Still on Broiler production.

Make your research on any hatchery you want to get your chicks from, make sure the hatchery is one whose breeder stock is free from sickness or any genetic deformity. In Nigeria, Broiler chicks from Amo hatchery, Agrited hatchery and Supreme Hatchery are highly recommended.

Get your chicks vaccinated or immunized from the hatchery and take them to your already prepared brooding pen. Remember the temperature level? 95⁰f, the temperature should be reduced by 5⁰ every week until they're 4 weeks old.

To figure out if the temperature is either too high or too low. If it’s not warm enough, you’ll find them huddling together in the center directly under the heat beam, but if it’s too hot or close to the floor, they’ll scatter out from under the heat. The ideal temperature allows them to move freely about their space, coming back to the edge of the heat to warm up and nap. Raise or lower your brooder light or heater to adjust the temperature: approximately 1 inch per every five degrees. (Use a thermometer to be sure)

Next, provide water, add glucose to the water to boost their energy level. carefully dip each chicks beak in the water to teach them how to .
Note: do not use plates or bowls as drinkers for chicks as they drown easily in this.

Provide feeds in their tray, as Broilers can double size in just 2 days, provide a tray wide enough to accommodate them all feeding at the same time. Feed them with Broiler starter from week 1-8 and broiler finisher till market size.

Although 24-hour light increases feeding time and weight gain, and helps broilers feather out faster, it can be a good idea to familiarize them with darkness by giving them 10- to 15-minute periods without light. This can help prevent panic or death by piling up on each other in the event of a power outage.

Next is daily routine and occasional routine to keep the birds healthy.

If you followed till this stage, I'm sure you've learnt a lot. Like, share and follow.

Broiler production might seem like a tough process especially when you'll be starting from brooding day old but, trust me when I say it's not as difficult as you think if you do it rightly.

To begin with, you need to set down a well ventilated and disinfected pen to house the chicks. The pen must be well spaced so that it can accommodate them even when they grow bigger without stress. Fill the floor if the pen with the right bedding/litter material. litter materials is used to help in proper footing of the chicks and also to absorb their droppings. Litter materials like Hard wood shavings( not saw dust, saw dust is harmful to the chicks) and corn cob shaft are advisable to use.

Next, provide heat source to keep the brooder pen warm and safe for the chicks. 100watts bulb is safe to use and it's advisable to set the brooder room warm for 2 days before the arrival of the chicks. Chicks need to be kept in 95⁰F environment for their first week.

After then, set in the well cleaned feeding and watering troughs (feeder and drinker). Feeders and drinkers should be well cleaned and be contamination free, even if it's a new one, it's advisable to wash and disinfectant them before using them for the new chicks.

Next on is buying and arrival of the chicks, that'll be in the next post. thanks for following.πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŠπŸ’―πŸ’•

Starting a mini poultry farm, Let's break it down into even more detail, shall we? The first step is to decide what type of birds you want to raise. There are a variety of options, including chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys. Once you've decided on the type of birds, you'll need to choose the breed and purpose of breeding of that certain bird type. What do I mean? if it's chicken, we have egg-purpose type, meat-purpose type and dual-purpose type of chickens.

Egg-purpose are layers and noilers, which are bred mainly for their eggs, meat-purpose like Broilers, which are raised mainly for their meat due to their high feed conversion ratio. Dual purpose are raised for both meat and egg, layers and noilers can be considered as a dual purpose chicken type because you can sell them off after they might have reached their old age (old layer) .

Do you know the number one cause of death for backyard chickens? It's not predators or disease - it's coccidiosis. This insidious parasite can go undetected, wreaking havoc on a flock and leaving a trail of dead chickens in its wake. But there is hope! With the right knowledge and care, you can protect your chickens from this deadly disease.

Coccidiosis is a protozoal disease causing diarrhea, ,weight loss and decreased production in poultry. It can be fatal. Prevention is key and is achieved with use of anticoccidials or vaccination.

Common symptoms of coccidiosis include:
β€’ Pale comb.
β€’ Water, mucous and blood in the droppings (blood may be an indication of caecal coccidiosis)
β€’ Ruffled feathers.
β€’ Whitish soiling around the vent (more common in intestinal coccidiosis).

Treatment for coccodiosis is with sulfa drugs like Sulfadimidine and Sulfadiazine or anticoccidial drugs. Amprolium is an anticoccidial drug available without a prescription and is a fast, highly effective treatment for coccidiosis.

Bovine mastitis is an inflammation of the udder in cows. It's a common disease in dairy cows, and it's caused by bacteria that enter the udder through the teat canal. The bacteria can cause the udder to become swollen, red, and painful. The milk from the udder can also become contaminated with bacteria, which can be harmful to humans who drink it.

There are a variety of treatment options for BRD, depending on the severity of the disease and the cause. Antibiotics are often used to treat BRD, and sometimes a combination of antibiotics is needed to clear the infection. In some cases, a vaccine may also be recommended to prevent future infections. In addition to medication, it's important to provide supportive care, such as keeping the cattle warm, dry, and well-fed. Early diagnosis and treatment are key to preventing serious complications from BRD.

Bovine respiratory disease, also known as bovine respiratory complex or shipping fever, is a group of diseases that affect the respiratory system of cattle. The most common cause of BRD is a bacterial infection, but it can also be caused by viruses, fungi, or parasites. Cattle that are exposed to stress, such as shipping, crowding, or weaning, are more likely to develop BRD. Symptoms of BRD include fever, coughing, nasal discharge, and difficulty breathing. If left untreated, BRD can lead to pneumonia and even death.
