How we celebrate Sinhala and Tamil New Year at home with family🇱🇰❤️!

Sinhalese Tamil New Year:
Aluth Avurudda (Sinhala: අලුත් අවුරුද්ද)
This is a traditional New Year of the Sinhalese people of Sri Lanka. It is actually a major harvest event celebrated by not only the Sinhalese but by most Sri Lankans.

Families undertake a variety of rituals according to the exact timings which are determined by astrological calculations - from lighting the fire to making the milk rice to entering into the first business transaction. The approach of each ritual at the given auspicious time is often marked by the sound of loud firecrackers.

Upon completion of the mandatory rituals, families visit their neighbours, friends and relations and share Awrudu food with each other.
