Manu update!🚨

Manu is taking small, cautious steps into a world he cannot see. After a lifetime of confinement and suffering, he is now venturing out for walks at our Elephant Hospital Campus (EHC), but every step is uncertain, every movement hesitant. Blind in both eyes, he relies entirely on his caregiver to guide him, to help him navigate an unfamiliar space.

Each walk is not just about movement- it’s about trust. Trust that the hands leading him now mean safety, not suffering.

Manu’s journey is long, and he cannot take these steps alone. You can help provide the dedicated care he needs, sponsor his healing at https://give.wildlifesos.org/page/121477/donate/1

Murphy, a disabled Bald Eagle, became famous after attempting to hatch a rock at his sanctuary. In 2023, the keepers made a life-changing decision, replacing the rock with an orphaned 1-week-old eaglet, rescued after a storm destroyed its nest. The goal was for Murphy to raise the eaglet and prepare it for a future release into the wild.
Despite losing the ability to fly due to an injury, Murphy’s nurturing instincts were clear. Recognizing his potential, the sanctuary gave him the opportunity to become a real parent.
The bond between Murphy and the eaglet was a success, with Murphy stepping into the role of a protective, loving father. His heartwarming story went viral, showcasing the profound emotional connections animals form and their ability to fulfill their natural instincts. Check out the full story about Murphy in the comments below:

🆘🙏 This is an SOS plea for foster homes. There are too many great dogs sitting and waiting at our two brick-and-mortar shelter spaces, and they are not getting the visibility or experience they need to flourish and find forever homes.

We are seeking fosters who fit one or more of the criteria below:

🌟Have no other pets. Some dogs are either not pet-friendly or need a calm space to decompress from extended shelter stays.

🌟 Live outside NYC. We accept and transport up to four hours surrounding the city. Some dogs struggle to cope with city life.

🌟 Are open to fostering a dog with leash reactivity. We offer free virtual training for fosters through GoodPup which has helped countless fosters and adopters.

Many of our dogs have been waiting at our Centers for extended periods, and they need support in order to transition to a forever family. Fostering provides invaluable support to organizations like ours and gives us a better idea of a dog’s true personality once they’re out of a shelter environment.

Become a foster hero and let our foster team match you with a dog at: nycscr.org/foster

TOP RATED PUPPY NEEDS YOU AND SOME MEDICAL ATTENTION!

TATOR is just a baby girl who loves to be affectionate and snuggle. Sadly she came in from St. Albans, when she was found lying in the road by a Good Samaritan. Thinking she was hit by a car, Tator’s finder mistakenly gave her acetaminophen to help her feel better, which as you know, can be toxic to dogs. Thankfully Tator is showing no signs of toxicity, and she has no obvious trauma from the car. She does appear to be have a severe skin infection which could be due to neglect and/or an underlying allergy. The medical team feels that Tator would benefit from a dermatology consultation and she may require on going care for skin allergies, adding that at this stage it's hard to determine the inciting event. Can you help this cutie pie feel better? She has been friendly throughout her stay, and has earned the shelter’s best behavior rating. Please message our page today to help Tator!

We have no history on Tator so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We want to say a few things...

Firstly, we want to ask everyone to share Rory. At 11 months old, Rory has been in our care for months. Two weeks ago, she was adopted and returned a week later when the adopter noted personal issues he failed to disclose during our adoption process.

This weekend, Rory was adopted again. She was returned three hours later.

We are feeling a lot of conflicting emotions about this, but, above all else, we would rather Rory be safe and loved with us than be somewhere she’s not wanted. Full stop.

We do not want negative comments about the adopters or the situation; we know it all and we will not waste another moment dwelling on this. We need to realign our focus on finding Rory a true, committed, honest, loving home. She is a wonderful dog who deserves someone who will cherish her as much as we do.

Lastly, we want to thank the team at our LIC Center for immediately preparing to welcome Rory back by showing up to walk her, feed her, take care of her, and ease her stress.

Sometimes, it is hard to see the forest for the trees. When that happens, we take a step back, grab a leash, take a walk, feel the rain on our skin, and get back to work.

Rory is 11 months old, 45 pounds, great with dogs and cats, loves to play, learns quickly, and adaptable in public settings. She’s still a puppy at heart and some basic training will go a long way in boosting her confidence.

If you are looking for love in a rescue dog with chunky paws, floppy ears, and an abundance of love to share, we may have found your match in Rory. Bring Rory home at https://nyc-scr.org/rory
