BE AWARE fellow African Tiger keepers! We share this information for your knowledge. One of the hobbyist got one Goliath Tiger and Two Vittatus Tiger of same size (about 5 inches) from our last African shipment. These three fish were raised together in a 15ft x 15ft x 6ft pond since December 2023. The first Vittatus was attacked and killed in February 2024. Then it was assumed that other Vittatus has done it; intraspecific aggression. Then the second Vittatus (in photos) was attacked and killed last night. They fellow was eating well last night and no any sign of weakness as per the update by the hobbyist. Now it is clear that the culprit is Goliath Tiger since there are no any other fish species in the pond with a capability to do a such damage. In the photos, it is evident sharp bite marks. Most of the African Tiger keepers believe that Vittatus is more aggressive than the Goliath Tiger. But we feel that it depend on varies things. Mainly, predatory fish like African Tiger, shows their true potential and behaviour patterns once they put in to larger space with bit similar environment to their original habitat. We were informed that the Goliath live at the bottom of the pond most of the time (Demersal Type), while Vittatus prefer surface level (Pelagic Type). The Goliath tend to attack any similar fish swim above the fellow. These behaviour patterns and differences are created by the nature to minmize the conflicts and protect each species. But once we put them together in a smaller tank, entire system get disturbed and we cannot witness these type of behaviours. Means, we need to give these monsters bit similar environment to see their true identity.

UGHELLI located in close proximity to the floodplains of the West Niger Delta river. The Niger Delta is the delta of the Niger River and West Niger Delta is located on southern Nigeria. The Niger Delta is one of the most prominent regions in Nigeria, endowed with several water bodies that are distributed as freshwaters like rivers, lakes, streams and creeks. LUALABA, the upper course of the Congo River, called the Lualaba, is a large, slow-flowing river for most of its course. The Lukuga River, which drains the overflow from Lake Tanganyika, enters the Lualaba. The upper course of the river lies entirely within the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Several fish species of the Nilo-Sudanian region and substantial number of species of Zambezi River occur in Lualaba in addition to the species from Congo eco system. OGUN RIVER is the waterfront originating in the isolated area of Saki, adjoining the Oyo National Park and gliding through Ogun State to empty into the Lagos Lagoon in Nigeria. The water temperature is generally 29 c, pH around 7, Nitrate below 2 mg/ l and DO well above 5 mg / l. Hence the river system well support the aquatic life.
