PAWS Mauritius PAWS, is a Mauritian community driven animal welfare organization with no affiliation to any political, ethnic or religious group.

We are a transparent CSR-accredited NGO and are totally reliant on public donations and CSR sponsorship. PAWS Mauritius runs 2 no-kill shelters for dogs and cats in distress. At any one time we have some 200 animals under our care. We also have 2 low-cost veterinary clinics and organise sterilisation (spay) days across the island. We rely on the public generosity and we are also registered to rece

Come experience FUREVER love this Valentine! Adopt a local puppy or a kitten this Saturday 15 February at La City Trianon. We will be next to Espace Maison 11am-2pm. Adoption is FREE to good, forever homes.
Our little angels are already dewormed, vaccinated and sterilised*. We also are in dire need of donations of puppy/dog/kitten pellets for our shelters.

We want to thank you all for the overwhelming suppawt and hundreds of messages and numerous offers to help us relocate our Mon Loisir shelter !!

Here are some fotos of a few of our “pensionnaires” at PAWS Mon Loisir. The 1st foto is that of our watchman being given a warm welcome by our sanctuary dogs. He loves them as much as they love him!

Second foto is that of our old sanctuary dog Valentino who is missing an eye and a leg but don’t think that stops him from trying his charm with the ladies!

So thank you all and we will let you know of any developments. Please do come visit to spend time with our little angels and a few little devils 🤣🤣

URGENT APPEAL: We were informed a few days ago that our lease at Mon Loisir will NOT be renewed.

We have only a few months to find a new location to rent, kennels to build and move our 75 dogs, most of whom are old or have some form of disability.

We have nowhere to go. 6 hardworking full-time staff. So please if you know of anywhere in the North East or East that can accommodate a shelter + already has a building/house + electricity/water, get in touch. We are absolutely desperate!! 😭

Last week, a big doggie came for her vaccination. It was obvious she is a cherished family pet. After digging some more, our vet technician Anaika realised this was a PAWS puppy adopted in 2023!
A PAWS puppy (far right in first foto) who came to us covered in wounds and at a tiny age!!

She looks so happy and pampered and is a fashionista now 😂!! Thank you 🙏 to the amazing family who adopted her and treat her like a full-fledged beloved family member 🥰🫶🏼🐾❤️!!

Meet Louna. She was abandoned with her mom and dad tied to a tree, together with all her baby brothers and sisters, last December. You may know her as one-eyed pup and several of our dear followers donated towards her eye surgery.

Today is the first day of Louna’s new life as a beloved, pampered pet! She was adopted from PAWS Mon Loisir by Deenah and family. Deenah was a long-time volunteer and after losing a cherished family pet, chose to adopt at PAWS.

Before leaving, her new family made sure Louna’s mama and papa say goodbye to their little baby 🥰!

We know that Louna will be loved and spoilt rotten. She already has her little costume and it’s only Day 1 😁

Stories like this make all the hardships we witness and endure worth it. Love you Louna and love you Deenah and family for your beautiful hearts! 🫶🏼😘

Last Friday, 2 PAWS pups, Elli and Kiwi flew to Vienna! And after a week in their new home, they are slowly adapting to their new life and enjoying the garden.

Elli (known to us as Albion) was a mangy puppy brought to us during a sterilisation day in Albion organised by The Paw Pack.
She was in a cage with her mom and 2 siblings (puppy on far right in pic). After sterilisation we took in the 3 pups. One unfortunately died of gastro, one was adopted locally and Elli, dear Elli was adopted to go to Austria together with her kennel friend Kiwi!

A huge thanks to Patrizia and Christian for being the flight buddies to both dogs and a huge hug to Victoria for adopting both, after only seeing them in photos!

Elli and Kiwi we know you will have a happy life, surrounded by love and comfort and good food and a mom vet!

Please get in touch if you want to adopt a puppy or a dog from our shelters. For most, it’s their only chance at a home!

Pinky is so fed up with the heat, she is emigrating to Germany. If you are flying to Frankfurt with Condor as from mid-February and you can be a flugpate (flight buddy) for Pinky, please get in touch.

All costs and paperwork and drop at airport is taken care of. We will queue with you until Pinky is checked-in and all you need to do at Frankfurt airport is pick her up in her crate and drop her with her owner.

If your puppy or kitten is not eating for more than 1 meal, please take immediately to a vet.
There’s an outbreak of parvo (what we commonly call gastro) for unvaccinated puppies/dogs and a very bad outbreak of parvo for kittens/cats (FPV - Feline panleukopenia virus).

Steps to ensure your pet has a better chance at surviving parvo:
- get your puppy/kitten vaccinated at 2 months of age and follow the full vaccination protocol so they are inoculated against most common diseases
- take your puppy/kitten immediately to a good vet when sick. don’t wait or ask for advice on social media!
- parvo is not infectious for humans but it is for your other pets so your sick pet should be kept separate until s/he feels better

Westin was rescued at Westin Hotels & Resorts by guests. She had given birth on hotel grounds. As you can see she is one happy girl and will be even happier in a home. Please consider adopting a teenage or adult dog. Much less hassle than a puppy. They deserve a home too and will adapt quickly and also learn. Our shelters are open everyday for adoption. Today a lucky few from our South shelter, got to travel by car and enjoy the beach and the sea and they absolutely loved it. 2 puppies in the video are for adoption. They can swim, travel well by car, can chill at the beach and will follow their owner anywhere! Please adopt from PAWS South shelter.

Our Story

PAWS 1999-2019 20 YEARS OF EXISTENCE

20 years of advocating sterilisation of pets and strays as the ONLY humane and sustainable solution to the overpopulation of dogs and cats in Mauritius.

20 years of educating Mauritius on responsible pet ownership, the importance of sterilisation and vaccination and that dogs and cats are sentient beings who should be treated like family members.

In 1999 PAWS pioneered animal welfare fieldwork and advocated a national sterilisation campaign, supported by a vigorous education program in schools, community centers and corporations. PAWS believe that sterilization and education is the only humane and sustainable solution to the overpopulation of dogs and cats in Mauritius.
