Hi, I created this page as a place those of us that love our fur babies can discuss current health issues, how our pets can live a longer and healthier life, and share photos and stories of them. I will share info for different things such as dog foods and over vaccination, and I welcome group discussions so that we can all learn from each other.
I will start by telling a little bit about myself and welcome all of you to post a little about yourselves and/or your pets.
I have loved animals from as long as I could remember. I grew up with dogs (my dad raised beagles outside and my mom had a poodle and later a Shih tzu in the house). My first real pet was a cat, and later a sheep 🤣....his name was Charlie. Then I got my dream dog, a German Shepherd, when I was around 10. Every year on my birthday though I wished for a horse. My parents were not going for that one though so didn't get my first horse until I was around 20 years old. I was never quite the normal kid though I guess because my imaginary friends when I was little were not other kids but animals lol. I had imaginary horses, wolves, raccoons, and more. My favorite shows were Grizzly Adams, Mr Ed, Lassie, and Rin Tin Tin. Anyway skip to my 20s and 30s and I owned many horses, dogs, and cats over the years. I love big breed dogs and have owned Rottweilers. Great Danes, German Shepherds, and now my favorite breed the Bullmastiff. My parents never took our animals to the vet, my dad gave all his own shots and if they got sick, my parents just did what they could to nurse them back to health. The dog food they bought was biggest bag you could find for like $15-$20 so I really never learned about how bad many of these feeds were until later in life. Even when I thought I was doing better because was buying better named brands such as Eukanuba from places like Petsmart, I didn't realize they still weren't quality feeds.
When I got my first Bullmastiff, Athena, her breeder helped me start to find healthier options of kibble for my dog, and how to really look at the labels. Then when I was getting Orion, his breeder helped me so much to really learn about nutrition and over vaccination. I started my dogs on raw about a year ago, which is probably the very best for optimal health if balanced correctly but can cause nutritional deficiencies if not balanced. Athena is so picky that it is hard to get her to eat her fruits and veggies no matter how well I try to mix them with the meat. So, Amy mentioned feeding a half kibble, half raw diet which has been really great and makes life so much easier when we are traveling with the dogs as well.
Recently, I was introduced to this really great company that offers full line of dog and cat foods, supplements, treats, and pretty much anything your pet might need. The feeds have only the best ingredients and dogs love it! Lots of variety on dog foods which works great for Athena because she gets bored of one food quickly. The best part is that I am also now making money and earning free dog food by helping to sell these amazing products to there people who want the best for their pets.. Sorry this ended up a much longer post than I planned lol.
Anyway welcome to PAWS Up 4 Healthy Pets!
