Update of rescue done on July 17th 2024.

The sheer evilness of some humans is incomprehensible. 6 tiny defenseless kittens were heartlessly dumped in the garbage. 2 of the kittens met with a brutal death when some animal chewed pieces off them. The surviving 4 were hospitalised. They were all in critical condition with eye infections [herpes virus] so severe their eyes were sealed shut. Additionally, the kittens presented with very low WBC counts, dehydration, anemia, diarrhea, vomiting and symptoms associated with feline panleukopenia.

For 3 long weeks, they fought for their lives, but sadly all but one survived. Now all that remains is a deep sadness for the suffering these kittens endured, anger towards those responsible for this monstrous cruelty, and outstanding veterinary bills. Justice for Animals owes Pet Vet Rs.422,000 for these 4 rescues alone. Thank you to those who have already supported JFA by making a contribution.

We still have a long way to go to raise this amount, but if we all come together and pitch in, we can do it!

It saddens us immensely that we cannot help every animal in need. With over 2.5million homeless cats & dogs we have made the difficult decision to not take on anymore reported rescues. We will continue to channel all our efforts into our animal health camps that will see thousands of animals saved and prevent future suffering by our spay/neuter - vaccinate - treat - feed programs.

We began Justice for Animals with the focus of spay/neuter at its core because a reactive approach (one rescue after another) is not a sustainable practice. Like all other organisations we are limited by funds, by staff and by time.

Please do continue to support our work as it’s so vital in reducing the number of homeless living in hunger and fear.

Please help us save the lives of four tiny puppies who were found half-buried in the sand under a fishing boat on the beach in Dehiwala.

They are extremely malnourished, dehydrated, and full of ticks. Judging by their condition, it seems they have not had any milk, nutrition, or food for several days. We were told there is no mother, and we assume she may have been run over by a train, leaving the puppies all alone with no food.

Tomorrow, [4th June 2024], we start our fourth program in the Anuradhapura district for 2024 with a 10-day program in the Anuradhapura Municipal Council, Nanupa, and Manupa areas.

I have received many comments and questions regarding the Anuradhapura program, one of which was, "Are you ONLY doing Anuradhapura?"

I am sharing this video from 2022 in which Dr. Chamith Nanayakkara explains the structure of the program.
This clearly shows why it is crucial that the program be goal-oriented and continue in a structured manner according to a specific long-term plan.

We have made significant progress [12,038 dogs and cats have been spayed and neutered in the district to date] towards our shared goal of supporting low-income communities and creating a more compassionate future for animals.

Four weeks ago, these seven kittens were almost blind from eye infections and living among the rocks on Wellawatte Beach. Their survival was uncertain. But they did survive thanks to intensive care, medication, kitten milk, and fish. We appeal for support to help us fund vaccinations, kitten milk, and settle outstanding veterinary bills.

Wellawatte Beach Kitten #8 is one of the 5 older homeless cats living on a rocky outcrop, exposed to the sun and rain, with no access to shelter or food. This affectionate and friendly cat was already beaten once by a fisherman when she tried to steal fish from his bucket.
