Casa Sheila Animal Welfare is a non-profit organization focused on the proper care of animals in homes and on the streets of Los Cabos. We are run by a passionate and dedicated group of volunteers. Having been in animal rescue for many years, it became very obvious by the sheer numbers of animals that much more needed to be done than rescue. After closing a shelter, it was determined that concentr

ating on spay/neuter campaigns was the only solution. Our goal is 1000 animals through a series of 3 to 4 monthly clinics in the same place. It takes a huge effort for every clinic with between 40 and 50 volunteers and a team of vets. Our group is named after Sheila Marshall who was a huge advocate of animals for 30 years and was the mentor and shelter partner with our current president. Her passion of working within the community, educating as she went along is one of our founding principles. She encouraged and adopted animals to many families keeping an eagle eye on the care of her charges. While we do concentrate on clinics, being a group of animal lovers, there is bound to be some rescuing involved. Our animals are only in foster situations until adopted however. They get socialized and a lot of attention by our amazing fosters. We have very strict guidelines in rescue, without fail, every single animal is fully tested, wormed, given flea and tick meds, vaccinated and sterilized. As you can imagine, each animal costs a lot of money as they typically come to us with many physical issues. Case Sheila has a $175 USD adoption fee to cover our vet costs, special considerations to the fee are applied for the perfect fit. Please go to our photo section, click on albums and then adoptable animals to find your new best friend. The sheer numbers of animals having puppies and kittens is overwhelming, with that, comes many diseases that spread swiftly, that is why we need your help! Please, each clinic costs us a minimum of $5500 US dollars and we cannot do it without your help! We have many people working nonstop to prepare for every clinic volunteering many hours every week to have a seamless clinic, feeding the volunteers, vets and the people waiting is always a priority, we also need water, drinks and snacks to keep up energy as it is usually a 12 hour day. We also always need volunteers for various jobs including the clinics but also airport runs, vet visits, fosters and many day to day activities not to mention all the events it takes to earn funds. Please, everyone can help in some small(or large) way!

I was talking to Geraldine Gilliland this morning and I came to a realization. Anyone who does rescue right is my hero. One of many things Spaying For Change has taught me is that there are unsung heroes all around us who quietly(or in my case, loudly) cry for help for the animals. I have talked to people all over who have rescued for years, yes, it makes a difference for many every year but the problem of overpopulation worldwide has made it so rescues can't take on a fraction of those that need help. More and more rescues are contacting us seeing the wave of the future is to do clinics whether it is small weekly clinics or large ones, it is critical for the health of all to concentrate on the source of the problem. I know, that would be the irresponsible owners but we cant spay/neuter them(yet!). Our heroes like Kathleen from Woofs and Wags who gets up every day at 3 am to cross the border to feed and care for 40+ dogs and then drives all over the Northwest US to get them to new homes. These people make no money, every dime goes to vet bills, food and care. What are you willing to do for the animals? Most people cant imagine the dedication it takes, you dont get vacations, no sick days, people yelling at you because you cant take another dog or cat and the list goes on. This year, Spaying for Change will be a lot larger, be a part of the solution, donate, help get animals sterilized at our clinics, donate, dont turn a blind eye to the problem and donate to the cause! How can you look at this face and then go buy a puppy? Can you understand my anger when every day I see the results of the Christmas puppy loosing its shine, the "lets buy a puppy" instead of "lets adopt a puppy" mentality. No excuse in the world will make me understand how a person can look at thousands in need and buy a pup from someone who doesnt know jack squat about the breed, they just want your money. Every single breed can be found in rescue, NO EXCUSES!

Dear Santa! Casa Sheila has been very good this year so we are writing this letter to let you know what we would really, really like! We need more tents, after 4 years, the ones we have now are getting creaky and difficult! We cant have the simple canapys, we need beefy tents with sides or they only last a couple clinics, they get used alot! We would welcome them from Santa's helpers too😉! If you are in the giving mood, Sandy needs a 16 hand buckskin Andalusian stallion, a house in Tuscany and a car😁!

Adoptable Blondie!

Here is what her foster parents have to say:
“Friends. Meet Blondie. She is the most precious 3 year old, little girl and she’s available for adoption. Literally the sweetest dog ever - very calm, gentle and dainty. Like a little ballerina. Dog perfection. She is very quiet, has the cutest smile and is super tiny at only 17lbs. Pictures don’t do her justice….she’s stunning. 💖🐾”

Our education program is a big part of what Casa Sheila does. Teaching kids proper care, the need to spay/neuter, body language of dogs and treating dogs and cats like family is of utmost importance. Teach them young, they get it! Thanks to Mariana Lemus , Rick Wulff , Marisa de Pablo and of course Miss Pinky for taking time out of your day to reach a vital part of our community.
