Celebrating Marine Mammal Rescue Day with the return of this harbor seal pup 🦭 Rescued two days ago with a wound on its rear left flipper, our team brought him back to SeaWorld for x-rays and a vet exam. With his body condition and eating habits proving to be strong, we returned him in La Jolla this morning.

Whether an animal spends a few days, a few months, or even a year with us, we're proud to provide world-class care 24/7. Thank you to our SeaWorld Rescue team for their tireless efforts!

❄️ Penguins' waterproof feathers keep them warm and dry in icy waters. Their black and white coloration also serves as camouflage, helping them evade predators and catch prey.
❄️ Walruses have long, sensitive whiskers called vibrissae. These facial bristles help them detect the subtle movements of prey in dark and murky waters. The sensitivity of their vibrissae is a crucial adaptation for locating food in the challenging conditions of the Arctic and subarctic regions.
❄️ A thick layer of blubber insulates harbor seals, reducing heat loss. The blubber of a northern Pacific harbor seal during winter may account for 27-30% of its total body mass!

Earlier this week, we announced cornerstone investments in the preservation of manatees and Guadalupe fur seals, committing up to $1.075 million over up to four years through the SeaWorld Conservation Fund. The initial investments encompass three organizations and will help support vital census work and tagging for imperiled Gudalupe fur seals, along with habitat restoration, rescue, rehabilitation, release, monitoring and education for manatees globally. It will also help make possible the building of the first African manatee rehabilitation center in Cameroon.

The investments are part of a new strategy to drive greater impact among species of concern. Over the next several years, the Fund will work closely with these organizations as they make a positive impact on our planet's endangered species. In addition to support through the Fund, SeaWorld parks help manatee and Guadalupe fur seal conservation with rescue, rehabilitation, and return. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3MKK9Dw

Earlier this morning on The Today Show, our newest emperor penguin chick made her debut to the world! After 29,000 votes nationwide, our fans named her Pearl 💙 SeaWorld San Diego is the only zoo in the Western Hemisphere where emperor penguins can be seen.

After a nationwide vote, SeaWorld San Diego’s newest Emperor penguin chick now has a name: Pearl. Justin Brackett, curator of birds at SeaWorld, joins TODAY to introduce the first Emperor penguin chick to hatch there in over a decade and shares the special meaning behind her new name.

An update on everyone's favorite rescued baby dolphin: he has been deemed non-releaseable by NOAA and will be staying at SeaWorld Orlando for long-term care. Remember the dolphin rescued from an entanglement in Clearwater? Well here he is hitting a milestone in his rehab: taking a bottle. Stay tuned for more updates on his progress.
