Some human beings are complete and utter trash and then some are just super heroes

Hello I'm a bat...
I don't suck your blood and I won't get tangled in your hair.
If I happen to enter your house, please don't hit me with bats or squash me out; it hurts a lot and on such occasions I'm very scared. It was an accident and I didn't mean to scare you.
If I land, I may not be able to get up and I need your help. Just grab a towel and pull me out carefully. I'll fly right away, I promise.
I feed on mosquitoes and many other insects.
Our houses are being demolished to build other buildings and we still have a few places to go. So if I'm flying in your space, turn off the lights and leave the outside light on with the door open, I'll be out shortly.

We want to share an update with you on Gertie and Heidi. A few days ago, we asked for your help in saving two dogs who were thrown on the streets after their owner died. The dogs were left to fend for themselves and found safety under the porch of the house they once called home.

We rushed them to a critical care hospital. Heidi was in good shape compared to Gertie, who was suffering back-end paralysis, most likely from an injury. The doctors did an MRI where they were able to identify disc compression in her spine and immediately set her up for surgery.

Surgery was completed, and Gertie remains hospitalized. MSU is providing daily rehab and Gertie has made some small improvements.

With any spinal surgery, the recovery is often slow. Today, Gertie moved her back legs ever so slightly, and we can’t begin to express how excited we were to hear this.

Her recovery will take weeks, and we hope that we see improvement with every passing day. We have set Gertie up for four weeks of in-house rehab. Her bill is already at 11k, and we need your support.

We want to thank everybody who has donated towards their care. We couldn’t do this without you. Your support is immeasurable to animals in need.

CRACKING OPEN A WINDOW DOES NOT HELP!
Despite the warnings, hundreds of dogs in the U.S. die every year after being left in a hot car. Someone you know may need to read this very important message. ⚠️🚙⚠️
SIX MINUTES is all it takes for a dog to overheat in a hot car.
Your dog could suffer serious injury or die in a matter of minutes if left alone in a car.
• The temperature inside a closed vehicle left in the sun can double within 12 minutes.
• At least 75% of the temperature increase in a closed vehicle occurs within 5 minutes of closing the vehicle, and at least 89% of the temperature increase occurs within 15 minutes of closing the vehicle.
• Temperatures exceeding 104˚ F can lead to death or serious injury for the occupants.
• Temperatures in a closed vehicle sitting in the hot sun can reach 160˚F and above. An animal will suffer immeasurably and may die before the temperature reaches 150˚F.
• Even when parked in the shade, the vehicle temperatures can exceed 104˚C.
• Leaving windows down more than 2 inches on an unattended vehicle will not prevent a car from reaching extreme temperatures.
• Even if the animal is revived, they can die due to severe internal organ damage.
Your dog trusts you to have their best interest at heart ALWAYS.
Please don’t risk their safety.
If you are not taking your dog inside your destination with you, PLEASE leave them at home where they are comfortable and safe.

We want to share the wonderful news that Callie, the German Shepherd from Queens forced to live outside, has been ADOPTED! 🎉💖

A week after we posted Callie’s story, we were able to secure a foster home for her and went back to retrieve her. We took Callie to our vet partners and scheduled a dental for the 18th. She landed in her foster on the 19th, and by the 20th, adoption papers were signed. It was love at first sight.💕

Thank you all for cheering us on as we worked to find a solution to Callie’s situation. As a nonprofit, our success relies on the support of our community, whether that comes in the form of monetary donations, volunteer efforts, or our fostering network. In fact, it’s a culmination of all three of these support systems that keep us afloat.🤝🤲

To take the next step and become a Foster Hero with our organization, please visit our website and apply. Why do we do it? 🐾♥️
