Amazing

Great horned owl rescued a few days ago. Her wing was caught in a barbed wire fence, and she thrashed around to free herself just enough to cause significant soft tissue damage. The Good Sam homeowner said this was the first owl she'd ever seen, and she was understandably very upset. It was disturbing, for sure. I told her that I'd seen hundreds of very damaged wild birds. But the thing that makes me most upset is knowing that some birds have been illegally shot, or ignored even when their car or their dog or their outside cat caused the damage, or sick/injured due to rodent poison or glue traps.
Anyhow, without the homeowners help, I could not have freed the owl alone. She was extremely brave, followed my request and cut the barbed wire on both sides of the elbow (where the wire was totally enmeshed with some feathers and skin) while I held the owl. We were very careful to avoid the snapping back of the wire. We were fine.
This poor owl has been vet-checked, back tomorrow for re-assessment at Newburgh Veterinary Hospital. The hospital staff helped cut out the last inch of barbed wire. She's seriously injured but no fractures no infection body condition is otherwise excellent. TBD

How I became a Pet Nanny

Hello ...This is Teddy..My love of dogs started with my first Miniature Schnauzer when I was 12 years old. My parents got him so that I would not be lonely when my sister went to college! After studying with Lee Strasberg and at Julliard I embarked upon a career in the performing arts. Twenty years later when I got my beloved Mini Schnauzer Buddy (RIP) I realized there were a lot of options for pet care while I was working. He was bitten at a famous Day Care in Manhattan and ignored with walkers and sitters. I decided to become a Pet Nanny in NYC. Not a walker or sitter. A real dog nanny! Providing care the way YOU would. In 2010 I moved to New Paltz to attend the Vet Tech Program at SunyUlster. Earning an Associate Degree in Applied Science I learned veterinary medicine at a local SPCA. I believe in caring for our pets with the love they need while their parents are away
