There is a memorial in London’s Hyde Park to honor their service. The memorial has two separate inscriptions. The first and larger one reads: “This monument is dedicated to all the animals that served and died alongside British and allied forces in wars and campaigns throughout time.”

The second, smaller inscription simply reads: “They had no choice.”

Close by, you can read these words:
Many and various animals were employed to support British and Allied Forces in wars and campaigns over the centuries, and as a result millions died. From the pigeon to the elephant, they all played a vital role in every region of the world in the cause of human freedom. Their contribution must never be forgotten.

It is estimated that as many as three quarters of a million adored pets were destroyed in the first week of World War 11 in Britain.

Dear Brandon,

My daughters were so excited to see PomPom on HONY today and we thought you'd be interested in the back story of why this dog is sitting on an uninstalled air conditioner in a newsstand.

We regularly take PomPom to the newsstand to reunite with her former owner. Doyle, 76, and legally blind, lived in a building on the same block of Lexington Avenue as the newsstand for 43 years until July, when the city evicted all the residents due to unsafe conditions.

Doyle wandered the streets with PomPom for several days before the owner of the newsstand called us to ask if we'd watch the dog because homeless shelters do not accept pets. I took Doyle to the Red Cross and NYC housing officials found him a temporary room in an SRO building across town. He asked us to adopt PomPom.

That's how we ended up as the new family for this 11-year-old dog. She loves seeing Doyle at the newsstand. We're thrilled you documented her pose atop the air conditioner.

ODI

Odi è un piccolo sh*tzu di 2,5 anni che ha sempre vissuto in casa, purtroppo a causa di gravi problemi familiari è necessario trovargli una nuova sistemazione. Odi è un cane piuttosto timido e spaventato, gli occorre un po’ di tempo prima di sciogliersi e farsi coccolare, al primo approccio può abbaiare e brontolare proprio a causa dei suoi timori. Con un po’ di pazienza si rivela un cagnolino coccolone, dolce e tanto bisognoso d’affetto, anche se un pochino introverso. Odi va d’accordo con cani e gatti, sa andare al guinzaglio e in macchina. Ha bisogno di un amico che gli infonda nuova fiducia e che pazienza gli faccia scoprire il mondo che non ha potuto apprezzare sino ad oggi. Verrà affidato nelle province di MI-MB-CO-VA, chippato, vaccinato e sterilizzato!

Rispetto al loro progenitore selvatico, il lupo, i cani domestici abbaiano molto, molto di più. Sono meno bravi ad ululare ma incomparabilmente più plastici nelle varie forme dell’abbaio....
