Donna had given up hope of seeing her beloved 19-year-old cat Chocolate Bear again after he went missing two and a half years ago – until a call from Vets4Pets Bridlington told her that he'd been found thanks to his microchip.

Donna, who's had him since he was a kitten, put up missing posters around the town and posted appeals on Facebook without any luck. So she says she was absolutely stunned when the practice told her he'd been handed in just half a mile away from home. She said: "I was totally shocked when I was told that he'd been found. I'd assumed he'd died. It always bugged me that we never knew what happened to him. I think he must have been living feral."

After being cared for by the practice for a week, Chocolate Bear is settling in well at home, and is never far from Donna's side. She said: "He looks more like his old self now as his fur has grown back and he's put on a bit of weight. It's just so nice to have him back. The team at Vets for Pets have been brilliant and will always get an appointment for him."

Practice manager Kelly said: "We love Chocolate Bear to bits – he’s the success story of the year. When he first came in he was purring. We all fell in love with him instantly."

Vet Laura from Vets4Pets York Clifton Moor was all smiles as she celebrated the end of seven-year-old Heidi’s chemotherapy journey.

Heidi’s owner Alice brought the burnese mountain dog into the practice after noticing she was wheezing and had lumps around her neck. Tests revealed that Heidi had lymphoma, and after discussing options with Alice, vet Laura put Heidi on a 19-week course of steroids and chemotherapy. To everyone’s relief, by week nine, Heidi had gone into remission.

Laura said: “Remission means that the lymph nodes are going back to normal size, and by week nine, Heidi showed no more physical signs. She completed her full course of chemotherapy, and now we’ll keep monitoring her for any signs of it returning.”

Alice recently celebrated Heidi’s seventh birthday, a milestone she never thought she’d reach. She said: “When Heidi was first diagnosed, I didn’t think she would make it through the weekend. Laura has been absolutely superb - she really showed a holistic understanding not just for treating the animal in front of her but looking after the whole family.”

Although Laura and the team are thrilled for Heidi’s progress, they will miss her visits. Laura said: “Heidi came in every Wednesday for treatment, and it was really nice coming in and knowing it was going to be a Heidi day. We are all so attached to her.”

Here's assistance dog Barney with best friend Reggie and Pets at Home colleague Matt. They popped into Pets at Home Gillingham to fit Reggie with a new harness after she wriggled out of her old one.

Reggie needed a new harness after she managed to wriggle out of her old one when on a weekend walk, so Barney’s owner, Hazel, drove both dogs and owners to Pets at Home Gillingham to see if they could find a new one. Our colleague Matt was on hand to give advice on the best harness and made sure both dogs were given plenty of treats and attention. Hazel said: “Matt was so helpful in choosing Reggie’s new harness and advising us how to adjust it so she can't wriggle out of this one. My friend ended up buying it, and Reggie walked out proudly wearing it.”

Eight-year-old Barney, who also volunteers for Pets As Therapy, is a regular visitor to our Gillingham Pet Care Centre with owner Hazel. She said: “I’ve been bringing Barney to Pets at Home Gillingham since he was a puppy. He loves to carry my shopping bag, and everyone knows him. It's great that everything is in one place – he’s also signed up with the vets and groomers there.”

A big congratulations to seven-year-old Crue who was one of the winners of our Pets Magazine competition to win a giant Squishmallows spaniel toy.

Crue’s mum, Rachael, always picks up a free Pets Magazine when she stops by Pets at Home Derby for dog food for her pomeranians Enzo and Ari. She said: “I always grab the magazine so Crue can have the My Pet Pals section - it's full of fun activities for kids. When he saw the competition about sending in a picture with your pet, he immediately wanted to enter. He chose his favourite picture of him and Enzo from my phone. He was made up when his Squishmallows spaniel toy arrived – it's been on his bed ever since.”

Animal lover Crue, said: “I love Squishmallows a lot so when I saw that I had won one I was so excited. I gave Enzo a big hug and told him well done. He’s on my bed with all my other teddies, I tuck them up under my quilt.”

Despite having multiple beds around the house, Raff’s favourite is still the very first bed that owner Lauren bought him from Pets at Home when she rescued him eight years ago.

When Lauren first rescued the parson russell terrier mix eight years ago from an unsuitable home, all he had with him was an old blanket. She quickly headed to Pets at Home to grab all the essentials, including a dog bed which is still going strong today. Lauren says that over the years she’s bought Raff other beds, but this bed is always his number one choice.

She said: “I’ve bought other beds for Raff so he can have options around the house, but he always chooses to sleep in that first one. He’s loved it since day one. I only bought it because it was on sale for around £36, but it turned out to be the best £36 I’ve ever spent. It’s been in and out of the wash, comes absolutely everywhere with us and yet it just keeps on living. It’s definitely been the best value for money.”
