Did you know there are different types of anchovies? We didn't either, but apparently there are. 🤣🤣

We recently managed to source these nasi lemak-looking anchovies, and love how they look and smell after the fd process! They really do look different from the usually flat, wider anchovies we can get, yet with all the same benefits.

With a low mercurial content due to its small size, anchovies are the perfect omega-3 boost snack for your kiddos!

Did you know we also freeze dry this nutritional powerhouse here at The Meat Bar? We used to freeze dry them in rolls, but realized it was much easier to grind and then freeze dry them. Now they are in chunks after drying, but very easily broken by hand to crumble as a nutritious raw topper over your kiddos regular food, or as a high value treat!

Our steamed handcut veggies remind us so much about rainbows, we're quite certain they will look absolutely beautiful as decorations for parties or cakes - delicious decorations at that 😜 they are perfect little morsels of yums for our furry kitties or pups who have protein restrictions or calorie restriction diets, but we've also had plenty of other puppers who love it anyhow. Have you tried it?

Before you ask - No, our custom orders aren't opened yet, sorry!

But for newcomers, we at The Meat Bar do custom orders! We love working with themes and ideas you have to prepare party packs, special meals or more depending on specific allergies or sensitivities your kiddo has.

However, we have time and machine space limitations, and once we accept too many custom orders, it might delay production of our standard menu items. It is why we have decided to open only limited customization slots a year, and none will open after all slots are taken for the year! Our 2024 slots will open towards the end of the year, so keep an eye out for our IGS then! ☺️

The freeze drying process results in water losses that helps the food to have a longer shelf life, since a lack of moisture makes it inhospitable for growth of bacteria and microorganisms. But they can be quickly rehydrated once you add water, and is a great way to get your pets to drink more!

Staring at you with beady eyes - our freeze dried pomfrets! We get baby ones so they contain less mercurial load, and freeze dry them whole. It means when you feed them, not only do you get the omega-3 benefits of seafood, but it also works as somewhat of a whole prey!

Psst, humans can pop them in the dehydrator for abit with a sprinkle of salt for a nice savory hoomin snack. 😝

If you have not - here's why you should! They provide such a novelty enrichment snack, a new experience in their little lives! If its your first time and they can't seem to tell if its friend or food, try chopping it up to expose the insides for them 😉

Oh squeamish mamas and papas of the kitties or pups, if you don't wanna touch them, chopsticks or tongs are your best friend 🤪

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, we believe! Sourcing only from suppliers of meat we would eat in our own kitchens, to providing the kind of treats we had wanted to feed our own pets, we strive to provide the best for your dawgs and kits (and maybe some crows and rabbits too, apparently 🤣). Nothing means more to us then watching the happy faces of your pets while they eat something that tastes good, while we can rest easy knowing it IS good for them too!

Our very classic bone mousse!

They contain 50% muscle meat blended with 50% bone, but the bone has been cooked so soft, it is easily blended into mousse form - hence the name bone mousse ✨

The glucosamine and chondroitin in it comes from using mostly bone marrows, so they are rich not only in protein, but calcium as well. Swipe to find out more!

With high levels of chondroitin and glucosamine (both compounds known to support joint health) as well as a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, they will help to reduce inflammation, improve joint mobility and reduce pain! While more research is still needed to fully understand the effects, there have been studies that back up the improvement of joint pain and mobility when participants were supplemented with chondroitin and glucosamine, which are both richly found in the green mussels itself. It is still important to consult your veterinary professional if severe pain is present, but feeding this plump shellfish may greatly help your canine's joint health and provide pain relief!

While dogs and cats primarily need protein and a meat based diet, some do benefit from the addition of vegetables into their diets! Our handcut steamed vegetables include as many colors of the rainbow as we can (but all safe for them!), so our furry loved ones can benefit from the phytonutrients, antioxidants and fibre within them!

Low-fat, low protein, low phosphorus and high in fibre, these low calorie snacks are also perfect for kitties or pups who are looking to shed some pounds, or even those who are on a restricted protein diet due to therapeutic conditions.

Unlike dehydration, freeze drying vegetables locks in the nutrition, taste, value and heat sensitive compounds that may otherwise have been lost in the heating used in dehydrating. With the liquids removed, this also delays the deterioration of the product, extending its shelf life, and making it simple and convenient for you too! Have you tried it? Or maybe you want to now. The answer to our IG story quiz today - this is our freeze dried beef green tripe before we powder it up into sparkles!

Its not the superfood everyone touts it to be, but in a pinch (if supplements are unavailable and seafood is off the table), it can work as a source of manganese! Manganese is very important to ensure the body forms connective tissues, bone, and ensure blood clotting works. Did you know it is one of the few non bone sources that has a calcium content over 50mg per 100g? Plus point is: the dogs and cats seem to love it 🥰

A word of caution: it smells baddd (okay slightly better after drying), and the smell tends to linger on hands so handle with caution!

