This beautiful nature has not mellowed the hearts of its residents. They are as cruel to animals and particularly dogs as in the rest of the Balkans. f of my life abroad, I became acquainted with the cruel fate of strays. Poisoning, stoning, abandoning, puppies thrown in the garbage…. is a regular occurrence. Before I knew it, I became an ardent dogs’ protector and rescuer and ended up being as hated and badly treated by my co-residents as the dogs themselves. We remain and fight entirely on our own, my dogs and I. At any one time I have about 16 – 20 dogs living literally with me and I care for many more dogs scattered around the settlement. They are fed, vaccinated, protected from parasites and neutered. Over the last six years that I have been living here I managed to find homes, here and abroad, for hundreds of dogs. While any help, financial or otherwise, regarding food and veterinary expenses is most needed and gratefully accepted, the best help I would beg for these beautiful souls is to be offered a forever home.
