How do we actually make a difference?

We view dogs as more than just the best pets on the planet. And every day, our mission is to make a positive difference in their lives so they can be their best. We do that by creating premium nutrition that helps bring out the best in your pet.

It all started in 1969, when our founder, Paul Iams, was looking for a memorable word that echoed the uncompromising high level of his new dog food formula. With unmatched quality the market had never seen before, Paul wanted a name that was just as special.

He found inspiration in the world of jazz. In the 1940s, this unique music was evolving, as was its own unique language. Eukanuba ("You-Ka-Noo-Bah") was one word that grew out of that culture. It was reserved for something that was "the tops" or "supreme"—whether it was the latest song or a top-of-the-line car. It struck a chord, and he named his product Eukanuba to embody this ideal. And that’s where our history began.

As we look back to our origins, we also look ahead. Our dedication to creating new innovations in high-performance pet nutrition continues. And you can be sure we’ll keep going the extra mile, so your pet can, too.

Plan playtime. Make a date with your puppy every day to help socialize him. Race him to the park or even read to him. You choose. He will bask in your undivided attention no matter what you do.
Take a road trip. He'll love riding shotgun to the ice-cream store, to the post office, or to pick up bagels. Roll down the window so he gets a bit of a breeze on the way there—but make sure he’s secured in his seat (we recommend a dog-specific seatbelt harness).
Hit the water. Nearly every breed of dog loves water, so prance through puddles, leap into lakes, or just play in a baby pool.
Give him a bath. After all that wading in the stinky pond down the street, give him a nice bubble bath with specially formulated puppy shampoo.
Beat the heat. Exercise with your puppy in the early morning hours and enjoy that sunrise you've missed the past few years.
Walk, walk, walk. To the grocery store. To your neighbor's house. To the elementary school to pick up your kids. You'll be surprised what a good time you'll have.
