Dry eye / Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (KCS) is a condition where your dogs’ eyes are producing insufficient tears, leading to dryness and irritation of the eyes. In some cases you will also see a yellowish-mucoid discharge from their eyes. It is uncomfortable therefore they will squint , rub and scratch their eyes more. A test to diagnose the condition is Schirmer Tear Test (STT). which is a strip of a special filter paper that placed to the dog’s lower eyelid for 1 minute. Scratching is a clue from your pets ! 👀 Discover the most common reasons why they feel itchy 🐶🐱 1. Ectoparasite : ticks, fleas and mites (skin or ear). Those tiny culprit’s bites (or even movement) on the skin can leave them scratching a lot ! Ticks and fleas are able to be seen by eyes but mites are very small and some are microscopic 👀 2. Fungal Infection : whether it is the famous “ringworm” or yeast infection, both will need a medical attention as these are uncomfortable 3. Bacterial Infection : mostly is secondary from other causes. Bacteria is very microscopic so only able to be seen under the microscope ! 🔎 4. Allergy Reaction : allergy could be resulted from food or environment. Since it could be very different on every individual , please discuss with a vet how to find out whether your pets are allergic or not 5. Anxiety : stress-induced itchyness is real! It is not the first common that will be ruled out. Therefore closely observing when, where and how long do your pets scratch a lot is important. Notice your pets are excessively scratching? A list of signs that your dog’s eyes need further check! 👀 Eyes infection could be uncomfortable for your furbabies. Itch, pain or blurry vision can make them feel frustrated. Bring them to a vet if you see one of the sign above ! 🐾

Are you familiar with E.collar ? Here are some condition your pet needs one ! 1. Post Surgery : no licking or biting allowed on the post-op site because it could lead to complication such as infection, stitches dehiscence etc 🤕 2. ⁠Allergy / Skin problem : preventing the dog to bite the itchy area , or scratching the skin around the head or ears 👀 3. ⁠Topical meds appliance : some cream, spray or spot on that applied to your furbabies are not allowed to be licked or swallowed. E.collar will be needed until it absorbed well by the skin ✨ 4. ⁠Post dental procedure : after a dental procedure (such as dental scaling, or tooth extraction etc) they could feel uncomfort around the mouth. If you see them scratching or rubbing the mouth, better to put e.collar on! 5. ⁠Eyes problem : a painful or uncomfortable eyes make them want to scratch or rub the eyes. E.collar helps to prevent more complication and allowing the eyes to heal 👀

Gum and conjunctiva are one of many vital clues to your furbabies overall health and circulatory status. It will help to indicate whether your pet is anemic, lacking of oxygen, having circulation problem or showed as a first sign of various systemic disease. Normal condition will show pink color. If you noticed pale, blue-ish or even yellowish color, it means they will need vet’s attention asap! How about when they press your furbabies’ gum? It is to check their CRT (Capillary Refill Time). A quick simple test to see their circulatory status, by pressing (disrupting blood flow - gum become pale) and releasing (blood replenish back in capillaries - gum back to pink) the gum. Attention for new paw-rents ! We understand being a new pawrents could be overwhelming. But, worry no more! We present you the 5 important things to remember , in taking care of your pups and kittens ! 1. Deworming We don’t want worm as they steal the nutrition from puppy and kitten’s body! Therefore it is important to start giving deworming at 2 weeks old and repeated every 2 weeks until after weaning. Then repeat every month until they reach 6 months old. 2. Vaccination Building protection from various infectious disease is very important. Core vaccinations can be given starting from 6 weeks old and then repeat every 3-4 weeks for 3x (rabies vaccine ideally will be given on the 3rd vaccine - depends on situation). Don’t forget to repeat annually so your furbabies’ immune system always got boosted ! 3. Ectoparasite control Ticks, fleas and other skin parasites could lead to many diseases, not only on the skin but also systemically. There are some options for ectoparasite treatment or prevention (topical, oral, injection). Consult to a vet to find out which is suitable for your pets. 4. Food It is important to give proper nutrition for your puppies and kittens based on their ages and life stages, as different ages will require different formulation of nutritions. 5.
