Long story short, our new son has "very bad legs." We suspect hip dysplasia, which is a life-long, hereditary issue ( this is why there should be breeding regulations here. The fact that absolutely anybody can breed here results in the physical and emotional suffering of so many dogs. It makes me so angry!! But, I promised myself I won't go off on a rage rant, so I will shush about that now.)
Yes, so Aster needs physio and swimming every day (swimming is a low impact exercise that strengthens the muscles around the joints, thereby supporting the joints. It also helps reduce pain and inflammation)
My husband and I both try to be positive, and so we're taking this in our stride and trying to make things fun for all our children. Luna hates it and us now. But it's worth it.

The monster's name is Aster (taken from the Greek word for star).

Meet Raphael and Roger ❤️ these two Beagle bros are working on a few things, including excessive barking or baying as it's called in the Beagle world.

Here are a few facts about Beagles.
They are scenthounds that originated in England in the 1300s and were bred for trailing rabbits. Today, they're used for contraband detection and rabbit hunting in the wild as well as in field trials.
They are high-energy little things and therefore need a lot of exercise and games that allow them to use their noses, or they will become destructive. They love company (both human and canine) as they were bred to hunt in packs, and when bred responsibly, they're great with kids. As they were bred to follow their nose, they came across as stubborn because their response to commands when following a scent is next to 0.

Leaving your pup in an unknown place is terrifying. I hope this information helps you to make an informed decision in keeping your pup safe.

Things to look out for when you do visit the boarding:

Meet the caretakers and observe how they interact with your dog.
It's always a good sign if they are taking the time to talk to you and explain the details patiently. It is okay to have a lot of questions. You have every right to get all the information before choosing the right boarding.

Do they check your dog’s vaccination records? Did they conduct a physical check for ticks and fleas on your dogs? How did they and their staff greet your dog?

Take stock of provisions made for the comfort of boarders. This includes fresh drinking water, temperature control, ventilation, and shelter. Can you smell dog p*e or p**p? One or two spots are okay, but if there is a lingering smell of dog p*e or p**p in the air, it generally means that regular cleaning standards are not up to the mark.

Check how the dogs are being kept. Are they excited to meet you, or are they anxious? Do they seem lethargic? In a cage-free setup, check if they are fighting or keeping to themselves.
Is any interaction allowed with other dogs? How well is this supervised?

Keep an eye out for clean, secure, and sanitary conditions. There should be adequate, securely-fenced exercise areas and sleeping areas with comfortable non-slip surfaces. Are you welcome to visit all areas of the kennel or home that the dog will have access to? Are they secure and free of harmful chemicals?

How many dogs will they care for at one time? How much exercise do the dogs get, and how often are they taken out to eliminate? What type of animal care education and training does the provider have? If there are no qualifications, how much experience do they have?

If your dog has any dietary restrictions, allergies, behavioural or medical conditions, it is crucial to disclose this to the facility before you board your dog so that they can be well prepared to take care of your dog.

Mother decided to adopt us a father.. Ira's besotted (she's easily pleased). He feeds me chicken feet behind mummy's back, so I approve. We're a new little family! -

It messed up the names a few times, and Luna looks very dachsund, but I think it captures their characters quite well.

Meet Obi. Obi has really bad separation anxiety, and so he's over come for some training. One of the main ways to combat separation anxiety is proper crate training.
This is how I structured his session.

He started off, pawing at the gate and pacing nonstop. Ira then distracted him with her fun personality until he was calmer and more comfortable. He then practised all the commands he's learnt so far in the midst of a lot of hustle and bustle, which tired him out a bit. Madam Luna then took over and policed him as he was "getting too comfortable."

After a game or two, he was crated and eventually settled enough for an hour long nap in the crate, comforted by the presence of an unwilling Ira.
Aaand this photo was taken just before he left.

Is the rain frustrating you and your doggo?
Play a few games to prevent indoor havoc!

1. Tug of War and Fetch are great ways to tire your dog out indoors. When you combine the two, it's magical! Ask your dog to fetch and then reward them with a few tugs when it's brought back to you. Throw again and repeat.
*note do not play this with dogs who resource guard toys or who have not learnt the "drop" or "leave it" command.

2. "Find it."
Take your dog to a room and hide a treat while he/she's watching. Then say "Find it". Praise when the treat is found. Repeat using easy hiding spots until the dog gets the idea. Then, hide a few treats in easy spots after asking your dog to leave the room. Gradually increase the difficulty.
*note. Don't hide treats on the table or any place you don't want your dog to jump up on later.

3. Kongs, puzzle toys, large chews. Pretty self-explanatory. Freeze bone broth and treats in the kongs for a longer lasting kong. I recommend treats from and . DIY puzzle toys work great! Google a few ideas.
*note don't leave your dogs unattended if you're giving them a large chew.

4. "Get it."
I love this game because it includes training. You need a corridor or a large room to play.
Start by tossing a treat across the room while saying, "Get it!" Then call your dog to you and treat (practising recall) ask your dog for a 'sit' then toss the treat again. Each time you call your dog back, treat! This is to encourage your dog to come back to you. Ask for a different command before you toss the treat again. Eg : down, eye contact, paw, etc. This gets your dog revved up to offer up the behaviour faster before getting to chase the treat again.

5. Hide and seek.
Again, pretty self-explanatory. Toss a treat and then immediately jog away to hide. Call your dog once or twice maximum and wait for her/him to find you. Treat and prase when he/she does. Start with simple hiding spots and gradually increase the difficulty.

"Teruni is a knowledgeable trainer, and Storm has made tremendous progress after spending time with her. I, too, have learnt so much. What I love most about her expert skills is that she backs up the behavioural traits with facts and makes sense of a situation. I know Storm misses his Sunday morning sessions as much as I do and look forward to spending more time with you, Ira and Luna. Thank you, Teruni, for being a wonderful human being and for being so patient with Storm and his attitude. You have taught us to be better together without taking away from Storm and his larger than life personality. I would highly recommend you speak to Teruni - she is without a doubt the best!!!""

Thank you so much!🥺
I have enjoyed every single session with Storm and you! Your hard work and dedication and just awesome view on life in general has been such a learning experience for me. Our boy Storm with his "allergy" to dirty pavements & hot sun patches and random bursts of energy has been so entertaining. I've grown to love you both very much! Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your lives. It's been an absolute pleasure. 🩷
