Ostrich or Duck? You Decide!

Meet our resident ostrich who's having an identity crisis and pretending to be a duck! Watch as this big bird enjoys a splash in the pond, showing us that sometimes it's fun to break the rules and just go with the flow.

Whether it's waddling in the water or flaunting those feathers, this ostrich is definitely making a splash!

Baboon Enrichment Alert!

Introducing "Jungle on a Box," a creative enrichment activity for our beloved baboons, Buddy and Lettie! With the help of our dedicated volunteers, we filled boxes with a variety of fruits and covered them with branches and leaves from different trees around Harnas. This activity falls under the category of food and cognitive enrichment, and we’re thrilled to report that Buddy and Lettie absolutely loved it!

Watching them explore, forage, and enjoy their fruity treasure hunt brings us immense joy and satisfaction. Enrichment activities like this are crucial for their mental and physical well-being, keeping them engaged and happy.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to provide the best care and enrichment for all our wildlife residents!

Update on Olivia the Oryx!

Olivia is growing fast and thriving in her new grassy area, where she's learning to graze naturally. She loves nibbling on grass and enjoys lucerne pellets as a dessert after her regular milk feedings.

It's incredible to watch her progress and see her curiosity and energy blossom. Thank you for being part of Olivia's journey and supporting the care we provide for her and many others at Harnas Wildlife Foundation!

At Harnas Wildlife Foundation, we believe in enriching the lives of our resident birds with nutritious and engaging treats! We crafted delicious fruit and veggie kebabs for them, packed with vitamins and minerals essential for their health and happiness.

Did you know? Providing a diverse diet not only meets the nutritional needs of our birds but also stimulates their natural foraging behaviours, keeping them active and mentally stimulated. It's a joy to see them pecking away at these colorful kebabs, savouring every bite.

By supporting Harnas, you help us continue to provide such enriching experiences for our wildlife. Thank you for being a part of our mission to protect and nurture these incredible creatures!

We think they’re onto us…

At the Naankuse Foundation we use camera traps to monitor the wildlife of the bushveld. These non-invasive eyes of the bush secretly snap the action. But we have a feeling the animals have discovered these contraptions and have decided to have some fun. There’s nothing like a good selfie and who can blame them?

Happy birthday, Nala and Zuri!

We thank you for your pawsome dedication to our conservation rangers. You were trained from tiny pups and now stand as courageous K9s. You scent, you track, you attack, when necessary, you run, you leap… and you leapt into our hearts. Your bravery and power perfectly complement our conservation rangers who protect 50,000 collective hectares of valuable habitat – a second chance for rhinos, elephants and so many vulnerable and endangered species. Thank you for your service!

You too can support the K9s of our conservation rangers. Why not donate to our darling dogs in honour of their birthday? It’s the perfect gift for them… and us:

The Harnas Foundation Wildlife Sanctuary is home to many animals… those removed from situations of conflict or orphaned at young ages. Leopard, Dolce, is just one of the furry sanctuary residents who likes nothing more than enjoying her breakfast… with a view. Yes, this beautiful big cat hoists her tasty treats into treetops. Nothing beats dining atop the expanses of the beautiful reserve. Bon appetit!

Olivia Update (Sound On): Our little Oryx is growing by leaps and bounds! She's been moved to a grassy area to encourage her natural grazing behaviour, and she's taken to it like a champ. Olivia loves nibbling on grass and considers lucerne pellets the perfect dessert after her regular milk feedings.

Her wound has healed beautifully, but she still needs a weekly bandage change as we patiently wait for the skin to cover the last bit of tissue. Soon, her body will naturally form a hard pad she can use for stepping. Olivia's progress is heartwarming, and so grateful for all the love and care she's receiving. Stay tuned for more updates on our little darling!

Meet Shiloh, our vibrant 15-year-old lioness at Harnas Wildlife Foundation!
She recently underwent her annual health check and rabies vaccination, and we were thrilled to have Conservation Medicine Course (Consmed) join us with Dr. Rudie van Vuuren, Dr. Lyndsay and Naindji to observe the process. From darting to waking up, everything went smoothly. Shiloh aced her check-up and received her vaccination, along with some extra multivitamins and minerals for the winter months - though she hardly needs them, given her robust health. The photo captures the moment just before she woke up from the procedure. The next morning, she was up and running, eager for her post-check-up meal!

The San of the Kalahari - between two worlds.

Enter the magical world of the San. Well-known French photographer, Anne-Marie Etienne, has created a work of art depicting the dreamlike realm of the incredible San people – those of the world’s most ancient culture.

Proceeds from the sale of the book benefit Namibia’s San through the Naankuse Lifeline Clinic. And our very own Marlice van Vuuren penned the foreword.

For just EUR 49.00 you can give the gift that keeps on giving this Christmas. Order your copy today: https://anne-marie-etienne-photographie.sumupstore.com/...

Between Two Worlds

Well-known French photographer, Anne-Marie Etienne, has created a work of art that exquisitely portrays the lives of the San of the Kalahari. Their magic abounds between the glossy pages of this exclusive book. The Naankuse Foundation is honoured to have collaborated with Anne-Marie; many hours spent with the unique Ancient San Skills Academy at both the N/a'an ku sê Foundation and Harnas in capturing their almost ethereal forms on camera.

The cherry on the top? The foreword is written by none other than our very own Marlice van Vuuren. Part of the proceeds of the sale of the book will support Namibia’s San through the Lifeline Clinic. We couldn’t be prouder!

And Sunday, 3 December, saw Naankuse Lodge host the launch of this epic artwork. The lodge reverberated with the enchanting sounds of the Naankuse Primary School choir and dance group, Marlice gave a moving speech and Anne-Marie herself regaled the audience. We were delighted to welcome French Deputy Head of Mission, Mr Frank Gruetzmacher Tecourt, to the auspicious occasion.

Between Two Worlds can be purchased online here: https://anne-marie-etienne-photographie.sumupstore.com/article/between-two-worlds-the-san-of-kalahari.
It would make an authentic and out-of-this-world Christmas gift.
