After the tragedy we faced last night, I wanted to share some positive news about another neurological case.

Percy is healing SO well from surgery, and pending what the vet says at her checkup in a couple days she is looking for a foster to adopt home.

She may look miserable in this picture, but we swear it’s just because she’s mad about the cone. She’s actually feeling great.

Message us for more info about adopting Percy!

We were hit with a devastating loss tonight. Hera, a cat deeply loved by many, left this world. We knew she had a condition that would get progressively worse over time, but no one expected her to take a turn this fast. Maybe it was because everyone who cared for her loved her so much and always wanted to hope for the best. There were signs that things were getting worse, but we chose not to see them as such.

We did everything within our power to cure her, make her comfortable, and treat her condition, but there was nothing to do. Neurologists felt her condition was caused by a bacterial infection in utero.

We brought her into the vet tonight to see if there was anything more we could do, any adjustments we could make in their medications, but instead the vets told us it was time to let her go. We always focus on quality of life when faced with these tough calls. We asked the vet about any other options we had, but there weren’t any more. We had tried everything, and it was time.

We wish with all our hearts there was more to be done. We wish that there wasn’t such a problem with uncared for cats getting pregnant, and that this had never happened in the first place.

We included some of our favourite pictures of Hera here, and the last picture is of the funniest thing that happened some nights at dinner. We love her lots, and will never stop trying to save cats like her.

Rest In Peace you cutie, we’ll all miss you so much ♥️ @ Cavan Hills Veterinary Services

CHARLOTTE IS ACCEPTING ADOPTION APPLICATIONS!

Charlotte is a 10 year old diabetic cat. She is looking for a home who is willing to give her the care she needs (insulin injections, glucose testing) and has no other cats. Charlotte just had a full blood work up that showed she is a very healthy cat! Apart from her diabetes she has no history of health concerns. She is loving, sweet, and very motivated by her favourite treats. She has been well managed on a very small amount of insulin given twice a day. Feel free to message us with any questions!

Hello friends!

Just wanted to make a quick update as far as adoptions go for these kittens. Due to covid-19, some unexpected issues with our regular vet appointments have come up. This has delayed our adoption decisions a bit. Please know if you submitted and application you WILL hear back soon! We are doing our best to get things back on track and get these kittens into their forever homes.

If you are applying to adopt a cat who is already spayed or neutered there will not be the same delay.

Thank you for your patience and understanding!

PERCY UPDATE!

Thank you everyone who donated to save this sweet young cat. We are so thrilled to announce her surgery went well, and she is in recovery! Things are looking very good! We have one follow up appointment with a neurologist to make sure everything is working smoothly and to make a plan for her future medication needs, but so far everything has gone so well in her recovery.

A gigantic special thank you to Percy’s guardian Angel, Joanne. Without her support i don’t know what we would’ve done.

With things looking so good for her, we are ready to open up the conversation about a foster-to-adopt home. If you are interested in having this sweet girl join your home when she is recovered, feel free to message us! We would love to chat with you about if your home would be a good fit for Percy.

Percy will likely have some lasting neurological issues. She can be a little “spaced out” and is a slow learner. There’s a chance the doctor will want her to stay on anticonvulsants just to be safe, but we aren’t sure yet. Percy will ONLY be available for “foster-to-adopt” so that we can be confident that she ends up in the perfect home.

If you would like to donate to Percy’s follow up neurologist appointment, we would appreciate it so much! We accept e-transfers, PayPal, cheque, or cash. She is such a sweet girl and your continued support has quite literally saved her life.

KITTENS FOR PRE-ADOPTION!

Penelope’s kittens are ready for pre-adoption! They will be able to go to new homes around mid February if all goes well. They will be spayed/neutered and receive their first vaccines. Adoption fee is 200$, and applications can be submitted via our website. Please note priority is given to those who chose to adopt in pairs, and kittens will not be adopted out alone to homes without other cats (if you have any questions on this please reach out or look up “single kitten syndrome”). DM or email us any questions!

***Two kittens (photos not posted) will be staying in their foster home, as the foster is choosing to adopt them***

Happy Adoption Joyce!

Then our wonderful friendly Joyce found her purrfect family. She is Adoption #417. We are so happy for you sweet girl Queen Street Cats ❤

Hera is looking for a long term foster home!

Now that we know more about her situation, it’s become apparent that we probably won’t be able to “cure” her an have her up for adoption. Knowing this, we want to find a long term foster home for her.

