Dear all,
Terra Madre Day is Slow Food’s annual day to promote the diversity of food traditions and production, and show how our network is using its creativity and knowledge to express our love for the planet and defend the future for the next generations.

Since 2009, each year on Slow Food’s anniversary, December 10, food communities and Slow Food convivia all around the world celebrate local eating, agricultural biodiversity and sustainable food production. Celebrations take shape with hundreds of events ranging from collective meals, fundraisers, community festivals, protests, workshops for children, excursions to producers, and much more.
Join in the celebrations this year!

"On the 20th of October, 2023, we celebrated World Food Day with a visit to a cooperative vegetable farm “Irewolede multipurpose Farmer's cooperative managed by OYSADA, where the focus was on the vital role of water in agriculture.

The farm relies on a large water source, a dam, which is the only active one among the four large water bodies in Oyo state. Mr. Yinka, the chairman of the farmers' cooperative, highlighted the significance of this water source and the challenges they faced, including a foaming incident caused by toxic chemicals near a tributary.

During the trip, Estate High School students, SFYN Nigeria members, and community members from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan, gained insights into the critical role of water in agriculture and its importance for human sustenance.

This experience underscores the role of youths and children in ensuring safe water access and promoting agricultural sustainability from the grassroots level, aligning with the theme 'Water is Life, Water is Food, leave no one behind' for World Food Day."

On this International Day Of The World’s , we would like to initiate a journey through the work of the Slow Food Indigenous Peoples Network.

The campaign is about the ongoing efforts of IP to protect their foods and cultural identity from extinction.
These efforts serve as inspiring examples for every food activist worldwide, showcasing the power of local knowledge and community-led initiatives.

We owe Indigenous Peoples respect and support in their hard work to safeguard their gastronomical heritage.

Dear All,
This is with great pleasure that I am sharing with you the first-ever virtual Slow Food Youth Network Africa capacity building forum organized by *SFYN Africa*. This gives a feeling about the SFYN Academy. The Slow Food Youth Network (SFYN) Academy is an educational model that offers an interdisciplinary program around the food chain, tailored to empower and connect young change makers http://www.sfynacademy.com.

Slow Food Youth Network (SFYN) is organizing the SFYN Africa capacity building forum under the theme “Beyond GMO`s” and this will provide an opportunity to dig into topics like GMOs, effects of harmful use of pesticides in Africa and the role young people can play in their fights in Africa. The training is going to be held in June and in 4 different online workshops every Friday and these sessions are to be held on the 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th of June 2023 at 2:00PM EAT and 12:00PM Nigerian Time.

About Slow Food Youth Network

Slow Food Youth Network (SFYN) is a youth led movement that plays a great role in bringing about changes in the field of production and consumption. The network involves a number of passionate and motivated young people with a desire for good, clean and fair food, and with an interest in sustainability issues. SFYN raises awareness among young citizens and consumers to encourage them in making responsible food choices. Since youth are the world’s future leaders, entrepreneurs, farmers and consumers, SFYN wants them to take part in the public debates about current food issues, such as how to feed the world, what to do about food waste and how to produce food as sustainably as possible.
