Eggshell membrane, a natural byproduct of the egg industry, has gained significant attention as a valuable source of bioactive compounds with therapeutic potential. The key proteins in ESM (Eggshell membrane) play a fundamental role in cartilage health (1). While collagens provide tensile strength to the extracellular matrix (ECM) of cartilage, glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) such as chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid (HA) help maintain hydration and elasticity (2).

Furthermore, collagen types I, V, and X, elastin, and various growth factors included in ESM are critical for supporting cartilage repair (3). These properties make ESM an attractive candidate for promoting cartilage repair, especially in degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis (4). Similar to humans, dogs experience osteoarthritis, where chronic inflammation triggers oxidative stress, causing chondrocyte death, cartilage breakdown, and degradation of the ECM, ultimately leading to joint degeneration (5). Eggshell membrane has been shown to decrease pro-inflammatory cytokines and improve joint health in animal models and human studies, making it a popular ingredient in dietary supplements (6).

As a breeder, my objective extends beyond producing exceptional dogs, as I also strive to educate my clients and share the knowledge imparted to me with others.

Temperament is one of the critical aspects of a dog's mental resilience and behavior. One thing I’ve observed along the way that I want to address today is kennel blindness. We acquire our puppy and, due to our affection for them, we can be blinded by love, failing to recognize their flaws. Additionally, many individuals lack the correct knowledge of canine anatomy, including the correct terminology for various parts.

I’m sharing this chart in the hope that it proves useful, which we can study and compare to our dog(s) to identify flaws and areas for improvement in our future productions.

Did you know coconut oil might not be the superfood you thought it was?

While it's often praised for its MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides), it turns out half of those are actually lauric acid, an LCT (long-chain triglyceride) that doesn’t provide the same benefits. Unlike true MCTs, which provide quick energy and are less likely to be stored as fat, lauric acid takes longer to break down and may even increase inflammation.

But don’t worry! Coconut oil still has its perks. It’s great for healing cuts, soothing itchy skin, and even repelling fleas and ticks. Just be cautious when feeding it to your dog.

For the benefits of MCTs without the downsides, try MCT oil without lauric acid instead.