This would mean that whoever wanted to adopt her would always have the support of QSC in managing her condition. Hera would continue to be seen by her vet through Queen St. Cats, and the foster would only take on whatever costs were possible. She is a special case, and we are flexible in our plan for her.

Hera is epileptic, and although her seizures are well controlled with medication, she will likely continue having the odd one. She is on 3 anti convulsants, and can be difficult to administer medication to.

We love Hera deeply, and just want her to have the perfect home. She is fine with other cats (if they give her a little space), not great with young kids, fine with dogs (if they give a little space), and can now do stairs as long as they have carpet!

If you have any interest or are curious, please message us! Ask us questions about her! We love her so much, and want to find her a perfect forever home. We have so much more to tell you about her, so just send us a message.

25/12/2020

Hello there local cat lovers!

We would just like to mention that if you have questions about our rescue program, just send us a message! We’ve received multiple non-urgent calls (during Christmas no less) and would like to point out that our phone number is generally just for use in urgent cases.

To the folks who were concerned we were not a legitimate rescue due to us having no central location, we would simply like to illustrate the difference between shelters and rescues! A shelter has a physical central location and admits more cats into their program, whereas rescues may have no physical central location (they are quite often foster based like ours!) and only take in the animals who are considered eligible for their program. In our case, we admit cats according to their need based on our room in foster care. In an emergency, we are more than happy for you to call us and request our help, but we do not have a location where you may just drop off any cat. Thankfully, Peterborough has ONE open admittance shelter (PHS) for this purpose.

Merry Christmas everyone, thank you for caring for animals and supporting our endeavours to save cats who need our help most.

21/12/2020

We’ve been bad at posting lately! Sorry friends! Here’s a little update.

Lately things have been busy. Lots of kitties here are receiving the medical care they need to become adoptable (this includes our blind cats, our kidney disease cats, our diabetic cats, and many more!). It’s mostly boring stuff, but we are so glad we’ve seen so much progress in so many of them. Things will get moving again more in the new year.

Persephone had her surgery postponed due to some complications. She is missing a clotting factor in her blood, and will need a transfusion in order to get her lifesaving surgery. We will keep you updated on her progress!

Kittens are growing up, and we will open adoptions in the new year!!!

We have a new intake tonight (suggest a name in our story!) who is currently at the vet, more updates soon.

Something that many of you don’t know, is that I (the director of QSC) am currently a student! After working in animal care for years, I decided to begin my journey towards being a vet and helping even more animals. Unfortunately that means that I am BUSY between the cat rescue and exams this time of year. Foster and adoption applications will be processed more quickly again in the new year. We are a small, foster based, volunteer run rescue. We appreciate the support of each and every one of you so much!

If anyone would like to help support Percy (Persephone), our newest intake, or any of our other cats this Christmas, we would be so grateful. We accept e-transfer and PayPal donations, as well as cash or cheque. Every donation (no matter how big or small) gets us closer to saving another life.

Happy holidays! ✨ 🌲 ✨

28/11/2020

With Persephone’s bill being a bit higher than expected at her first specialist appointment, and with her now needing a CT scan to find the spot that needs surgery, we could really use your help with vet costs! We have had some very generous donations that have allowed us to get this far, but we need your help to save this sweet little life.

Please help us in raising funds before her CT scan this Wednesday.

25/11/2020

Well Percy’s appointment didn’t go as well as we hoped. Unfortunately they couldn’t find the shunt on the ultrasound, and so we had to book an additional test called a CT scan. If there is a shunt, it would 100% be seen on the CT scan.

So far the first visit cost about 800$, and our next one will be roughly 1800$. This is without the surgery cost.

If you are in a position to donate, this little lady could use all the help she can get.

Luckily, the medications are helping in the mean time, so while we wait for our CT scan appointment next week she’s feeling pretty good. The medications we use for shunts help to control the level of toxic substances in her blood, which may not work for long term but helps to protect her brain in the mean time.

23/11/2020

BONNY!
This little lady has been up for adoption for FOREVER and we don’t know why! She is so sweet, about a year old, good with other pets, loves cuddles, and all around wonderful.

Reach out via messenger today or apply on our website!

* Long post! *

We are so grateful for everything you folks have done for us. Every little donation has helped tremendously, and we are so grateful you guys are giving us the chance to save this sweetheart.

