Earth bounty! Have a look at the incredible harvest from our Harnas garden 🥬🍅 Our garden is just one of the many ways we try to be more sustainable. Local produce means less carbon footprint and fresher, healthier meals for everyone! By growing our own food, we reduce the need for long-distance transportation, cutting down on emissions and supporting biodiversity. Every seed we plant contributes to a more sustainable future.

Today, we honour the memory of a remarkable man, Tommy Collard - a true expert and conservationist, lovingly referred to by Dr. Rudie and Marlice van Vuuren as the Diamond of the Namib Desert. His deep knowledge of Namibia’s landscapes and unwavering passion for the living in the desert left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know him.

Tommy was more than a friend - he was an inspiration. His dedication to preserving the beauty and integrity of Namibia's deserts reflected a heart as vast and resilient as the landscapes he loved. We will forever cherish the time spent with him, especially our adventures together in Wild Jobs Namibia - Groen. Tommy’s legacy will continue to inspire conservationists for generations to come." - Dr. Rudie and Marlice van Vuuren.

From everyone at Naankuse, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Tommy’s family. May his spirit live on in the wild places he so passionately protected.

Celebrating Women in Science at Naankuse!

On this International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we proudly recognise the incredible contributions of Tanja Baetcke-Vilho, our Research Manager, and Sarafina Conrad, Research Volunteer Coordinator. Their dedication to scientific research plays a pivotal role in the conservation of Namibia’s wildlife, landscapes, and cultures.

At Naankuse, research is at the heart of everything we do. By systematically gathering data and applying scientific methods, our team contributes to evidence-based solutions that help protect and preserve Namibia for future generations.

Whether it's studying animal behaviour, monitoring ecosystems, or fostering sustainable human-wildlife coexistence, the research led by women in science like Tanja, Sarafina and the entire Naankuse team is shaping a better, more sustainable Namibia.

Let’s celebrate their passion, knowledge, and the vital role of all women in science are playing in driving conservation forward!

Meet the African Bullfrog, one of nature’s most fascinating amphibians!

Known for their impressive size, these giants can grow up to 25 centimetres and weigh over a kilogram. But do not let their round, chubby appearance fool you – they are fierce predators, capable of taking down insects, small birds, and even other frogs.

African Bullfrogs are also exceptional parents. Male bullfrogs fiercely protect their tadpoles, even digging channels to help them reach water during dry spells. Talk about dedication!

These incredible creatures are a reminder of the unique biodiversity we are privileged to protect.
