Max’s Story

I’ve always loved dogs & I've always had 2 or 3 at a time. When I moved back to Baton Rouge, I had my little chihuahua, Natalia, with me. Unfortunately, our new house had a hidden hole in the fence and she got out and disappeared. It was heartbreaking!

One day though while drive along Flannery, Charles saw a little dog walking along the street carrying a bag of bread in his mouth. Charles was worried with the amount of traffic on the road so he open the door to his truck and called out to the little dog. The dog ran over and jumped into the truck and gave Charles a big hug! It’s wasn’t Natalia but the dog was very sweet and seemed pretty smart. After canvasing the neighborhood for a few weeks for his owner, we decided to adopt him.

We got some bad news when we went to the vet though. He didn’t have a microchip but he did have adult heartworms...meaning he must have had heartworms for atleast 6 to 9 months prior for them to be that big. & Heartworms are fatal! We got him on the treatment the same week. I was very worried but he pulled through just fine! No complications aside from a noticeable reduction in his energy levels.

We’ve had him for 7 years now and he’s very happy and healthy. He’s the sweetest and best dog ever. He very quick at learning things and also tries to make us happy. If I’ve had a bad day, I know Max will always be at home to comfort me. We go on long walks every night and I feel that the routine is very calming. I feel like I want to be the best version of myself because Max depends on me. Charles says he’s never really loved a dog as much as he’s loves Max. We feel very lucky to have Max in our lives.