Percy is all the way from North Bay. She’s only about a year old, and was transferred to us due to her seizures. We didn’t know at first what was causing them, but we learned a lot while figuring out her condition.

A liver shunt is (basically) when blood (usually blood from around the intestines that is carrying the nutrition from their meal) bypasses the liver rather than being filtered through it. When the blood isn’t filtered, many toxins reach many parts of the body (including the brain, which caused her seizures).

Signs usually include nausea after eating, stunted growth, orange eyes, seizures, pressing head against wall or objects, etc. Percy presented with ALL of these, but as it’s really not a common condition we weren’t sure before we ran some tests.

We were concerned about the possibility of FIP, toxoplasmosis, etc. There are so many possible causes of seizures! FIP was ruled out in bloodwork, but bloodwork also showed a smaller size of the red blood cells, and some other telltale signs of something being wrong that corresponded with a liver shunt.

We planned on bringing her into the vet later this week for a blood test specifically for a liver shunt, called a bile acid test. We ended up needing to bring her in earlier as an emergency though when she suddenly became very sick and nearly unresponsive. Thankfully the amazing vets at Cavan hills have been taking great care of her there.

Dr Daley has helped us with almost every late night emergency we’ve brought to Cavan Hills. He is a brilliant vet and one of the very greatest in emergency care.

Dr. Shalini is one of the most inspiring women and brilliant vets QSC has had the pleasure to work with. Her professional experience has helped us become a better rescue, and solved some of our most tricky cases.

We are so grateful for our supporters and for everyone at for allowing us to save cats like Percy. She will be seeing a specialist on Tuesday and we will know more!

23/11/2020

Newman is up for adoption! Please reach out for information on his special needs. He is a unique guy looking for a perfect home. Needs a home with no other cats, and no young kids.

23/11/2020

Those of you who follow us on Instagram are already aware of the situation with our sweet little Persephone. She is currently hospitalized at Cavan Hills Veterinary services until she is transferred to her internal medicine specialist on Tuesday. We are so thankful to all of you that have already donated towards assisting with her care. The truth is, her hospitalization, testing, and surgery to repair her liver shunt are going to cost more than we could’ve possibly imagined. We don’t have an exact quote yet, but we know that on the high end the surgery alone could be 7 thousand dollars. We appreciate all your help more than you could know.

If you are able to donate, you can find a link to our PayPal in our “about” section, or we accept e-transfers at [email protected]

Stay tuned tomorrow for a post explaining some more on her condition.

Tara is the last kitten of this crew up for adoption! Email us for info on her adoption fee, and what she’s looking for in a home. 💕

31/10/2020

Sweet little Bonny is still up for adoption! She’s around a year old, fixed, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped.

She gets along well with other people and pets, can be a little shy and submissive (which generally makes introducing to other pets even easier)

Message us for more info! This lovely girl deserves a great home.

Queen St Cats has kittens!

Joyce is finally ready to send her babies off to their forever homes. Joyce came from Operation Catnip Peterborough , still nursing her kittens and already pregnant with more! Now that she’s successfully raised her 2 litters, the babies are up for adoption, and so is Joyce.

All will be fixed and vaccinated before adoption, we’re accepting applications now! Message us for more information, or submit an application via our website!

These kittens are quite young, and so they must be adopted into a home with other cats or adopted in pairs! We promise that 2 kittens is easier than 1 though. When you adopt a pair of siblings, they keep each other company and keep each other entertained.

16/10/2020

Some featured adoptables of the week!

1- Joyce’s kittens

2- Bonnie

3- Billie

Check out the link in our bio or message us for more info on these cuties!!

Billie and Bonnie are ready to go to their forever homes any day now! They are spayed, vaccinated (FVRCP and Rabies) and microchipped. Joyce’s kittens are available for pre-adoption, and can go to their new homes as soon as they are spayed/neutered.

Found kitty! Anyone recognize him?

FOUND CAT- LOOKING FOR OWNER

This precious cat was found near Manvers arena in Bethany on October 14th at 9 pm!

This cat is safe with the people who found it! Please contact us at the clinic if this is your baby.

Happy October! In honour of the Halloween season, here are 4 of our black cats currently available for adoption! Black cats tend to have a harder time being adopted, partly due to superstition. These cuties are the best luck though, and would be a great addition to any household (especially as we’re going into the second wave of covid, you’ll want a buddy around the house♥️)

1- Billie
Billie is a very sweet older kitten. She was feral, and her foster home has worked hard on gaining her trust and teaching her that humans are there to help her. She can still be very timid, and will need some time to adjust in a new home, but she is very loving when she settles in.

