescues and fostering lots of animals, (though there were a few 😅) it was also connecting people, supporting new fosterers, reuniting lost pets to owners, donating, emergency vet trips, home checks, advice. Small things as well as big which we can definitely all get involved with 🙂🐾🐕🐈 We even had a lovely lady who was extremely allergic to cats, yet managed to take many strays to be neutered and releasing them. 👏

If you are able to donate 50p to a rescue charity, drive a few miles to taxi an animal to a vet, give emotional support to fosterer or even foster yourself, then please do not hesitate to get involved. Message me anytime, I’m happy to guide you on how you can help!

Food for thought… Royal Canin… Premium prices… Recommended by many vets… Personal opinion, if I walk into a vets and they’re selling/advocating Royal Canin, I walk out.

Mars Inc has recently had a lawsuit filed against it as its product Skittles contains a known toxin called titanium dioxide which renders the product unfit for human consumption.

Human consumer products have higher regulations on its ingredients than animal products…

COPIED BECAUSE IT’S TOO BRILLIANT NOT TO.

The other day I was at the local public park (not a dog park, but dogs are allowed there). We were walking along in a high movement area so I had my dog on a leash. Another dog, off leash, sees us and starts approaching.
My dog needs her space so we start moving away, but the dog got to us before we could leave. My dog was stressing a little so I politely said to the woman, sorry my dog doesn't want to play and ushered her dog away.
Her dog gets the message and moves on.
Quite good, right? Here comes the juicy part:
As I’m leaving the owner comes to me with a speech more or less like this:
Hey, if your dog is nervous and doesn’t even want to play with other dogs, go somewhere else! Don’t come to the park and ruin other dogs fun.
I heard this and a wave of fury started taking over, but suddenly I think I had a lightbulb moment and switched gears completely.
With the biggest, friendliest smile, I opened my arms as wide as I could and said Ohhhhh! Come here... I want to give you a BIG hug!
With panic in her eyes, she backs up, speechless and quickly starts walking away.
I said "Hey, don’t run, I’m so friendly, come on, I only want to give you a hug! I’m friendly I promise... I just want to Hug You!"
Still speechless and backing away with terror now, I said "Wait, You don’t want my friendly hug?"
She yelled No!
I said "Well neither does my dog! Have a nice day.!!!"
As I walked away, I saw her just standing there, speechless and she was leashing her dog! 😅
I think I’ll try this approach more often 🤣

Yup… They even taped the box up 😑📦❌ daily occurrences like these should not be happening. It was shocking to see things like this still happen when only a few miles away is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Amazing what you don’t see from your hotel room.

Never much love for the black dogs 😞 This is it 😢 time is just about up. Only option is to go into a shelter… We are completely out of resources for Delilah…

LAST PLEA, if anyone can foster or would like to adopt please please please let me know ASAP. Location: Campania Italy

Delilah has been in foster care, a family home for over 6 months, and her fosterer who has been working so hard with her is posting (posting is a military term for moving jobs). The new posting does not allow dogs:

We have tried to find a foster or an adoptive family, the truth is black dogs are always the most difficult to rehome 😞 There personalities just don’t seem to translate well over social media.

Here’s some of the notes from her current foster who is absolutely distraught 😫

Meet Delilah she is a little over a year old & she is a Cane Corso Mix. She’a had a litter of pups. When I picked her up three weeks ago she was not in good health, an infection in her teats, cuts & underweight. She is now free of infection, been dewormed, flea treated, leishmaniosis tested ~negative~ & gaining weight nicely.

In the 3 weeks I’ve had her she is crate trained, house-trained, knows sit, lay down & give me her paw. We’re still learning stay, leave it & to walk nicely on a leash 😉 She plays fetch, she loves to run & play all day. She has a very silly/playful personality, loves belly rubs. She is looking for an active family, as she is very much a puppy herself. She needs tasks & things to keep her busy. She is very intelligent & catches on fast 🖤

Delilah gets along with kids, cats and other dogs with proper introductions. She has not shown any aggression towards anyone or anything on our walks.
