Malaysia has just held its first open trial (aka examination) for working dogs who train protection work using bite suits. This is the first time such a trial has been held in Malaysia.
Why are trials important? Because it is quality control. It is a test of whether your dog is strong enough to protect its owner under severe threat from the bad guy but also whether your training is good enough to maintain control of that dog despite overwhelming pressure and distractions. PSA Protection Sports Association (PSA Official) is one of the most demanding and difficult examinations in the world, their headquarters are based in the USA, and only 46 dogs amongst thousands who have tried for the exams have achieved its highest award of PSA 3 in its 25 year history. Our trial was open to ALL dog trainers who train dogs using bite suits and/or for real life protection functions. 4 brave individuals stepped forward and to place their names in Malaysian history books.
They are
Iris Chia (IGP trained dog)
Yaw Horng Yaw Wong (IGP trained dog)
Dominic Wong (Dominic Wong) with Genting K9 Unit Val Santhana Catura K9 Services (Police K9)
Dr Tho (personal protection dog)
The challenges to train for this trial were very significant due to the difficulty of the examination requirements. In the trial, they were examined by an international faculty of judges and decoys (people who wear bite suits to βattackβ the owners and dogs) from the USA, Australia and India. But together they persevered and have placed Malaysia on the world working dog map. You all have done our country proud - tahniah!
