We’re on the brink of losing everything. Everything we have worked so hard for. Everything you have supported over the years. They want to stop us and will try to take EVERYTHING. Our official appeal was rejected and no extension granted for relocating the shelter, we’re facing imminent threat again this week. We don’t know when but they’ll return, without warning, to seize our animals. But we won’t yield. We’ll continue to resist. Please. I beg you. Drop everything and come over to our @moroccoanimalaid sister site. If your fire burn you enough for you to book your tickets. If you believe this is your battle. If you are outraged enough to change your plans. Also, reminder to Write to the MOROCCAN embassy wherever you are. Everywhere you can. Tell them what’s happening. Tell them they won’t give us forestic lands but will violently deport hundreds of dogs, sick, adopted, with three legs, paralysed…. Tell them how it’s unfair to be treated like criminals when we are managing a public health issue. But if you’re around, or not but you’re crazy enough to go fight for strays in Morocco with us, no matter what it takes, I am waiting for you. My stomach is twisted from anger and fear. Will it be tomorrow? After tomorrow? During the night? Will I be alone? What are they going to do to me this time? To our staff? To our animal? We are on the go. What about you?

Thank you for everyone who has shown up in person and in spirit for us and our animals. They haven’t returned. Yet. Here’s hoping they won’t and we have more time to find an appropriate solution, because what happened on Tuesday was a total disregard for animal and human life. My face is full of tears, distress, anger and vitriol for what I have seen. I can only imagine you feel this too. Please read our last few posts to understand more of what’s happening at our sister site @moroccoanimalaid In summary: For the past two years, we have been trying to leave Assersif and secure new land to continue our lifesaving work in peace. The authorities have repeatedly failed to sign off on the new land, leaving us trapped in a desperate situation. They have given us just 3 days to relocate most of our animals. This unjust civil action, initiated by one individual, threatens the safety and well-being of hundreds of innocent animals who depend on us for care and protection. At the end no matter what we did wrong or not, whoever side you are on, you have to agree this is unfair and we cannot move in a blink of a eye just because they say so now. They’ve ignored us for so long. Now it’s boiling and they should blame themselves for letting the problem fester, not us for claiming justices. We will appeal this. We will hopefully get our land signed off and we will hopefully be given adequate time to move. Our dream is to create a sanctuary, where our beloved dogs can roam freely and happily. For anyone who hasn’t already seen here or over @moroccoanimalaid we have decided to close our rescue and TNVR programs for the foreseeable future. Our financial situation is so bad that we are being forced to say no to calls for help. It pains us to write this, even admitting it was difficult. ��You have all been so incredibly kind during this difficult time and have shown us nothing but love and support. To those who shared our story and asked others to join we were so proud to see the campaign spread. Everyday we need at least €1000/10000dh to run our project. This includes all our rents, wages, supplies and dog food. But a large proportion of the budget is specifically for the Vets. For medical material and medicines. For operations and vaccinations and sterilizations. This whole area of our work is largely governed by rescues and we commit a lot of money also offering to pay for owned pets from families who can’t afford the vet care. Our TNVR program, NoMad dogs is exclusively to take in street animals, process them (sterilization/vaccinations/tag) and put them back. It’s these former two areas of our work that we are stopping- just to reiterate we are not closing the rescue.When we say stop at MAA, it really means pause. You must know already that we love this project and our resolve to help more animals in Morocco is not over. You know that “new year, new me” thing? Yeah, we’re not into it either😉 So we’re here again and still asking for your help. We know how boring we might seem. We’re barely here and when we are, we’re asking for donations. We don’t show you all of the behind-the-scenes, we don’t post every day. We’re basically doing everything wrong but with limited staff and usually, one person taking care of the whole shelter, there’s little time for content. Hikes, walks, sniffaries, walkies...however you call them, our dogs love them! They spend most of their time at the shelter, hanging out with other dogs and our team member on-site and time out of the shelter is that much more precious to them. They get a chance to run. There’s only few things that beat this view. It’s a balm not only for the eyes but for the soul, too. It almost makes us forget all our financial troubles. Almost... Six years later, we have four sites, Site Managers, Operations Managers, an amazing team, we’re a registered charity and help hundreds of animals every single year. It’s this exact community that has enabled us to do this. It’s this exact community that has helped us grow this much and help so many animals. But with all these offerings and growing in size, our expenses have grown exponentially, too.
