๐Ÿ™ (๐Ÿ“ธ: Xaime Beiro) These otherworldly creatures have three heartsโ€”one pumps blood through the body and the other two pump blood through the gills. Theyโ€™ve evolved a copper rather than iron-based blood called hemocyanin, which turns their blood BLUE! Octopuses are also highly intelligent. They are capable of maintaining short- and long-term memory, have been spotted indulging in sophisticated tool use, and have the capacity to recognize individual people!

PET CARE TIPS

1. Regular Exams are Vital

Just like you, your pet can get heart problems, develop arthritis, or have a toothache. The best way to prevent such problems or catch them early is to see your veterinarian every year.

Regular exams are the single most important way to keep pets healthy. Annual vet visits should touch on nutrition and weight control, as well as cover recommended vaccinations, parasite control, dental exam, and health screenings.

2. Spay and Neuter Your Pets

Eight million to 10 million pets end up in U.S. shelters every year. Some are lost, some have been abandoned, and some are homeless.

Hereโ€™s an easy way to avoid adding to that number โ€” spay and neuter your cats and dogs. Itโ€™s a procedure that can be performed as early as six to eight weeks of age.

Spaying and neutering doesnโ€™t just cut down on the number of unwanted pets; it has other substantial benefits for your pet. Studies show it also lowers the risk of certain cancers and reduces a petโ€™s risk of getting lost by decreasing the tendency to roam.

3. Prevent Parasites

Fleas are the most common external parasite that can plague pets, and they can lead to irritated skin, hair loss, hot spots, and infection. Fleas can also introduce other parasites into your cat or dog. All it takes is for your pet to swallow one flea, and it can to end up with tapeworms, the most common internal parasite affecting dogs and cats.

Year-round prevention is key. Regular flea and intestinal parasite control, as well as heartworm prevention in endemic areas is important.

Because some parasite medications made for dogs can be fatal to cats, talk to your vet about keeping your precious pets worm-free, flea-free โ€” and safe.

4. Maintain a Healthy Weight

Many dogs and cats are overweight or obese. And just like people, obesity in pets comes with health risks that include diabetes, arthritis, and cancer.

Overfeeding is the leading cause of obesity

ORNAMENTAL FISH DISEASES

The names commonly given to disease problems encountered by ornamental fish hobbyists, such as โ€˜dropsyโ€™, โ€˜pop-eyeโ€™, โ€˜fin rotโ€™ and so on, are mostly descriptions of symptoms rather than specific diseases. They may be caused by a wide range of disease agents, most of which are poorly understood. Although some diseases, such as White spot disease, can cause grossly visible signs in fish, the actual cause may not be determined without suitable training and the aid of a microscope, or other specialist diagnostic tests. A veterinarian should therefore be consulted for disease diagnosis, and gross signs alone should not be used to diagnose disease in fish.

What is Vescular stomatitis?
Vesicular stomatitis is a viral disease that affects not only horses, but also donkeys, mules, cattle, and pigs.

agent
V I U S____________
Rhabdoviridae ,genus.................visculovirus"

How is Transmission?

The virus is transmitted by insect vectors (gnats and biting flies). Once infected, the virus can be spread by animal-to-animal contact with saliva or fluid from blisters and contact with contaminated equipment or human hands.

signs

The main symptoms of vesicular stomatitis virus.

7๏ธโƒฃ Mastitis

vesicular stomatitis includes isolating new horses on a premises for 3 weeks, avoiding contact with new horses at events, cleaning equipment regularly, feeding horses with individual buckets, insect control, and monitoring and separating horses with any signs of illness.

Lungworm

An infection of the lower respiratory tract, usually resulting in bronchitis or pneumonia, can be caused by any of several parasitic nematodes, including Dictyocaulus viviparus in cattle, llamas, and alpacas; D filaria in goats, sheep, llamas, and alpacas; D eckerti in deer; D arnfieldi in donkeys and horses

Species of Dictyocaulus belong to the superfamily Trichostrongyloidea and have direct life cycles.
Clinical Findings:

Signs of lungworm infection range from moderate coughing with slightly increased respiratory rates to severe persistent coughing and respiratory distress and even failure. Reduced weight gains, reduced milk yields, and weight loss accompany many infections in cattle, sheep, and goats. Patent subclinical infections can occur in all species.

The most consistent signs in cattle are tachypnea and coughing. Initially, rapid, shallow breathing is accompanied by a cough that is exacerbated by exercise. Respiratory difficulty may ensue, and heavily infected animals stand with their heads stretched forward and mouths open and drool. The animals become anorectic and rapidly lose condition. Lung sounds are particularly prominent at the bronchial bifurcation. In adult dairy cattle, milk yield drops severely, and abnormal lung sounds are heard over the caudal lobes. The reinfection phenomenon in adult dairy cattle is usually seen in the fall; although less severe than in initial infections, the signs are widespread coughing and tachypnea and a marked drop in milk yield.

Diagnosis:

Diagnosis is based on CLINICAL SIGN, EPIDEMIOLOGY, presence of first-stage larvae in f***s, and necropsy of animals in the same herd or flock. BRONCHOSCOPY and RADIOGRAPHY may be helpful. LARVAE are not found in the f***s of animals in the prepatent or postpatent phases and usually not in the reinfection phenomenon (D viviparus). ELISA tests are available in some countries. The test is mainly of use in detecting cattle that have not been exposed, rather than as a differential diagnostic tool in acute respiratory disease. In the early stages of an outbreak, larvae may be few in number. First-stage larvae or larvated eggs can be recovered using most f***l flotation techniques with the appropriate salt solutions; however, larvae will crenate if allowed to sit for a long time on the slide before examination, making identification difficult.

Control:

Lungworm infections in herds or flocks are controlled primarily by vaccination or anthelmintics. Oral vaccines are available in Europe for D viviparus (northeastern areas) and D filaria (southeast). Two doses of irradiated infective larvae are given 4 wk apart, with the second dose given at least 2 wk before the start of grazing or exposure to probable infection. Used properly, they prevent clinical disease, but some vaccinated animals may become mildly infected to the extent that larvae are excreted and perpetuate further infection.

(Verminous bronchitis, Verminous pneumonia)
By Lora R. Ballweber, MS, DVM, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Colorado State University

(The most characteristic clinical sign of lungworm infection is widespread coughing within a herd. Mortality occurs in heavy infections. Although dairy or dairy-cross calves are most commonly affected with lungworm, - born single-suckled beef calves are just as susceptible when turned out to grass in early
