UPDATE: I’VE BEEN ADOPTED! 🥳🥳

“Hi there, it’s me, Thorne! 🐾

Today, I somehow busted out of my kennel and roamed around the room greeting all my roommates. They couldn’t believe I cracked the code and got out!! I heard a human friend walking by, so I ran over to say hello and show her how proud I was of myself.

Anyway, I’ve been here for a while waiting for a human to come in and choose me. I see people coming in to meet my friends, but nobody has come in and specifically asked to meet me which does make me really sad. I try to keep a positive outlook though and am waiting as patiently as I can.

I am around 2 years old and 66 pounds. I am dog friendly with slow and proper introductions. I feel most comfortable around older children who will respect my space and take note of my large, wiggly self. I would love to find a family that will give me lots of exercise and maybe even do some training with me.

Love, Thorne. 🐾

Ps. Someone better come adopt me soon or I’ll do it again! 😏”

The indomitable Camberley Kate, aka Kate Ward, and her stray dogs in England, 1962.
Camberley Kate was born on June 13, 1895 in Middlesbrough. Orphaned before the age of ten, she was raised by an aunt in a strict religious atmosphere. As a young girl she went into service and eventually found her way to Camberley. In later years she once claimed to have been head cook at the RMC at the time of the Battle of the Somme, even though she was only 21 years old.
She also mentioned that she knew what it was like to be homeless.
In 1943, Kate bought a cottage in Yorktown and soon took in her first stray, a dog that was about to be euthanized because of lameness.
Over time, the number of dogs in her home grew - some tied to her door, others left in carriers, others brought to her by police or other authorities. By the end of her life, she estimated that she had cared for more than 600 dogs.
Kate and her olive green handcart marked "STRAY DOGS" were a familiar sight in the area as she pushed it from Yorktown to Camberley every day.
She died on August 4, 1979.

The Warrior Dog Foundation is the sanctuary of last resort to K9s slated to be euthanized. These dogs served our nation and communities bravely. Warrior Dogs often stay with us for many years, and some live out their lives with us.

Our ultimate goal is to prepare our dogs for adoption. We are always in search of experienced K-9 handlers, veterans, law enforcement; and individuals who have circumstances appropriate to care for them.

Some criteria for eligibility:
🔷 No code or homeowner association regulations restricting ownership of a K-9
🔷 A fenced yard.
🔷 These retired K-9’s are not suitable for a home with children or other pets.
