Freeze-drying or lyophilization removes moisture 💦 from raw, frozen product through a vacuum system and the process is called sublimation.
This (very very ⏰ time-consuming) process prevents food from spoiling, while maintaining most of its flavour, color, texture and researchers conclude that the amount of nutrient lost from freeze-drying is 👉🏻👈🏻miniscule!
This is exactly why space food is freeze-dried. Oh and hoomans, did you know NASA’s freeze-dried ice cream 🍨 sandwich is super yums too? 🤤#justsaying
