Join our RB Family!

We need one more person to join our RB Family before high season starts. This is an amazing opportunity for the right person. But loving horses and riding is not enough. You have to be prepared to work long days with hard physical work, sometimes in pouring rain, sometimes in tiring heat and humidity. You can choose to work between 3 and 6 days per week though, so there will be time to rest (or have another job) in between work days. If you absoutely love animals (specifically horses and dogs) and nature, and love providing top-notch service to people, this is a dream job (or rather a lifestyle!) There will be times when you have to stay late because there's an emergency with a horse, and there will be times when you're absolutely exhausted when you get home, but there will also be moments of so much love, beauty, and satisfaction that your heart will almost burst of happiness. Could this be for you? Or maybe someone you know?
Send us an short email ([email protected]) and let us know why you would like to be part of RB Family.

***RB Story part 2***

This is the second of a series of posts about the history of Rancho Baaxal (this might very well become "The Neverending Story" 😉)
P.S. Just to clarify, when I talk about "coke" in the video, I am not talking about Coca-Cola, but actually co***ne...)

***RB Story part 1***

This is the first of a series of posts about the history of Rancho Baaxal. This video was first posted a few weeks ago, but was cut short by Facebook after a few days, so in case you want to watch the first part, here is the full version again, since we will be posting part 2 very shortly. Rancho Baaxal was founded in 2008, but the story begins much earlier. I hope you'll enjoy hearing how it all started.

Bummer!
Apparently Facebook cut our video short after posting it yesterday, so here is the full version. For those of you who watched the cut-off video, you can fast forward to 1:25 to continue watching. I'm really sorry about this, and hope you'll enjoy watching the full video.

Be careful what you wish for... or When it rains it pours... 🌧 ☔️

I'm very sorry about the long silence, but the last weeks have been very, very hard, and since I've been running the show alone this last month, I have not had time for anything but the absolutely necessary.

After months of extreme heat and drought, we were BEGGING for rain... and rain we got.. more than we could have imagined. So much in fact that it led to lots and lots of additional problems. One being a tree that fell over a roof where I had put 4 of our horses for shelter for a few nights, precisely due to the heavy rain. Coming in to that sight in the morning was NOT fun at all. The seconds that passed not knowing if the horses were OK felt like hours. Incredibly enough they were all fine. A couple of days later I hired some guys to help remove that tree, plus some that had fallen over our trails. The guys came equipped with a chain saw, flip flops, and beers... not exactly the best safety equipment... We have also had several injured horses the last weeks, a completely flooded access road, rain, and more rain, thunder, mold on absoutely everything, concrete posts breaking down due to the humidity, mud and water everywhere, making it really hard to work. We now have tons of repair work to do, and several vet bills to pay, and would be incredibly grateful if you are able to help us out a little, as we are already struggling very much financially.

There have been good things too, of course, like beautiful and fun rides in the rain or in the water, a monkey visiting us at the ranch several times, and some amazing guests visiting from all over. I'll post more pictures and videos within the next days.

Thank you again for always being there for us!

Lisa

Last week we had a dental day here at the ranch. For someone who hates going to the dentist this does not look like fun at all, but it will certainly help the horses tremendously to get rid of painful sharp teeth that hurt their mouths, and will make it so much easier to chew and benefit from what they eat. Thank you to our wonderful vets Tonatiuh Ramos and Arturo Cebado.

Matching the right rider with the right horse is of utmost importance, and that's why we ask for a lot of information when you book a ride with us. This might not be what we're after, but I think we unconsciously pulled off a pretty good match here, don't you think? 😉 💜

A couple of days ago, I was just about to leave the ranch when I found Rey in a strange position and scratching the ground. I knew right away that meant he was beginning to colic and contacted the vet for instructions. After getting some medication and a lot of handwalking, he finally got some gas out (which was causing his pain), and he felt so much better. When a horse stretches out like in the video, it is most likely trying to alleviate pain, while scratching the ground is another symptom. Knowing these things and noticing them as early as possible can save your horse's life. This happened on the anniversary of Poderoso's passing last year, which was a strange coincidence since we luckily haven't had many emergencies lately (crossing our fingers it will stay this way!) Rey is fully recovered now ❤️

It's impossible to not love this teddy bear of a dog! Valentin is enjoying his spot in the sun on a Saturday afternoon. The first time I saw this dog he had been dumped on the streets of Playa del Carmen; he was so weak that he could hardly walk and he was covered with ticks (I remember we stopped counting after getting to a few hundred!) Nowadays he's enjoying his life at our ranch and gets a lot of TLC every day.
Happy weekend!
