Couldn’t help myself. Another 9k seeds planted for a follow up field. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It’s addictive to see them grow.

M Y C O R R H I Z A E 🌱💫
It is a fungi that has a harmonious relationship with the roots of many plants. Both parties in this symbiotic relationship benefit from each other. Mycorrhizal fungi prefer to eat the sugars and fats that plants secrete from their roots whereas the plant benefit through the fungi that absorbs nutrients from the soil and then passes it along to the plant. It does also provide protection against soil-borne diseases as well as increase the plant’s tolerance to unfavorable conditions. Mycorrhizae can play an important role in plant health. They are unseen but their effects can be remarkable.

Not too long before winter is over which means that we have to get new seeds in the soil. Thanks to for always trusting me with new trial seeds to test. I surely hope that Lutadora will be one that break barriers in the tomato industry. 🍅
This coming season I will be trying a new variety of tomatoes from - Rafano. I will also be trying indeterminate for the first time, Star9081 from . Pretty excited for the new season to try, test and most importantly to learn.

The cold got to my babes. 😢
Unfortunately with the kiln smoke and other precautions that I went through it just wasn’t enough for the extreme cold that went into the minus. It was the most heartbreaking thing to see because these plants were the most healthy, beautiful and had the most fruit set on than any other harvest I ever had this far. On the bright side most of the fruits are mature and big so I can at least harvest them as they get ripe. But as for the plants they will not be able to produce more or put extra power in to make the small fruits bigger. Better to cut my losses now and prepare for the next sowing which will be around the corner. Thanks to .eaca for quality seeds. This variety, Ansal, might just be a new favorite. Will need to give it another go during warmer weather.

Another successful harvest.

Pruning them tomatoes for a second time. Just cutting off all those old leaves that is more susceptible to getting diseases near the wet soil. I like to see what works and what doesn’t. If it means I made a mistake then it is something I can learn from. Experimenting is good. Hoping for the best.

Supervisor Zola🐾 got a big ol’ sniff of them soil and she approves the excitement for the harvest coming up. We both think that this one is gonna be a cracker of a harvest. Still need to wait about a month or so before the show starts. I am very pleased at the uniformity and colour at this stage. Also have about 8-11 flower buds per hand which is a good indicator for the kg’s per plant. So far no problems with diseases or pests and I want to keep it that way.

A few months back I came across and was amazed at the fact that I have never heard of them before. In December 2023 I started using their services and products to make my life easier with payrolls, time and attendance and so forth. And can I just say- my life was made easier indeed. Their service is top notch. Since I use them my worker’s productivity and efficiency got a boost. No more unnecessary overtime as work gets done quicker and more thorough. Fair pay has got a new jacket and I am here for it.

If you have more than 20 workers that you need to keep track of their time and where they are using that time then is the answer.

To prune a plant is satisfying. Feels like it can breathe again.

Some top tips:
There is no need for pruning determinate tomatoes other than removing all suckers below the first flower cluster. Pruning won’t affect their fruit size or plant vigor. Don’t prune above the first flower cluster as you will be throwing away potential fruit.

My reason for pruning determinate tomatoes is- the less leaves near the soil means less of a chance for those leaves to get a soil borne disease which may spread it up to the rest of the plant. Have been working a few seasons now. Plus the plant looks beautiful.
