Huitlacoche, also known as Mexican truffle or corn s**t, is a unique delicacy that has intrigued food enthusiasts for centuries.

This fungus grows on corn, particularly in hot and humid conditions, causing the kernels to swell into large, blue-black growths. While its appearance might be off-putting to some, huitlacoche transforms into a culinary delight when cooked.

Its flavor is often described as a mix of mushrooms, fresh corn, and black truffles, creating a taste that is both complex and delicious.

The history of huitlacoche dates back to the indigenous cultures of Mexico, including the Aztecs, who valued it for its rich flavor and nutritional benefits.

Today, some farmers intentionally infect their cornfields to cultivate this prized fungus, recognizing its potential as a gourmet ingredient.

Amino Acid Codon Wheel / Chart.

A codon chart or table is used as a reference tool that correlates specific codons with the corresponding amino acids they encode.

The chart helps to decipher the genetic code and understand which amino acids are synthesized based on the sequence of nucleotides.

In total, there are 64 possible codons.

Out of these, 61 codons correspond to the 20 different amino acids and the remaining three are stop codons that signal the end of protein synthesis.

In the chart, we can see that a single amino acid can be coded by multiple codons, so the genetic code is redundant or degenerate.

For example, the codons CCU, CCC, CCA, and CCG all code for the same amino acid proline.

The codon chart outlines the various codon combinations and their corresponding amino acids.

To use the codon chart, for example, if the first codon position contains uracil (U), the second contains adenine (A), and the third contains cytosine (C), the resulting codon, UAC, represents the amino acid tyrosine.

Start codons are codons within an mRNA molecule that indicate the start of protein translation.

AUG is the most common start codon and serves as the start signal for translation initiation.

In eukaryotes, AUG codes for the amino acid methionine (Met), while in prokaryotes, AUG codes for formyl methionine (fMet).

Out of the total 64 codons, there are three codons that do not specify or correspond to any amino acids. These codons are known as stop codons.

Stop codons, also called termination or nonsense codons, serve as signals to terminate the process of protein synthesis during translation.

The three stop codons are UAA, UAG, and UGA.

ID: Oedipina carablanca (Salamandra de los Diamantes / Salamandra Lombriz de Cara Blanca)

Posiblemente la Salamandra más hermosa que jamás había visto, aún no supero este increíble momento.

Oedipina carablanca es una Salamandra sumamente rara y endémica de Costa Rica, habita un pequeño sector de la vertiente del Caribe entre Guápiles y Siquirres de Limón.
Su comportamiento es terrestre y arborícola, durante la época seca suele encontrarse enterrada bajo troncos podridos y la hojarasca, pero en época lluviosa, especialmente por las noches es cuando sale y se trepa a la vegetación.
Esta Salamandra es inconfundible, sólo O carablanca tiene ese dorso oscuro cubierto de manchas blancas, ninguna otra Salamandra en el país es similar.
Agradezco enormemente a Kenneth qué nos ayudó a encontrar esta belleza y nos brindó más información sobre este bicho tan poco conocido.

The study also uncovered 7,209 structural variations, shedding light on traits like anthocyanin synthesis, which affects leaf coloration. To support ongoing research, an Ananas Genome Database has been launched, offering a comprehensive resource for pineapple genomics.