2-Ellington
Ellington is a pretty typical kitten. Playful, cuddly, and wonderful to have around. He’s lots of fun, and such a sweetheart. Ellington is quite young and social, and as such cannot go to an only cat household. We would recommend adopting a pair if you do not already have a cat in the home!

3-Sadie
Sadie is so loving. She’s an older girl, and has lived quite a long and hard life. All she wants is constant snuggles, lots of food, and to follow you around and sleep on your pillow with you. She gets very attached and possessive of her humans, and as such would be best as an only cat. She’s AMAZING with young kittens though so if you foster kittens she would love to help you.

4-Charles
Charles is still working on his socialization, and as such is only available for foster-to-adopt homes with experience in socializing cats. He’s very sweet, but he’s been mistreated by humans enough that he has a hard time trusting.

Study buddies/ quarantine companions for adoption!

These two black kittens (Billie and Ellington) and this big fluffy sweetheart (Bellamy) are ready for adoption!

With the second wave of covid coming in, you may want to have a buddy around the house. Message us for more info!

30/09/2020

With the second wave of COVID-19 coming in, we have updated our adoption policies.

Please note, virtual meet and greets with kittens are still available upon request.

Our Featured Felines of Friday!

1) ***EDIT* Bellamy has been adopted****
Bellamy is such a big, sweet, loving boy. He’s very soft and can be easily startled, but wants nothing more than to be with his people. He is neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and ready for adoption!

2) Bonnie is a very sweet tabby girl about a year old. She came from a rough situation, but has made a beautiful recovery! We can wait to find her forever home. She’s done so well in foster care, and is great with other cats. Bonnie is spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and ready for adoption!

3) Ellington is a cute little 10 week old kitten who can go to his forever home any day now! He still has that kitten level of energy (and cuteness) but has a very calm presence. He loves snuggles and has a very soft demeanour. He is neutered, received his FVRCP vaccine, is microchipped, dewormed, and ready for adoption! Ellington is under 6 months so needs to be adopted to a home with another cat so he isn’t lonely.

22/09/2020

Can you believe how cute this guy is?!

This little one is named Ellington. He came from the “Jazz colony” (all the cats there have been named after jazz musicians). When we took on the first couple kittens from there this spring, we had absolutely no idea that the rest of our year would be spent trying to save more kittens from this location.

Ellington can be a nervous boy, but also incredibly playful and friendly once he adjusts to you. He needs a little bit more time here to get socialized, but is available for pre-adoption! He is already fixed, and is looking for a home that already has a cat (or someone willing to adopt a pair of kitties!).

Check out our website to apply!

Hera is just too cute not to share everywhere.

Hera is staying with us as we work on figuring out what exactly will give her the highest quality of life possible. She’s our top priority special needs kitty right now, because she’s dealing with so much! On top of her issues with her back legs, she’s got epilepsy! Often times with congenital issues, the ones you can see are just the tip of the iceberg. After our time with her, we can safely assume that there are more mysteries to uncover, and digging a little deeper could broaden our understanding of her struggles. We hope to get additional testing (especially hoping to get some imaging done of her brain!) to make sure we know as much as we can about her. In the mean time, we will simply keep learning about her likes and dislikes through trial and error.

This weeks “likes” are churu tubes, sitting on the bathroom floor, and fluffy beds. This weeks “dislikes” are the dark, and slippery flooring when she’s already grouchy 😬.

The place we put funding first has to be spay/neuter initiatives right now, because winter is coming and we don’t want kittens out in the cold! But as soon as we work through the “Jazz colony”, all funds will be going toward helping Hera 💕

TNR the Jazz boys colony organized by Khora Dyer

Nat and Theo have been adopted! We’re so proud of how far they came. When Theo came to us, he was fully feral. When Nat came to us, he was on the brink of death (going into shock from starvation, dehydration, and infection).

The place they come from sees so many kittens suffering, getting ill, and dying from the cold every year. They were lucky enough to be rescued, but unless we trap the whole colony the cycle will only continue. Please help us take on this huge project by donating to our gofundme or buying one of our t-shirts from Nish tees! We cannot do it without you. Even 5$ helps!

