PAWS, is a Mauritian community driven animal welfare organization with no affiliation to any political, ethnic or religious group.

We are a transparent CSR-accredited NGO and are totally reliant on public donations and CSR sponsorship. PAWS Mauritius runs 2 no-kill shelters for dogs and cats in distress. At any one time we have some 200 animals under our care. We also have 2 low-cost veterinary clinics and organise sterilisation (spay) days across the island. We rely on the public generosity and we are also registered to rece

On the last day of 2024, we rescued 3 puppies dumped in Roches Noires. 4 had been dumped and 1 died.

Every day of 2024, puppies and kittens are abandoned to their fate, sick pets are dumped instead of getting care, old dogs thrown out like old socks.

Will 2025 be the same? Yes of course. Because human beings do not change overnight just because the date is January 1st.

So it will only be a Happy 2025 if there is REAL CHANGE: free island-wide mass sterilisation for pets and strays, education in schools on animal welfare, enforced laws to protect our animals against human cruelty, affordable veterinary care.

The change starts with each and everyone of us. And a shared resolve to make Mauritius a better place for animals, one step 🐾 at a time.

So we wish 2025 to be a better year for our animals and that we can all work hard to make it so. Happy New Better Year!

Barely 4 weeks old and already abandoned and injured his eye. Little pup had to undergo emergency surgery today to remove the eye.

Superb adoption day today at La City Trianon! 5 chubby pups 🐶 and 2 kittens 🐈‍⬛ found homes. Owners have been briefed to keep all their new pets indoors because of fireworks.
A huge thanks to La City Trianon and David for helping us all throughout 2024. It means a lot as we need busy malls to raise awareness on the plight of stray dogs and cats of Mauritius and also get good homes for our little angels.
If you donated today or bought a PAWS calendar or a tshirt at our stand, thank you 🙏. Every little cent goes directly back towards the care of our 200+ animals.

We are in La City Trianon today for our LAST adoption event of 2024 (11am until 2pm). Puppies and kittens needing homes are coming. Also your chance to get the PAWS 2025 calendars at only Rs250 to buy 5 meals for a shelter dog or cat!

You can also adopt at our shelters. Open for adoption everyday Monday-Saturday until 3.30pm and Sundays-public holidays until noon.

‼️Before adopting, please think carefully. A pet dog or cat is a responsibility for the next 15-20 years. It is a commitment to care for another being. It’s not a toy. So think:
- is everyone at home ok for me to bring a new pet
- will I will put in the time and effort to cook/clean/take for walks/take to the vet when needed
- can I afford to have a pet (food, medication, vet visits)
- a new pet will « faire désordre » until he/she settles into a routine. am I ok with this?
- if my life situation will change soon (leaving country, moving houses, etc) - do not adopt now.

If you have read all the above and you know you will invest your time and care for your new pet, then know you will be rewarded a hundred times for adopting a rescued puppy, kitten, dog or cat. Please come adopt. Thank you 🙏

🎄Maya and Nugget celebrate their first Xmas🎄

Maya was a stray mom with a litter of pups from Le Bouchon Beach. Nugget was born with only 3 legs and was a stray pup found in a parking lot.
Both are cherished pets now, living indoors with their pack and spoiled to bits. And they deserve it.

Xmas is about caring and sharing. Just look at Maya’s face: she knows, now life is going to be A-OK!

Our Story

PAWS 1999-2019 20 YEARS OF EXISTENCE

20 years of advocating sterilisation of pets and strays as the ONLY humane and sustainable solution to the overpopulation of dogs and cats in Mauritius.

20 years of educating Mauritius on responsible pet ownership, the importance of sterilisation and vaccination and that dogs and cats are sentient beings who should be treated like family members.

In 1999 PAWS pioneered animal welfare fieldwork and advocated a national sterilisation campaign, supported by a vigorous education program in schools, community centers and corporations. PAWS believe that sterilization and education is the only humane and sustainable solution to the overpopulation of dogs and cats in Mauritius.
