Team Phantom is coming right along in the final stretch of the Central Virginia Horse Rescue youth trainer challenge. Annabelle has done an AMAZING job with her project, Phantom. He was a senior horse with minimal training and handling in need of some love and a job when they met in 2022. In the fall of 2022, Phantom suddenly colicked and underwent life-saving emergency surgery at Blue Ridge Equine hospital. The challenge last year for us shifted from under saddle training to post-op care and rehabilitation. Phantom made a full recovery and was able to spend time in 2023 working towards goals of going confidently under saddle. Each chapter along the way has been emotional and heartwarming to watch! Annabelle has worked with Phantom on goals of achieving and maintaining respect on the ground, ground driving, mounting and basic riding cues, confidence while being ridden, and now they are onto developing more softness under saddle and strength for canter work. Phantom is a quirky fella at times but he loves his sessions with his youth trainer, Annabelle. They have come a long way and developed a special bond! This team has plans to enter their first competition series this season to continue their journey of learning together. Stay tuned, more to come from Team Phantom!