Anyone who follows us on Instagram will have heard about our “Jazz Litter” of kittens. Theo, Nat, … Khora Dyer needs your support for TNR the Jazz boys colony

Queen Street Cats Tee | Nish Tees

Our fundraiser is live!! Get a t-shirt from Nish Tees to support Queen St. Cats, or donate to our gofundme!

All the proceeds from this fundraiser will be going into a TNR of the “Jazz Kittens” colony. With your donations, we were able to save Nat when he came to us close to death. Now, we’re trying to get the money needed to prevent that from happening again.

It’s roughly 100$ per cat to TNR, and we don’t know exactly how many cats we’re looking at! If it’s just 10 cats though, we’re already looking at 1000$! We need your help to put an end to kitty suffering. Together we can rescue the kittens, and TNR any feral cats to prevent them from having more babies. Help us get these guys fixed and rescued before winter hits!

What better way to show your love for kitties than with this adorable tee from Queen Street Cats!Available in 4 different colours!!! Queen St. Cats is a foster-based rescue, focused on disadvantaged and disabled kitties. Their goal is to raise happy, healthy kittens, and to give every cat their best...

03/08/2020

We can accomplish more together! These spicy little kittens will be going back to operation catnip for adoption, but momma Joyce (who is overdue now, and should have babies any day) will be staying with us as she raises her new babies. 💕

Take a close look at these photos and let us know if you see anything shocking...

This is Joyce and her 4 cuties Xander, Anya, Buffy, and Willow. Momma Joyce isn't a feral, but a domestic who was either abandoned or lost. She gave birth to these four in the wild and as a result they are true ferals who have had limited human interaction. Joyce is the perfect example of why we have an over cat population crisis.

All are currently in foster for socializing. But why is momma in foster if she's a domestic and already socialized?? Well... take a close look at Joyce's belly. Notice anything? Maybe it looks a little plump and round... Surely she's not pregnant!?!? She already has a litter that is barely old enough to survive on their own...

This is the sad reality when we don't take pet ownership seriously and spay/neuter our pets. Joyce will be full term in just a few short weeks and ready to give birth to yet another litter. Can you imagine being pregnant when you just gave birth only a few short months ago?? Can you imagine the toll that would take on your body and health? Or the hardships you would have to endure trying to not only survive on your own in unfamiliar territory, while still managing to stay healthy enough to provide for not just one litter of kittens, but TWO?!?

This is why it is SO important to be responsible pet owners and spay & neuter our pets!! We don't want to think about the unnecessary suffering Joyce and her babies would have had to endure if it wasn't for kind people in our community. We do our best to TNR, but it's an uphill battle that is never ending... The fastest and easiest way to humanely combat the cat over population starts by being responsible pet owners.

A huge thank you to Queen Street Cats who have taken this growing family in for us. Momma Joyce will be able to give birth in a safe place where she can focus on just being healthy enough to survive another pregnancy. Everyone is currently doing well and are very happy to have full bellies, warm shelter, and a place where they don't have to worry about their survival 💚💚💚

These brothers (Theo and Nat) are looking for a home together! Could your home be a good fit? Message us, email us, or apply on our website today!

24/06/2020

This little kitten needs your help!

He came to us today in critical condition. Severely starved and dehydrated due to his mother’s untimely death. We did what we could for him at home, but recognized that his condition was beyond our abilities and had to get him to Cavan Hills Veterinary Services for the care he needed. His brothers are Theo, Miles, and Louis (who most of you have seen on Instagram!) and we desperately want to reunite these guys.

If you can donate anything at all to his care, it would be so appreciated. He needs to at least spend the night at the vet on IV fluids, and we will be looking at a decently large bill.

Our email for e-transfer is [email protected]

We can also accept PayPal donations at https://paypal.me/queenstreetcats?locale.x=en_US

Thank you so much!! Pictures of his brothers in the comments.

Unplanned litters of kittens aka “whoopsies” are generally posted online and can often end up in the wrong hands.
The CDHS offers a Spay Your Mama Program where unplanned litters can be surrendered to the shelter FREE of charge and the shelter will also spay the mother FREE of charge.
We will fix the whoopsie and ensure all members of the surrendered litter are vaccinated, microchipped, spayed/neutered and new adopters are carefully screened by our Adoption Counsellor.
For more information on our Spay Your Mama Program, please call 519-623-7722 x225 and together we can fix the whoopsies!