Did you know❓

The ostrich is the largest living bird in the world, and one ostrich egg 🥚 is equivalent to almost 24 regular sized chicken eggs! With a shell thickness of 3mm, and 2000 calories per egg, we do 𝑵𝑶𝑻 recommend you feeding a whole egg to your furry kid (this is why we sell them by 50g packs 😉)

Compared to chicken eggs 🍳, while they have similar vitamin mark-ups, ostrich eggs do contain less vitamin E and A then chicken eggs, while being richer in magnesium and iron, and almost no sodium at all (good choice for furry ones with sodium concerns!)

Fun fact: Female ostriches only lay eggs after turning 2 - 2.5 years old, and must have optimal conditions for egg laying to happen (a warm and dry climate). This means rainy ☔️ season would usually see a drop in ostrich egg productions, which is why our ostrich eggs tend to be somewhat seasonally in stock, depending on the... er, mood of the ostriches.

𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞... 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐝𝐞𝐫?

Yes! We freeze dried some golden paste! 🤪 Made of turmeric powder, coconut oil and black pepper, the curcumin in the turmeric powder is what gives it its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties.

We specifically use turmeric with 5.7% curcumin content to maximise benefits, with the black pepper used as the piperine source. The curcumin doesn't stay in the body for long so feeding small amounts throughout the day yields better benefits over feeding it once a day!

Its RM65 for a 50g pack, but do introduce it carefully to prevent upset tummies (please also consult with vets if furkid is on medications, as if may interferes with some medicine efficacy).

The next most commonly used secreting organ in raw diets after liver, kidneys from different animals have different benefits! 🐽 kidney for example, is super rich in selenium!

The smell when they are cooked though 🤢 good thing we don't get the same experience in the freeze drying process.

Did you know we also have the harder to find kidneys you don't commonly find in the market? Rabbit kidneys are also super cute. Look like tiny red beans 😋

Eggs are one of the most nutritionally complete and easily digested foods available. Downside is that they arent suitable for kiddos who need to limit calories, fats, and/or phosphorus intakea0 - all of which are rich in the yolk. Egg whites, on the other hand, has negligible amounts and is a great source of easily digestible protein.

🥚How we prep our whites When prepped without yolks, our egg whites are steamed. This is crucial in preventing interference with biotin absorption which promotes metabolic processes, healthy coat, skin and nails.
Natural food is mixed with egg white to make them appetising. We have whites mixed with goat milk as standard (price in menu), and we are happy to work with you for other ingredients of your choice. Just pm us!!

What do you think has to be considered when we set or decide our drying times? It was a long road with many fails (which all ended up in the stomachs of our happy furkids), because everything from thickness of meat, protein type, sizes and more which will throw many many variables into the drying time! Have you ever thought that maybe mussels help you get... muscles? 🤫 Okay not really. 🤣 But clinical studies do show that consistent consumption of green mussels helps in improving mobility of arthritic individuals as well as reducing joint pain and decreasing inflammation. The freeze dried form crumbles easily so it can easily be added into meals too if you need to hide it!

While it is hard to have a general recommendation for every furry friend (everyone has their own individualistic likes and dislikes!), we tend to ask a few questions before recommending them! Fussy furkids tend to like the stronger smelling ones, so red meats or freeze dried hards might appeal to them. Small kitties would love our small, bite sized treats like training treats or meat strips. High energy animals may benefit from our chews, so look over at our durable chew range and see what rocks their boat. For our lovely seniors, the more sedate lifestyle and slower metabolism means they may benefit from our low fat, low calorie range so our freeze dried vegetables, sweet potatoes or chicken breast may work best! No matter what it is, our aim has always been to provide the yummiest treats for the cutest furry companions in our lives, while trying to make it as fuss free and convenient as possible for the hardworking hoomins, so feel free to slide into our DM’s if you need further details to make your choice!

It is the ✨ worst ✨ time for us to have machine issues. Freeze dryers are infamous for being very finicky machines. We has a dryer that was out of commission for almost 1 year before! The parts to replace/fix them come almost all from the US, which means the cost of fixing them is also💸💸💸 The benefit of having more then one machine is when they breakdown for different reasons, we can swap parts to hopefully get one working one out of 2 sick machines. 🥺 @princess_cookie_monkey asked for more behind the scenes and this is 50% of our behind the scenes - praying our machines to work. 😂😅

We're sure everyone has had to face order delays from us more then once before, and we always always apologise 🥺 But we're going to be real here and say freeze drying these finicky meats can be, and still is sometimes, a trial and error process. Sometimes a change of weather, a different batch of birds, different supplier, different feeds, all contribute to a change that leads to excessive fat, not drying enough (and gets put in for another round), too much cracking.... and so much more. 😵‍💫 we spend so much time cracking our heads and would like to extend our immense gratitude to everyone for always having such patience with us as we ensure you get only the best quality treats! ♥️
