Case of the day

Ella was presented with multiple puncture wounds following a fight with a bigger dog. Xrays revealed that the wounds were not penetrating into the chest cavity but were extensive and penetrating into the deeper tissues. We opted to manage the wounds and treat infection before any surgical intervention.

Trigger warning if you're scared of blood🤚🏾🛑.
Rio the sweet three legged dog ❤️. Rio had a badly damaged leg that was beyond repair and we opted to give him a better chance at comfort and life by removing the source of pain. Surgery went smoothly thanks to Dr. Specioza and Dr. Daisy and he's been running around smiling and greeting everyone with his three legs 😂. He truly is the sweetest boy on earth.

Happy World Rabies Day regal furmily 😃. Rabies is a vaccine-preventable viral disease that is zoonotic. This means that you can easily get it from your furbaby and it is 100% fatal.

Consultation room 101: A lot of times as a client you will come to the clinic with a general complaint that may be completely unrelated to what your furbby is going through. It is paramount that an initial general examination is done before going to the target area of complaint.
Meet Maxis 😊, after a general and physical examination we realized that he had a myriad of problems ranging from flea allergy, mites, pyotraumatic dermatitis and a blood parasite known as Mycoplasma (hemobartonella). All these could not have been picked up from home. We're now well on our way to recovery ❤️

A week ago, we got to participate in a life changing once in a lifetime surgery together with a well able veterinary team from The University of Nairobi, KWS and the Pangolin project on an adult male pangolin. This little boy's leg was caught in a snare resulting in a degloving wound (tearing off of the muscles and the bones of the distal part of the leg). Therefore, the only remedy was an amputation. Fingers crossed for good rehabilitation and recovery.
We are grateful for the opportunity to impact not only our pets and domestic animals but also the wild and exotic breeds that require our help.

Misty the feisty girl with the cone of shame 🙂, aka an Elizabethan collar. After surgery or following wound management, it is paramount to use an E-Collar. I know that once our dogs and cats look at us with those puppy eyes, we feel inclined to remove it but pls don't 😁. It's for their own good preventing them from licking the surgical site/wound or moreso removing the sutures we just put.

Guess what type of surgery we were preparing to do 🤔? Can you tell with the type of instruments and the leg hint on the second slide? Our little girl was fast asleep despite the widely opened eyes. This week we'll release tiny educative snippets of this surgery. I hope you'll enjoy the ride and learn something new. There's no surgery that we shy away from 😊.

Meet Floki, the smallest dog with the biggest personality. Just under 2kg and was in a heated battle with a cat. It did not deter him or his elephant sized personality 😅. Came to the clinic guns blazing but with an extremely high fever of 40.2 degrees C. Dr. Daisy sedated him, cleaned up his wounds and cut out the load of gunk and pus that had collected in his ear wounds. Safe to say he's on the right path to recovery.
Remember to bring your furbabies to us as quick as possible following bite wounds or scratches to avoid abscesses and severe infection. Time is of the essence in matters wounds 🤗.

Let's talk teeth 😬! How many teeth can you count on the first slide? Do you take your dogs for dental checkups? We could smell this boy from a km away and it wasn't pleasant 🤢. His teeth were so bad we could barely save them. Safe to say he actually started eating well two days after extraction 😊

Oral disease is a common phenomenon that is often overlooked by owners and during patient examination. I hope this picture prompts you to visit the vet for a dental check up of your furbabies to avoid such discomfort and loss of teeth.

Let's talk puppies 😍. Meet Taji, a first time mum who had a whopping 16puppies and difficulty during birth (dystocia). Dr. Macharia did a Caesarian section on her and we were able to save 15 🤗. With such a large litter and only 10 teats to her name you can only imagine the dilemma the owners had. With proper advice and a proven milk formula recipe, the puppies are tripling in size by the day. Feel free to consult on matters neonatal care and milk replacers ❤

Meet Mescudi and Travis (interesting names I know 😁). Two DSH cats that visited the clinic for their vaccinations and deworming. They didn't disturb Dr. Specioza one bit, and will definitely get some extra meat tonight 😊.
