This Community-cared for 🐕 was cared for after her protruding growth was surgically removed.

Thereafter she was nourished well over several days, and taken back to her "home", rabies vaccinated.

What a difference a little bit of care can do to the lives of these innocents.

Ths nasal TVT dog we (Nihal and I) brought to Kandy in our car, from about 225 km away from Siyambalanduwa Yesterday (20/4) was given saline (he was off food) plus medicines he needs to have this tumour cured.

Updates on our recent rescues.

This is the wee Shih Tzu on 19/4 (today) who was dumped on Avurudu Day coverd in matted fur and bleeding fungal wounds packed with maggots!!

I bathed him using a medicated shampo as advised by the VTH Vet and gave an Amoxycillin injection, applied Betadine and a wound Poultice I make as prescribed by Dr. Manjula Peiris (Medical Doctor/wound specialist).

Named him Tidzu. He has to feel relieved for the first time in his life probably . 🙏💚💙🐕

My snare victim dog and the one who had surgery to remove a growth can go back in a few days' time. All good. 🙏 They have human communities waiting for them.

Bogart too is fully cured now, but as he is very old and as the Bogambara Bus Stand is soooo very busy and congested, I am thinking of putting him on our stipend scheme in a home for the rest of his life.

Yet again I must talk to the Bus Termius Community dog carers before I so decide.

Also, being a Community dog, there is nothing more they cherish than their freedom.💙💙

I will make arrangements to get him down to Kandy and Ward him at the VTH, treat and cure him and hand him back to his carer in far away Siyambalanduwa.

He has a nasty nasal TVT, utterly curable.

Unlike areas like Kandy, Peradeniya, etc, places like Siyambalanduwa are not very well equipped with veterinary care and after care facilities.

Hence this intervention. 🐕💚💙

On Avurudu day he was dumped - covered in matted fur and maggot-infested wounds all over his body.

A Shih Tzu.

Hell awaits these f------ owners. 😡😡😡

Pictures are not too clear as the ward is dark.

At the VTH clinic cut all the matted fur, removed the maggots, washed his wounds and body with saline and dried, betadine and negasunt applied. Antibiotic injection given.

And he is good now. Eats well, and wags his tail and is happy and comfy.

Will neuter him before homing. Already someone wants him. 🙏🩷🐕💚

KACPAW'S 3 latest rescues. All stray/community dogs.

We do not kill them for convenience and to save funds and labour and to fall in line with big funders on their demand to include euthanasia in order to get their "blood -stained funds.

Bogart was rescued on 18/2, almost dead.

Never thought he will pull out of his death bed. But with love and care and medicine, he did. 🙏🙏🙏 see video in comments.

The other two, one with a wire snare round his leg, and another with a uterine prolapse, were rescued on 12/4.

Snare victim's leg wound is getting better with daily medications and antibiotics. The swelling and smell are gone.

The dog with the uterine prolapse has to undergo surgery.

Both are otherwise in good health, eating well. 🙏🙏💙🩷

Bogart then and now.

When I saw him first I thought he will die shortly.

Nevertheless, I picked him up and carried him to care and cure at the VTH, where he is warded.

Over a week, we were not sure if he will make it, but we medicated him regardless of the costs or labour.

That is what humans must do. Not euthanase (kill).

One of these dogs in my video is an amputee/disabled, a spayed and rabies vaccinated community dog happily living in the Petrol Station in Nuwara Eliya Town, loved and cared by the Community.

🙏🙏🙏We ask all Sri Lankan Animal Lovers to join us in a call to STOP the Western Culture of Euthanasing Dogs and Cats being Propagated in Sri Lanka by Foreign Animal Welfare NGOs.

🙏🙏🙏We ask all animal lovers in other countries not to support AW groups in our country who try to foist on our country this horrendous practice of killing straying and sick dogs, raking in for themselves $$$$ to kill our dogs.

Share this widely.

Sri Lanka's no kill policy on dogs is to ensure that even stray dogs are given the right to live, while humanely reducing dog numbers by spaying.

However, taking advantage of the no-kill policy and the presence of street/community dogs, many Westerners set up Animal Welfare NGOs in this tropical paradise, particularly coastal downsouth region, and secure huge funds from funding organizations that demand euthanasia as part of their welfare activities, while showcasing other strays and mange ridden or sick dogs who are used surely and quickly to pull at both the heart and purse strings of the Animal Lovers in Western Countries who are not used to seeing stray/ community dogs.

Euthanasia is not practiced in Sri Lanka the way it is practiced in the West to kill sick or surrendered healthy dogs and cats by their millions annually.

Day 1 of the Nuwara Eliya MC/KACPAW Clinic. 4th April.

Spayed 38 dogs. Town dogs get a warm room to recover. Some of them we release after they fully recover; some we keep overnight.

Three pups were homed.

Tomorrow is another day of spaying - the final day.

Tomorrow (4/4) early morning, off to Nuwara Eliya to do the annual 2-3 day spay clinics, organized by the NE/MC, usually before the April NE Season begins.

So prepared enough food for Nihal to manage over two days. 💙🩷

If not for him taking care of our 🐕🐕🐕 brood, I cannot stay away several days from home.🩷💙

He also has to give medication to Heidi who gets an awful and painful fungal rash from time to time and it needs to be dealt with at the onset.

Made chicken liver so he can wrap the pills (portioned out) in it and give the pills to Heidi.

In the morning and yesterday got the KACPAW tuk all checked up and repairs attended to.

