The Harnas Foundation Wildlife Sanctuary is home to many animals… those removed from situations of conflict or orphaned at young ages. Leopard, Dolce, is just one of the furry sanctuary residents who likes nothing more than enjoying her breakfast… with a view. Yes, this beautiful big cat hoists her tasty treats into treetops. Nothing beats dining atop the expanses of the beautiful reserve. Bon appetit!

Olivia Update (Sound On): Our little Oryx is growing by leaps and bounds! She's been moved to a grassy area to encourage her natural grazing behaviour, and she's taken to it like a champ. Olivia loves nibbling on grass and considers lucerne pellets the perfect dessert after her regular milk feedings.
Her wound has healed beautifully, but she still needs a weekly bandage change as we patiently wait for the skin to cover the last bit of tissue. Soon, her body will naturally form a hard pad she can use for stepping. Olivia's progress is heartwarming, and so grateful for all the love and care she's receiving. Stay tuned for more updates on our little darling!

Witness the graceful parade of kudus! These majestic antelopes are true masters of elegance as they take strides in perfect unison. Watch in awe as they navigate their habitat with poise and unity.
Fun Fact: Did you know that kudus have incredible hearing? Their large, spiral-shaped horns not only make them look regal but also act as remarkable sound receptors, allowing them to detect even the faintest rustle in the savannah.

From SPCA to soldier!
That’s our Angel. German shepherd, Angel, was rescued from the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) in Henties Bay at Namibia’s coast. And she’s come a long way from rescue dog to splendid soldier. Now part of the anti-poaching unit of the Harnas Wildlife Foundation, our Angel perfectly complements an already daring team. Just look at the bond between handler and K9.

Running a wildlife sanctuary is full of unexpected surprises! Our baboon enclosures had had some uninvited guests – porcupines! These spikey creatures couldn't resist the allure of the baboon and started digging holes.
However, these clever diggers unintentionally created potential escape routes for our baboons, which is definitely not ideal.
To address the situation, they were captured in a humane cage trap. They were then released back into the wild, far away from the baboon enclosures, where they can continue their natural life without posing a threat.

Just look at the new arrivals on the TimBila Nature Reserve by Naankuse in Namibia. Four lion cubs now grace the vast expanses of this protected reserve. But where did the story begin?
It all started with the removal of conflict lions from Namibia’s Torra Conservancy in May 2021. Dubbed the Huab Pride, these lions had suffered during an extreme drought – prey species all but non-existent. Spurred on by hunger, the big cats were approaching local farmsteads, desperate for sustenance. Conflict with man was inevitable, this potentially lethal. Thanks to a number of invaluable supporters, the lions were translocated to the Shiloh Wildlife Sanctuary where their rehabilitation began. The meticulous process of rebuilding their body mass took place at the sanctuary, ultimately seeing prime condition achieved.
The next step? Translocation to the TimBila Nature Reserve by Naankuse where, in September 2022, lionesses of the Huab Pride embraced final freedom.
And now the desert-adapted lionesses have become proud mothers, having brought four cubs into the world.
These four cubs are the epitome of a conservation fairytale – an epically successful example of relocation, rehabilitation and rewilding.
This footage was shot by a field cam, ensuring that our cubs and mothers remain undisturbed.

Cleaning a waterhole is quite a job, especially on a hot day. But the reward for our volunteers is priceless. Once they observe how much the leopard enjoys the fresh water and is happily quenching its thirst, the sweat of their work is all worth it.

The recently built training ground for the Harnas K9 anti-poaching unit is a great addition, forming the perfect classroom to educate our dogs.
Eager anti-poaching dog Robbie is working hard on it but the best part is the reward he gets in the end.
