DESCRIPTION
• These birds have a bright blue body with black and white streaks and small white dots on the back feathers.
• They have a "h***y" helmet on top of their naked heads. The head region is bright with blue, red, and yellow.
• The eyes are red and the beak is short and black.
• There is a band of tiny brown feathers on the back of its head.
• The males and females look very similar and are difficult to distinguish.
• They become sexually mature at 2 years.
• They have a clutch size of 3 to 18 eggs.
• They have a lifespan of 15 years.

DIET
• These birds will feed on seeds, roots, tubers, grubs, rodents, small reptiles and insects.
• They will occasionally feed on vegetation and fruits.

FACTS
• The Vulturine Guineafowl is often referred to as the "royal guineafowl" because it tends to have the most striking appearance.

• They are named for their bald head and neck, which resembles a vulture.

• They are both monomorphic and monochromatic. This means that both sexes have a very similar form and coloration. In other words, it can be difficult to distinguish the sexes.

• These birds are excellent runners and rarely fly, with exception of reaching nocturnal roosting perches.

• The chicks are well-developed when they hatch and can fly within a few days.

These birds roost high in trees at night. Their calls, when disturbed or excited, can be heard over long distances.

• These birds can be quite aggressive towards one another and have been known to fatally injure their own kind if competition for food or prime roosting areas comes into question. Even the chicks have been known to attack one another.

• These birds can survive long periods without water and tend to acquire the majority of their water requirements from the vegetation that they consume.

• The Kalahari Red is a breed of goat originating from South Africa.
• Their name is derived from their red coat and the Kalahari Desert.
• They are generally used in meat production.
• The Kalahari Red goat has adapted to resist their harsh environment, having their red coats as a means of protection against sunlight and naturally built to resist diseases.
• The Kalahari Red goats can be used as a good crossbred for increasing hardiness and carcass size.

SIZE
• The bucks are usually larger than the does.
• Average body weight of the Kalahari Red buck is about 115 kg.

CHARACTERISTICS
• The Kalahari Red is a red, medium- to large-framed lob-eared meat goat. It has a fine head, round horns bent backwards, and a loose, supple skin with folds (prominent in rams). The ewe must be feminine, wedging slightly to the front. The ram is heavier in the head, neck and forequarters.

We always imagine female birds comfortably sitting on their eggs to warm them up. Not the case with Ostriches! 😃 Egg-sitting is the men’s job while the females do the work of mating and hatching the eggs. The male Ostriches will sit on the eggs overnight to keep the eggs from freezing when the temperature drops.
Of course, we now know which species deserves the “Father of the Year” award. 🤭

Macaws are intelligent, social birds.

In the wild, Macaws are programmed to create specific sounds for each family member. A parent will give each chick their own sound and the chick will know how to reproduce these calls.

This natural instinct is what encourages pet birds to reproduce human words and sounds.

Did you know that the oldest parrot at the moment is a whooping 82-year-old grandpa ? 😱

Many parrots have near-human lifespans, a consideration many people don’t truly grasp when seeking a parrot as a companion. Larger species like macaws and cockatoos are known to live for between 35 and 50 years. Tarbu, an African grey in England, lived to the ripe old age of 55. The current oldest parrot is 82-year-old Cookie, a Major Mitchell’s cockatoo (Lophochroa leadbeateri) that resides at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago.

With parrots, we skirt the edges of the human lifespan.

Contrary to popular belief, 😀 Ostriches don’t bury their heads in the sand to avoid predators. In fact, they don't bury their heads at all. The confusion stems from the Ostrich’s nesting behavior, which involves digging shallow holes in the sand, rather than building nests. Because their eggs need to be rotated multiple times each day, Ostriches are often observed with their heads down — so it appears that they are in the sand. Likewise, Ostriches rely on a number of food sources on the ground, so their feeding activity may also be confused for burying their heads.

One of an Ostrich’s more famous characteristics, its long, thick eyelashes are actually an adaptation in response to risks associated with sandstorms. Because Ostriches live in a semi-arid habitat, sand and dust storms are common and can cause damage to animals’ vision and, sometimes, respiratory systems. The Ostrich’s eyelashes can help limit this damage.

Like most other birds, parrots have four toes per foot. But instead of the usual three-in-front-one-behind arrangement, parrot toes are configured for maximum grip: two in front and two behind, like two pairs of opposable thumbs. Combined with beaks that can crack even the world’s toughest nuts, their unique feet make them formidable eaters, not to mention dexterous climbers.

ANSWER: Ostriches can lay one every other day until they have a clutch of 6 to 8 eggs. The eggs each weigh 3 to 5 pounds. That’s about as much as 12 chicken eggs.