Washed the tuk too.🙃☹️ I am in the Tuk Tuk league now!! 😁🙃

All these preparations for them not to have unwanted pups and be safe from rabies. 🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕💛💚🧡

12 street/community female dogs and me in the KACPAW tuk-tuk engaged in our relentless mopping up efforts to keep dog populations down by spaying and to control dog rabies.

I am amazed to see so many people taking care of ownerless dogs and entire litters.

They seek our help in getting the 🐕🐕🐕 spayed and we do so in a heart beat.🩷💛

Video shows the 🐕🐕🐕🐕 being being brought back for release - CNVR (catch, neuter spay, and release) after surgery and rabies vaccination.

This lot, so docile, I de-wormed giving the tablets orally before being released.

In two months we have spayed over a hundred such dogs in this manner.

"The Coalition for a Pro-Animal Protection Act for Sri Lanka" is happy to announce some great news about the Legal Protection to be ensured by the Animal Welfare Act to ALL ANIMALS in Sri Lanka, be they domesticated companion, farm, captive, wild, or exotic etc., once our amendments are incorporated into it.

So here is the GOOD NEWS. . . 👍

1- The majority of the amendments presented by the "Coalition for a Pro-animal Protection Act for Sri Lanka (CPAPA-SL)" to the Animal Welfare Parliamentary Sectoral Oversight (OS) Committee on 22/3/2024 were accepted.

2 - Amongst the unanimously agreed amendments are the increase of fines to Rs. 250,000/- upto 05 million and jail sentences to 01 year upto 05 years.

3 - To enable the legal protection sought through our proposed other ammendments, it was agreed to bring in ammendments to other relevant laws and such commitment to be noted in this act which is the overall document for protection of all animals.

4 - Even if a little more time is taken, the OS Committtee recorded that this Act should be passed as a legally applicable Act that ensures protection to all animals, prioritizing prevention of cruelties to them.

5 - This is to share with all of you who value the rights of animals for protection from abuse and cruelties, this success, a huge win-win obtained merely for animals, through our trying efforts.

6 - On behalf of all Sri Lankans who value the Rights of Animals for Protection from abuse and cruelties, our Coalition wishes to gratefully and appreciatively thank the Chairman of the Animal Welfare Parliamentary Caucus Hon. Udaya Gammanpila (M.P.), Hon. Minister of Agriculture - Mahinda Amaraweera, and Chairman of the OS Committee Hon. D. Weerasinghe (M.P.), for their unstinted and unwavering assistance to the Coalition, enabling us to present our amendments, and for the Wisdom and Humanity and the Progressive Thinking we witnessed in them during our interactions.

Dasatha Lanka News: Why do such a lot of animals need help at Animal SoS? Have you thought about it before reporting so adversely, negatively and one sidedly!

Does not this show how irresponsible Sri Lankans are and how cruel and animal abusive they are. Such places as SoS Sanctuary are needed and established to address that!!

Handed this badly injured juvenile barking deer, rescued by villagers and kept safe at the temple, to the Vet Faculty's VTH's Wild Life Section.🙏

He has a nasty gash on his right hind leg, either from a dog bite or from being entangled in a barbed wire fence, or more likely from being entangled in a sharp object.

The wound pierces through the leg and needs sutures. He has bled a lot from the wound.

🦌🌸 These barking deer are extremely fragile animals and are very susceptible to stress and can die suddenly.

So initally the plan was to minimize travel-/ handling-stress and medicate the wound at the temple, which I did under VTH advice. But his wound was far too big, needing sutures. So took him to the VTH and handed him in.

Pray he survives.🙏🦌😢

😢😡 Wild Life Dept. had told the villagers to let him into the wild!!

Why do we need this Dept. REALLY! ?

WHICH ANIMALS DOES THIS DEPT. DEEM AS GOOD ENOUGH OR WILD ENOUGH TO GET ITS HELP?😡😡

A few family commitments took two weeks.

Here is an update on this baby, now named Bogart (after the rescue location - Bogambara in Kandy).

He I think, old and weak as he was/is, defied Death.

Put him on two vitamins, given daily.

Today, for the first time he wagged his tail. 😢💗🌸

Two days ago I told a guy who called me, to take him to VTH that I will look after the rest; I was not in Kandy. But he just wanted to pass the buck.

So many carry their hearts on their sleeves, but . . .

මේ සතාව මම අද rescue කරලා, VTH එකට අරං ගිහිං තුවාලය සුද්ද කර, saline ඇතුලු සියලු බේත් කර, ward කලා. Pet food වලට දාලා දුන් කිරි බිව්වා.

ඇත්තටම මම හිතුවේ මෙයා පණ අදිනවා කියලා මුලදී දැක්කම.

දින දෙකකට පෙර මට මේ ගැන කියපු කෙනාට මම කිව්වේ මම නුවර නෑ දින 2ක්, සතාව VTH එකට බාර දෙන්න මම ඉතුරු ටික බාර ගෙන කරන්නම් කියලා. ඔහු එයට හා කිව්වට, ඒ දේ කර නැත. 😢

Responding to the post at the above link, this injured monkey (Toque macaque) was rescued and handed over to the University of Peradeniya Vet Faculty's Veterinary Teaching Hospital's (VTH) Wild Life Care Center.

He may be X-rayed to determine the back injuries and treated. 👍💗🐒💚

From February 7-12th, in three sessions, we (KACPAW) have spayed 46 streeties - it is a sort of catching up for not being active in January.

There are so many accumulated requests from the community to spay streeties (all juveniles 🐕🐕🐕🐕) in their neighbourhoods.

This was yesterday's sweeties - 12 of them.

Hope to do another 30- 45 at least by 19/2.
