Okinawa Hippotherapy

Okinawa Hippotherapy PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PAGE IS NO LONGER ACTIVE. PLEASE VISIT THE NEW PAGE AT: Horse Assisted Learning Okinawa. We are focused on the entire family involvement.

Okinawa hippotherapy is an all volunteer organization . We have volunteer therapists and horses to assist families of the American military in Okinawa as well as Okinawan children with disabilities. The whole family is encouraged to take part and be an active team member in learning how, what to do to assist them and how much their child can do . All siblings get opportunities to help, learn, an

d ride. We have seven horses, most of the are smaller in size. We work hard to train them. Families have an opportunity to engage in a recreational activity , involving the whole family guided by volunteers and people with horse experience. The children with disabilities are encouraged to be as independent as possible and become an active participant in all aspects of the program as able. We service children from age 1 -15
The program depends on the generosity of volunteers and potential donors to assist with costs. The program has managed to remain free and hope to keep it that way. We always need volunteers and assistance. We will train anyone interested in assisting with the program in any way. Contact us at the email address listed or message us directly here on facebook. Directions: To get to the stable take 58 north turn left on route 12 and go until it T's into 6. turn right at route six and follow six Past the Zanpa turn off ( do not turn toward Zanpa stay right). The road will wind downhill a little after Zanpa and runs along side of the ocean for short stretch. At the end of this stretch you will see a sign overhead with Onna Village, a tall apartment looking building on the right and coke machine. Turn right up on the small road after the coke machine and drive until you see the stables on the left, turn and park. Please be careful when looking at the horses as the one big horse with white might bite, and the smallest horse ( paint color) will nibble on your clothes.

Who we are and how you can participate!

Thank you for checking out Okinawa Hippotherapy!

Since 1995, we have specialized in providing therapeutic horseback riding for children with disabilities as an all-volunteer organization. Our program was founded by a loving group of women dedicated to our community and has evolved through out the years to better serve the families we work with.

Who can participate? The whole family is encouraged to take part in learning how to care for horses and the property on which they reside. While there is no age limit to who can help, we ask that all children under 10 years old have a parent with them to supervise as our limited volunteers are not responsible for any accidents that may happen at the barn. Families have an opportunity to engage in a recreational activity involving the whole family! New volunteers are always welcome!

How many horses are there? We have 5 horses; most of them are smaller in size. Over the years, we have worked hard to train them and while they are friendly, each horse (like any animal) has their quirks, likes, and dislikes.
